ABSTRACT

Environmental risk is a measure of potential threats to the environment and combines the probability that events will cause or lead to degradation of the environment and the severity of that degradation. Evaluation of environmental risk factors requires linguistic terms to be used rather than exact numerical assignments. The fuzzy set theory provides a useful tool for converting linguistic terms into numerical evaluations. In this article, we will try to select the best location for the Faculty of Management of the Istanbul Technical University taking care of the predetermined environmental criteria by using fuzzy TOPSIS. The decision matrix is composed of linguistic evaluations for the alternatives with respect to the environmental risk criteria. The Macka Campus area has been selected after the multicriteria evaluation. A sensitivity analysis is also realized to see if the minor changes in criteria weights cause any change in the ranking of alternatives. Unless the importance of the criteria rock or soil structure, remoteness to health facilities, transportation availability, and transportation costs is changed to be from low to extremely low importance, the Macka Campus is still the selected alternative.  相似文献

A study was carried out to assess the protective effects of exogenously applied nitric oxide (NO) in the form of its donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) to strawberry seedlings (Fragaria × ananassa cv. Camarosa) grown under iron deficiency (ID), salinity stress or combination of both. The experimental design contained control, 0.1 mM FeSO4 (ID, Fe deficiency); 50 mM NaCl (S, Salinity) and ID + S. Plants were sprayed with 0.1 mM SNP or 0.1 mM sodium ferrocyanide, an analogue of SNP containing no NO. The deleterious effects of ID + S treatments on plant fresh and dry matters, total chlorophyll and chlorophyll fluorescence were more striking than those caused by the ID or S treatment alone. Furthermore, combination of salinity and iron stress exacerbated electrolyte leakage (EL) and the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in plant leaves compared to those in plants grown with either of the single stresses. NO treatment effectively reduced EL, MDA and H2O2 in plants grown under stress conditions applied singly or in combination. Salt stress alone and with ID reduced the superoxide dismutase (EC1.15.1.1) and catalase (EC 1.11.1.6) activities but increased that of POD (EC 1.17.1.7). Exogenously applied NO led to significant changes in antioxidant enzyme activities in either ID or S than those by ID+S. Overall, exogenously applied NO was more effective in mitigating the stress‐induced adverse effects on the strawberry plants exposed to a single stress than those due to the combination of both stresses.  相似文献

The activity of linezolid (Pfizer, USA) was tested by broth microdilution against 53 clinical isolates of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), including the common disease producing species Mycobacterium avium, M. intracellulare, M. fortuitum, M. chelonae and M. abscessus, obtained from western Turkey. The isolates of M. abscessus and M. intracellulare were the least susceptible, M. mucogenicum, M. gordonae and M. avium were the most susceptible to linezolid of the common species of NTM. Linezolid showed a variable sensitivity in all strains; therefore, each species and strain must be individually evaluated, and it is always advisable to perform in vitro sensitivity tests before using the drug for human therapy.  相似文献

Ischemia-reperfusion-induced (I/R) renal damage is a pathogenic process that starts with ischemia, then progresses through oxidative stress and inflammation. Tocilizumab (TCZ), a recombinant human monoclonal antibody produced against the IL-6 receptor, will be tested against renal I/R injury. TCZ is known to lower the levels of proinflammatory cytokines and oxidant mediators while raising the amounts of antioxidant molecules. Our purpose is to evaluate the biochemical and histological effects of TCZ against I/R-induced oxido-inflammatory kidney damage and dysfunction in rats. Animals were divided into 3 groups as renal I/R (RIR), I/R+ TCZ (IRT), and healthy group (HG). TCZ was administered at a dose of 8 mg/kg to the IRT group (n=6) of the animals, and distilled water as a solvent was administered intraperitoneally (ip) to the RIR (n=6) and HG (n=6) groups. Then, two hours of ischemia and six hours of reperfusion were applied to the left kidneys of IRT and RIR animals. TCZ significantly inhibited the increase in the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), nuclear kappa B (NF-κB), tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 1-β (IL-1β), IL-6, creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and decrease in total glutathione (tGSH) with I/R in renal tissue. TCZ also attenuated severe histopathological damage due to I/R in renal tissue. TCZ protected renal tissue from I/R-induced oxidative and inflammatory damage. These results indicate that TCZ may be useful in the treatment of renal I/R injury.  相似文献

An in vitro propagation protocol has been developed from mature trees of Pittosporum napaulensis. The best bud proliferation (83.1%), shoot number (21 axillary shoots/ explant) and shoot length (5.5 cm) was achieved in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 5.0 μM N−6 benzyladenine and 0.1 μM α- naphthalene acetic acid. Of the three cytokinins tested (N−6 benzyladenine, kinetin and thidiazuron), N−6 benzyladenine proved to be the best for shoot induction. Shoot regeneration potential varied among genotypes. Regenerated shoots rooted after 48 hours treatment on half-strength MS liquid medium supplemented with 20 μM indole-3-butyric acid. Rooted shoots transferred to 120 g (w/v) soilrite + sand + soil (1:1:1) mixture showed 70% survival. Twenty-one plantlets are growing well in green house conditions. In the study, the effects of relatively high single-dose of Ochratoxin A (OTA) and the antioxidant effects of Melatonin (Mel) and Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) on OTA-induced oxidative damages in rats were investigated. A total of 28 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups of 7 rats each: Control, OTA, Mel+OTA and CoQ10+OTA groups. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the plasma and glutathione (GSH) levels in whole blood were measured; kidneys (for histological inspection and for apoptosis detection by TUNEL method) and bone marrow samples (for chromosome aberration and mitotic index) were taken. The rats in the OTA group showed limited degeneration of tubular cells. In some tubules karyomegaly, desquamated cells and vacuolization were observed by light microscopy. Mel and CoQ10 treatment significantly reduced the severity of the lesions. MDA levels of the OTA group were significantly higher than the control, OTA+Mel and OTA+CoQ10 groups, while GSH levels were significantly lower than the control, OTA+Mel and OTA+CoQ10 groups. Higher incidences of apoptotic bodies were observed in the kidneys of the OTA group although OTA administration did not significantly change the incidence of apoptotic bodies when compared to the control and antioxidant administrated groups. Although the percentage of the mitotic index was lowest in the OTA group, no statistical difference was found among the groups. Additionally, OTA had no numerical and structural significant effects on chromosomes. It was observed that single-dose OTA administration caused oxidative damages in rat kidney and Mel or CoQ10 treatment appeared to ameliorate the OTA-induced tissue injuries.  相似文献
