Fan worms (Sabellidae) possess paired modified prostomial structures at the base of the radiolar crown, dorso‐lateral to the mouth, called dorsal lips. The dorsal lips are involved in the sorting of particles collected by the radiolar crown. The range of variation in the morphology of dorsal lips is extensive, and probably this is not only due to adaptations to different environments and feeding preferences but also due to phylogenetic constraints. In this study, we describe and compare the morphology of dorsal lips in a range of sabellid taxa based on histological cross‐sections of these structures, and compare our data and terminology with those of previous studies. Dorsal lips are maintained erect in most taxa by a modified radiole fused to them known as dorsal radiolar appendage. We suggest that dorsal radiolar appendages with an internal supporting axis (cellular or acellular) and probably also the ventral lips are synapomorphies of the family. J. Photosensitizers are common in nature and play diverse roles as defense compounds and pathogenicity determinants and as important molecules in many biological processes. Toxoflavin, a photosensitizer produced by Burkholderia glumae, has been implicated as an essential virulence factor causing bacterial rice grain rot. Toxoflavin produces superoxide and H2O2 during redox cycles under oxygen and light, and these reactive oxygen species cause phytotoxic effects. To utilize toxoflavin as a selection agent in plant transformation, we identified a gene, tflA, which encodes a toxoflavin‐degrading enzyme in the Paenibacillus polymyxa JH2 strain. TflA was estimated as 24.56 kDa in size based on the amino acid sequence and is similar to a ring‐cleavage extradiol dioxygenase in the Exiguobacterium sp. 255‐15; however, unlike other extradiol dioxygenases, Mn2+and dithiothreitol were required for toxoflavin degradation by TflA. Here, our results suggested toxoflavin is a photosensitizer and its degradation by TflA serves as a light‐dependent selection marker system in diverse plant species. We examined the efficiencies of two different plant selection systems, toxoflavin/tflA and hygromycin/hygromycin phosphotransferase (hpt) in both rice and Arabidopsis. The toxoflavin/tflA selection was more remarkable than hygromycin/hpt selection in the high‐density screening of transgenic Arabidopsis seeds. Based on these results, we propose the toxoflavin/tflA selection system, which is based on the degradation of the photosensitizer, provides a new robust nonantibiotic selection marker system for diverse plants. 相似文献

The present study was aimed to determine whether there is an altered role of local nitric oxide (NO) and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) systems in the kidney in association with the angiotensin (Ang) II-induced hypertension. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. Ang II (100 ng·min?1·kg?1) was infused through entire time course. Thirteenth day after beginning the regimen, kidneys were taken. The protein expression of NO synthase (NOS) and nitrotyrosine was determined by semiquantitative immunoblotting. The mRNA expression of components of ANP system was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The activities of soluble and particulate guanylyl cyclases were determined by the amount of cGMP generated in responses to sodium nitroprusside and ANP, respectively. There developed hypertension and decreased creatinine clearance in the experimental group. The protein expression of eNOS, nNOS and nitrotyrosine was increased in the cortex, while that of iNOS remained unaltered. The urinary excretion of NO increased in Ang II-induced hypertensive rats. The catalytic activity of soluble guanylyl cyclase was blunted in the glomerulus in Ang II-induced hypertensive rats. The mRNA expression of ANP was increased in Ang II-induced hypertensive rats. Neither the expression of NPR-A nor that of NPR-C was changed. The protein expression of neutral endopeptidase was decreased and the activity of particulate guanylyl cyclase was blunted in the glomerulus and papilla in Ang II-induced hypertensive rats. In conclusion, the synthesis of NO and ANP was increased in the kidney of Ang II-induced hypertension, while stimulated cGMP response was blunted. These results suggest desensitization of guanylyl cyclase in the kidney of Ang II-induced hypertensive rats, which may contribute to the associated renal vasoconstriction and hypertension. 相似文献

Rechargeable lithium–oxygen batteries (LOBs) are considered to be one of the most promising energy storage systems. However, the use of reactive lithium (Li) metal and the formation of Li dendrites during battery operation would lead to serious safety concerns, especially when flammable liquid electrolytes are utilized. Herein, superior metal–organic framework (MOF) glass-based solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) is developed for stable all-solid-state LOBs (SSLOBs). These non-flammable and boundary-free MOF glass SSEs are capable of suppressing the dendrite growth and exhibiting long-term Li stripping/plating stability, contributing to superior Li+ conductivity (5 × 10−4 S cm−1 at 20 °C), high Li+ transference number (0.86), and good electrochemical stability. It is discovered that discharge product deposition behavior in the solid-solid interface can be well regulated by the ion/electron mixed conducted cathode fabricated with MOF glass SSEs and electronic conductive polymers. As a result, the SSLOBs can be stably recharged for 400 cycles with a low polarization gap and deliver a high capacity of 13552 mAh g−1. The development of this proposed MOF glass displays great application potential in energy storage systems with good safety and high energy density. 相似文献
