Purpose

Erectile dysfunction is one of the most frequent complications in diabetes and also the most often under diagnosed. We report the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in 200 diabetic patients.

Patients and methods

Prevalence was estimated by the French version of the International Index of Erectile Function 5 (IIEF5).

Results

146 patients were included. Erectile dysfunction concerned 74 patients; a severe form was observed in 21.6%, a moderate in 37.8% and a mild one in 40.6%. The patients who presented erectile dysfunction were significantly older and displayed longer duration of diabetes.

Conclusion

Erectile dysfunction is frequent and severe among diabetic patients. The medical staff plays an essential role to initiate early diagnosis, promote psychological support and provide medication, when possible.  相似文献

The interest of the scientific community in biological soil crusts has grown exponentially over the last decades. One of the scientific research interests is the study of the effect of these crusts on plant establishment. Findings in this topic have been controversial, and some differences were attributed to crust types. Biological soil crusts dominated by lichens are common components of Stipa tenacissima steppes in arid and semi‐arid environments of the southern Mediterranean. In the current study, we conducted growth chamber experiments to investigate the differential effects of two lichen species with continuous crustose thalli (Diploschistes diacapsis) and with squamulose semicontinuous thalli (Fulgensia bracteata) on seed germination, root penetration, shoot emergence and seed viability of the tussock grass species S. tenacissima. Our results showed that under laboratory conditions, two distinct lichen species had significantly different effects on the establishment of S. tenacissima. Our findings clearly demonstrated that D. diacapsis significantly decreased germination, root penetration and shoot emergence of S. tenacissima compared to F. bracteata. This can be related to differences in morphological and physiological characteristics between crustose and squamulose lichens. Overall, we suggest that D. diacapsis and crustose lichens generally can act as natural barrier to the establishment of S. tenacissima.  相似文献

This study characterises the bacteria associated with a marine hatchery in Tunisian coastal marine waters. Presumptive vibrios (TCBS agar) and heterotrophic aerobic microflora (CFU) were studied at different stages within the hatchery: seawater, batches of algal cultures, rotifers andArtemia culture tanks. The bacterial strains were isolated on TCBS Agar plates and described using different bacteriological tests (standardised micromethods “API 20 E Strips”, exoenzymes production, growth at different temperatures, pH and salinity, vibriostatic agent O/129 and antibiotics susceptibility). Two dominant genera of bacteria were found (Vibrio andAeromonas) associated with some strains of thePseudomonadaceae family.Vibrio alginolyticus was the dominant bacteria (75% of total isolates) found in rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis) andArtemia cultures (Artemia salina). In larvae rearing tanks, an increase ofVibrionaceae was noted after larvae were fed withArtemia. Most of the studied bacteria used the skin mucus ofSparus aurata larvae as their sole source of carbon. All theV. alginolyticus strains were β-haemolytic, hydrolyse the DNA and were susceptible to several tested antibiotics.  相似文献

In this work, essential oils extracted from roots and aerial parts of Inula graveolens by hydrodistillation and their fractions obtained by chromatographic simplification were first investigated for their chemical composition by GC/MS and then evaluated for the first time for their repellency and contact toxicity properties against Tribolium castaneumadults. Twenty-eight compounds were identified in roots essential oil (REO), which accounted for 97.9 % of the total oil composition, with modhephen-8-β-ol (24.7 %), cis-arteannuic alcohol (14.8 %), neryl isovalerate (10.6 %) and thymol isobutyrate (8.5 %) as major constituents. Twenty-two compounds were found in the essential oil from aerial parts (APEO), which accounted for 93.9 % of the total oil, with borneol (28.8 %), caryophylla-4(14),8(15)-dien-6-ol (11.5 %), caryophyllene oxide (10.9 %), τ-cadinol (10.5 %) and bornyl acetate (9.4 %) as main compounds.REO and APEO displayed stronger repellency after 2 h of exposure (80.0 and 90.0 %, respectively) against T. castaneum at the concentration of 0.12 μL/cm2. After fractionation, fractions R4 and R5 exhibited greater effects (83.3 % and 93.3 %, respectively) than the roots essential oil. Furthermore, the fractions AP2 and AP3 showed higher repellency (93.3 and 96.6 %, respectively) than the aerial parts oil. The LD50 values of oils from roots and aerial parts topically applied were 7.44 % and 4.88 %, respectively. Results from contact toxicity assay showed that fraction R4 was more effective than the roots oil with LD50 value of 6.65 %. These results suggests that essential oils of roots and aerial parts from I. graveolens may be explored as potential natural repellent and contact insecticides against T. castaneum in stored products.  相似文献

Henophyton deserti, Calligonum polygonoides, Ephedra alata and Anthyllis henoniana may be suitable Saharan species for the rehabilitation of degraded lands. In this context, the phenology, excavation of root systems and seedling establishment of these species were investigated in the southern Tunisia. Our data suggest that phenological differences between the studied species may depend on the rooting depth. The mean seedling emergence rate was 73% in H. deserti, 66% in A. henoniana, 60% in C. polygonoides and 50% in E. alata. Statistical analyses of seedling establishment showed a highly significant difference among the four species in both seasons (= 1595.15, < 0.0001), species (= 781.57, P < 0.0001) and species/season interaction (= 61.84, P < 0.0001). After 3 years, seedling mortality ranged from 73% to 89%. Seedling mortality reached a maximum in the summer of the first year of study (< 0.001). This study provided further understanding of the ecological tolerance, adaptive strategy and the low density of these species in nature. Henophyton deserti appears to be better adapted to the harsh desert environment. These findings explain the very high density observed in the Sahara compared with other studied species. This species has therefore proven to be an excellent candidate for the ecological restoration of degraded desert rangelands and can be introduced successfully in to rehabilitation programmes.  相似文献

Several plant essential oils have been used against diverse insect pests since, unlike conventional pesticides, they pose almost no risk to humans and the environment. For this reason, the essential oil (EO) isolated from the fresh leaves of Crithmum maritimum L. and its fractions (F1–F5) obtained by chromatographic simplification were investigated for their chemical profile, as well as for their toxicity and repellency effects against Tribolium castaneum (Herbst ) adults. The analysis by GC/MS allowed the identification of 92.8–99.1 % of the compositions of the total oil (EO) and of its fractions (F1–F5). The EO and its fractions F3–F5 were characterized by the presence of a high amount of phenylpropanoids (94.4, 94.8, 93.6, and 88.7 %, respectively): in all the samples, dill apiole was the most abundant component (EO: 94.1 %, F3: 94.6 %, F4: 93.4 %, and F5: 83.3 %). In addition, the repellency assay results showed that the volatile fraction F5 and the complete EO exhibited a higher repellency towards T. castaneum (97 % and 93 %, respectively) after 2 h of exposure at the dose of 0.04 μL/cm2. The median lethal dose of the topical application of the EO was 9 %. Furthermore, the fraction F1 possessed interesting contact toxicity against T. castaneum (80 % of mortality) at the concentration of 10 %. These results suggested that the essential oil of C. maritimum leaves might be used as an alternative to synthetic insecticides in order to prevent insects from damaging the stored products.  相似文献

In seawater, enteric bacteria evolve toward a stressed state that is difficult to identify because of major alterations of their phenotype. In this study, we incubated four reference strains of S. enterica serovar Typhimurium in seawater microcosms for 10 months and studied the modifications of their main phenotypic characters. All of the strains lost some key characters used for traditional identification of the Salmonella genus. They became able to produce acetoin, and tryptophane deaminase activity became positive, but they lost the capacity to use rhamnose. We were able to show some modifications of the level of enzymatic profile as well as in their antibiotic susceptibility. The atypical cells of S. enterica serovar Typhimurium were identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods using the internal transcribed spacer region, and they were confirmed by multiplex PCR after the simultaneous amplification of the phoP, Hin, and H-li genes.  相似文献

Polyphenols are bioactive molecules exhibiting a lot of scientific attention due to their multiple biological activities. This study compared phenolic contents and antioxidant activity in Cynara cardunculus L. organs and focus on leaf phenolic compounds identification by RP-HPLC and their antibacterial activity. The analyzed organs exhibited different total polyphenol contents (7-14.8 mg GAE g(-1) DW). Leaf and seed phenolic contents were similar and two times higher than those in flowers. The same tendency was observed for the amount of flavonoids and tannins. However, seed extracts displayed the highest DPPH. scavenging ability with the lowest IC50 value (23 microg ml(-1)), followed by leaves and flowers (over 50 microg ml(-1)). In contrast, leaves showed the highest capacity to quench superoxide (IC50: 1 microg ml(-1)) as compared to seeds (6 microg ml(-1)). In addition, cardoon leaves were efficient to inhibit growth of pathogenic bacteria mainly against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The identification of phenolic compounds from leaves revealed that syringic and trans-cinnamic acids were the major molecules.  相似文献
