The relationship between taxonomic and functional diversity indices has been used to better describe and understand the structure of biological communities. Functional diversity is expected to have an asymptotic relationship with species richness because at some point, the addition of new species will increase some of the already established functional groups (functional redundancy). However, the asymptotic relationship may not be reached in intermediately disturbed systems once many intolerant species that would have played a redundant role or even represented some functional groups have been lost. This study aimed to address such a relationship (taxonomic and functional indices) and to evaluate the functional redundancy in intermediately disturbed streams in the Atlantic Rainforest domain. We expected a positive linear relationship between taxonomic and functional diversity; however, we did not expect to find an asymptotic relationship between richness and functional diversity because of the loss of many intolerant species caused by anthropogenic uses. The taxonomic diversity indices were Species Richness (SR) and Simpson’s Diversity (SD), while the functional diversity indices were the Functional Richness (FRic) and Functional Dispersion (FDisp). The two taxonomic and two functional diversity indices showed a significant positive relationship that never reached an asymptote, suggesting low functional redundancy in the fish communities. Our results indicate that care is needed in the management of the studied streams because assemblies with low functional redundancy are more susceptible to loss of functions in the case of species loss.  相似文献

Soybean is one of most consumed and produced grains in the world, and Anticarsia gemmatalis is a pest that causes great damage to this crop due to severe defoliation during its larval phase. Plants have mechanisms that lead to the inhibition of proteases in the intestine of these herbivores, hampering their development. Understanding this complex protease inhibitor is important for pest control. The objective of this study was to evaluate the enzymatic profiles of the intestinal proteases of the soybean caterpillar at different instars. For this, the proteolytic profile of the gut in the third, fourth, and fifth instars were analyzed. Irreversible inhibitors of proteases were separately incubated with A. gemmatalis enzyme extracts at the third, fourth, and fifth instar to assess the contribution of these proteases to total proteolytic activity. The enzymatic extracts were also evaluated with specific substrates to confirm changes in the specific activities of trypsin-like, chymotrypsin-like, and cysteine proteases at different instars. The results showed that the protease profile of A. gemmatalis gut changes throughout its larval development. The activity of cysteine proteases was more intense in the first instar. On the contrary, the serine proteases showed major activities in the late stages of the larval phase. Zymogram analysis and protein identification by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry indicated serine protease as the main protease class expressed in the fifth instar. These results may shift the focus from the rational development of the protease inhibitor to A. gemmatalis and other Lepidoptera, as the expression of major proteases is not constant.  相似文献

Molecular phylogeny endorses the relationship between carnivorous and filter‐feeding tunicates (Tunicata, Ascidiacea).—Zoologica Scripta, 40, 603–612. The phylogeny of the tunicates (animals considered the closest relatives to the vertebrates) is not yet completely defined, especially the evolutionary relationships within the class. Molecular studies do not include particular benthic deep‐sea species that show morphological changes in the evolution from filter feeding into a carnivorous‐feeding habit. According only to morphological features, these animals are considered as a part of the Class Ascidiacea (Family Hexacrobylidae), but also as a different class, Sorberacea, belonging to the Phylum Tunicata. In this study, we present a phylogenetic analysis based on 18S rDNA sequences, which clearly included these animals in Ascidiacea but in the Family Molgulidae, faster‐evolving ascidians with a high evolution rate. This finding supports the idea that carnivory in Molgulidae represents a more recent adaptation to life in the ocean deep bottoms, where organisms have to adapt themselves to a less plentiful particulate organic carbon supply. Based on molecular and morphological evidence, we propose the following new synonymy: Hexacrobylidae Seeliger 1906 = Molgulidae Lacaze‐Duthiers, 1877 .  相似文献

La encefalopatía hipóxico-isquémica es una causa frecuente e importante de daño neurológico en recién nacidos a término y prematuros. Un evento centinela de esta condición es la vasa previa, específicamente cuando existe anormalidad de la placenta como la inserción “velamentosa” del cordón umbilical. Algunos reportes evidencian la asociación entre estas dos condiciones, pero son escasos los que dan cuenta del proceso de recuperación y del pronóstico neurológico de los niños afectados por ellas.Se presenta el caso de un paciente, con antecedentes de inserción “velamentosa” del cordón umbilical y encefalopatía hipóxico-isquémica, que recibió hipotermia terapéutica (cool cap). Se describe su proceso de rehabilitación neurológica y se calculó el porcentaje de probabilidad de presentar esta condición frente a la población sin estos factores. El niño tenía cinco años y el puntaje en su prueba de Apgar fue de 0 al minuto y de 2 a los 15 minutos. Desarrolló encefalopatía hipóxico-isquémica grave secundaria a una inserción “velamentosa” del cordón umbilical sin diagnóstico prenatal, con gran compromiso neurológico y multisistémico inicial. El proceso de recuperación incluyó el manejo inicial multidisciplinario en la unidad de cuidados intensivos neonatales y el inicio temprano de habilitación neurológica.Hoy el niño está escolarizado y en terapia integral, no presenta deficiencias motoras ni sensoriales en el examen físico, aunque la prueba neuropsicológica sugiere un riesgo de trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad. Habitualmente, los niños con encefalopatía hipóxico-isquémica grave presentan discapacidad por deficiencias motoras, cognitivas o conductuales. El haber recibido hipotermia terapéutica y un manejo estructurado de rehabilitación redujo en gran medida las deficiencias esperadas y ha promovido un satisfactorio desarrollo físico y neurológico.Palabras clave: cordón umbilical, hipoxia-isquemia encefálica, hipotermia inducida, rehabilitación neurológica  相似文献

Laboratory and field studies on growth of Sarcothalia crispata, whichis one of the most important carrageenophytes of Chile, were made in toassess its viability and growth in a system of suspended culture. Invitro experiments on the survival of the germlings and on the effect oftemperature and irradiance on its growth allowed to determine the besttemperature and irradiance for seeding polypropylene culture ropes inindoors conditions. The growth of plants developed on ropes at threedepths in Coliumo Bay (central Chile) supports the idea that it is feasiblebiologically to manage the resource via aquaculture. Fouling and epiphyteswere the main problem at the experimental site. The results suggest thatmaintaining the cultures in deeper water during summer could minimize thisproblem.  相似文献
