Background
The aetiology of central nervous system lesions observed in cerebral cyclosporine neurotoxicity remains controversial.Case presentation
We report a 48-year-old woman with a non-severe aplastic anaemia who presented with stroke-like episodes while on cyclosporine treatment.Transcranial Doppler ultrasound revealed severely elevated flow velocities in several cerebral vessels, consistent with vasospasm. Immediately after reducing the cyclosporine dose, the stroke-like episodes disappeared. Only after cyclosporine withdrawal the transcranial Doppler ultrasound abnormalities fully resolved.Conclusions
This case demonstrates a significant role of vasospasm in the pathway of cyclosporine-induced neurotoxicity. Transcranial Doppler ultrasound is an effective tool for the diagnosis and follow-up of cyclosporine-induced vasospasm.93.

We wished to determine the nature of differences in epidermalcell numbers and dimensions between leaves of different lengthin mutants of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. Himalaya).Three comparisons were made: leaf one (L1)vs. leaf four (L4);wild typevs. nine dwarf mutants and wild typevs. a slender mutant.L1 was shorter than L4, and for most lines this was associatedwith a change in epidermal cell number for the blade, and inboth cell number and length for the sheath. Compared to wildtype, the smaller leaves of dwarf plants generally had shorterand fewer cells in both blade and sheath. The blade of slenderplants was the same length (L1) or longer (L4) than wild type,while the sheath was longer than that of wild type for bothL1 and L4. Slender plants had longer but fewer cells than thewild type along the blade of L1, and shorter but more cellsfor the blade of L4. In the sheath, slender plants had longerand more (L1) or fewer (L4) cells than did the wild type. ForL1, variation in blade width amongst the barley lines was associatedwith a change in file width and file number. For L4, blade widthvaried only with file number, except for slender plants wherenarrow blades were associated with reduced file width. Hencethere was no consistent correlation between changes in cellsize or cell (or file) number with changes in leaf length orwidth. Abstract A key is provided to the eight species of Anatella recorded in Britain, including three species newly recorded ( A.dampfi Landrock; A.gibba Winnertz; A.lenis Dziedzicki). A further six species are newly recorded from Britain ( Exechia sororcula Lackschewitz; Exechiopsis dumitrescae (Burghele-Balacesco); Allodia ( Brachycampta ) angulata Lundström; Mycetophila autumnalis Lundström; M.lubomirskii Dziedzicki; M.lunata Meigen); these and several other species are redescribed. The following nomenclatural changes are proposed. Exechia bicincta (Staeger) (= spinosa Bukowski, syn.n.); Mycetophila confusa Dziedzicki (= affluctata Edwards, syn.n.); Mycetophila dziedzickii nom.n. (= obscura Dziedzicki nec Walker). Five cDNA clones were isolated from barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) that encoded mRNAs related to xyloglucan endotransglycosylase (XET). One of the clones encoded a protein with XET activity in vitro. Sequence comparisons revealed five families of XET-related sequences, one of which (containing two of the barley genes) was novel. Hybridization studies using clone-specific probes indicated that the corresponding genes were represented once, or possibly twice, in the barley genome. Treatment of dwarf mutants with gibberellic acid (GA3), or homozygosity at the ‘slender’ (sln1) locus, resulted in a 2.5-fold (approximately) stimulation of blade elongation rate. Three of the five clones detected mRNAs that were maximally expressed towards the base of the blade, and present in greater quantities in GA3-treated or slender seedlings. The remaining two clones detected mRNAs that were maximally expressed in the middle of the blade. Relative elemental growth rate (REGR) profiles of leaves growing with or without GA3 treatment revealed similar maximal REGR values despite a 2.5-fold difference in leaf elongation rate. Segments of GA3-treated leaves attained their maximal REGR values more rapidly, this being associated with enhanced expression of the three ‘basal’ XET-related mRNAs. Highest XET activities were detected in the base of the elongation zone, and in GA3-treated seedlings a second activity peak was observed near the distal end of the elongation zone. We conclude that there are likely to be several XET isoenzymes with different expression patterns, and identify those XET-related proteins potentially involved in leaf elongation. 相似文献
