This paper presents some elementary principles regarding constraints on movements, which may be useful in modeling and interpreting motor control strategies for skilled movements. Movements which are optimum with respect to various objectives, or “costs”, are analyzed and compared. The specific costs considered are related to movement time, distance, peak velocity, energy, peak acceleration, and rate of change of acceleration (jerk). The velocity patterns for the various minimum cost movements are compared with each other and with some skilled movement patterns. The concept of performance trade-offs between competing objectives is used to interpret the distance-time relationships observed in skilled movements. Examples of arm movements during violin bowing and jaw movements during speech are used to show how skilled movements are influenced by considerations of physical economy, or “ease”, of movement. Minimum-cost solutions for the various costs, which include the effect of frictional forces, are given in Appendices.  相似文献

Incubating MA-10 Leydig tumor cells with sodium oleate led to the accumulation of triglyceride within the cells. Triglycerides were deposited in a time- and dose-dependent fashion. Cellular triglyceride promoted storage of cholesteryl ester. As much cholesteryl ester was stored in oleate-treated cells as in cells treated with saturating concentrations of low density lipoprotein. Addition of both oleate and low density lipoprotein resulted in additive accumulation of cholesteryl esters. Cholesteryl esters in cells loaded with triglyceride by oleate treatment were mobilized in response to dibutyryl-cAMP to an extent similar to that in cells containing low triglyceride concentrations. Dibutyryl-cAMP stimulated cholesteryl ester mobilization under all conditions, and stimulated triglyceride mobilization when adequate fatty acid acceptors were available. The results indicate that while triglyceride accumulation in MA-10 cells promoted cholesteryl ester deposition, it did not impair cAMP-dependent cholesteryl ester hydrolysis or steroid hormone production.  相似文献

Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) bound specifically (P less than 0.001) to ampullary and isthmic tissue on Day 2 and Day 5 after ovulation. No significant differences (P greater than 0.8) were detected between Day 2 and Day 5 in the specific binding of ampullary or isthmic tissue. Significantly more (P less than 0.05) PGE2 bound specifically to ampullary versus isthmic tissue on both days. Detection of PGE2-specific binding in the oviductal isthmus on Day 2 and Day 5 indicates that the oviduct is responsive to PGE2 when it is capable of transporting equine embryos.  相似文献

Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) secreted by Day-6, Day-7, Day-8 and Day-9 equine embryos (ovulation = Day 0) during in vitro incubation was measured by radioimmunoassay. Embryonic PGE2 secretion (ng/embryo/24 hr) was detectable on Day 6 (0.27±0.39), tended to increase (P <0.1) on Day 7 (0.57±0.88), and increased significantly (P <0.05) on Day 8 (2.23±0.86) and Day 9 (4.13±0.71). Embryo diameter at the start of the incubation period was linearly correlated (P <0.01) to embryonic PGE2 secretion.  相似文献

Endothelial cells are attractive targets for gene transfer because of their immediate contact with the bloodstream, and, therefore, they might serve as vehicles for therapeutic drug delivery. Recently, we and others reported that endothelial cells of animal origin efficiently express both secretory and nonsecretory recombinant proteins. We now show that human endothelial cells are also capable of expressing a recombinant gene following transduction with retroviral vectors. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were transduced with either the N2 or the SAX vector. Following selection with G418, cells transduced by both vectors were found to express neophosphotransferase activity, the product of the neomycin resistance gene. The fact that a recombinant gene can be readily inserted and efficiently expressed into human endothelial cells suggests that these cells may be able to serve a role in human gene therapy.  相似文献

A new species,Nyssa talamancana, with fruits larger than those of any other, either living or fossil, is described from Costa Rica and Panama. In size, number of germination valves, and surface-sculpturing, its endocarps resemble those of the fossil assemblage more than those of the other living species. The occurrence of this distinctive new member of a definitely Laurasian family, in association with other endemic or nearly endemic Laurasian taxa, at wet mid-elevations lends credence to the idea that these forests harbor remnants of the really ancient flora of southern Central America.  相似文献

Mitochondrial uncoupling protein, a polytopic integral protein of the inner membrane, is initially made in the cytoplasm as a soluble polypeptide (307 amino acids) lacking a cleavable targeting (signal) peptide. Earlier studies (Liu, X., Bell, A. W., Freeman, K. B., and Shore, G. C. (1988) J. Cell Biol. 107, 503-509) identified internal regions of the molecule that are critical for targeting and membrane insertion. Here, we demonstrate that the ability of uncoupling protein to insert into the inner membrane is abrogated when the molecule is fused behind the matrix-targeting signal of preornithine carbamyltransferase; the hybrid protein was imported across the inner membrane and deposited in the matrix where it was processed. In this context, however, the processed product remained in the matrix and was incapable of inserting into the inner membrane.  相似文献
