The antioxidant activity of saliva has been investigated in 28 apparently healthy individuals and seven dental patients with periodontal disease. The results show that the major aqueous antioxidant component of whole saliva is uric acid, with lesser contributions from ascorbic acid and albumin. All are present at lower concentrations than those found in the plasma water. The total antioxidant activity (TAA) of saliva correlates (r2 = 0.972) with the concentration of uric acid, which contributes more than 70% of the TAA. Stimulation of salivary flow is associated with increased production of antioxidants. The antioxidant potential of saliva does not appear to be compromised in patients with periodontal disease but this may relate to the antioxidant flow from the gingival crevicular fluid.  相似文献

Diets of individuals were supplemented with tomatoes, either cooked or as tomato pureé in order to compare uptake of lycopene from intact and homogenized fruit tissue matrices. Following a diet containing cooked tomatoes over three consecutive 7-day periods, little change in the carotenoid levels in plasma lipoproteins occurred. In contrast, a diet supplemented with concentrated tomato pureé, over a 2 week period, caused a significant (p < 0.05) increase in lycopene levels in plasma, showing that the lycopene within intact cells is less bioavailable than that from processed tissue. The isomeric composition of plasma lycopene was significantly different to that of the ingested pureé. A number of cis-isomers (predominantly 5-cis, 13-cis and 9-cis-) were detected in plasma, that are not present in the lycopene from pureé. The significance of the increase in lycopene following dietary supplementation with respect to bioavailability and the causes of isomerization are discussed.  相似文献

There is considerable interest in the bioavailability of carotenoids from the diet and their bioactivity in vivo. Little is known, however, of the preabsorption events in the gastric lumen on the breakdown or isomerisation of dietary carotenoids. In this study the effects of the acidic environment found in the gastric milieu on lycopene have been investigated. The results show that under these conditions all-trans-lycopene is isomerised to cis-isomers, which may be implicated in enhanced absorption from the small intestine. Furthermore the pH, as well as the food matrix, seems to have an influence on the level of isomerisation of this carotenoid.  相似文献

We have studied the absorption and metabolism of resveratrol in the jejunum in an isolated rat small intestine model. Only small amounts of resveratrol were absorbed across the enterocytes of the jejunum and ileum unmetabolised. The major compound detected on the serosal side was the glucuronide conjugate of resveratrol (96.5% +/- 4.6 of the amount absorbed) indicating the susceptibility of resveratrol to glucuronidation during transfer across the rat jejunum. The presence of the glucuronide was confirmed using HPLC-PDA and nanoES-MS/MS techniques. These findings suggest that resveratrol is most likely to be in the form of a glucuronide conjugate after crossing the small intestine and entering the blood circulation. This will have important implications for the biological functions of resveratrol in vivo.  相似文献

There is considerable interest in the bioavailability of flavonoids and phenolic components of the diet and their bioactivity in vivo. However, little is known of pre-absorption events in the gastric lumen. The effects of the acidic environment, as found in the gastric milieu, on procyanidin oligomers of catechin polyphenols has been investigated. The results show that under these conditions the procyanidin oligomers (trimer to hexamer) are hydrolysed to mixtures of epicatechin monomer and dimer, thus enhancing the potential for their absorption in the small intestine.  相似文献

The comparison was undertaken between the effects of ascorbate versus ascorbate plus iron supplementation on DNA damage. Twenty healthy subjects with initial levels of plasma ascorbate of 67.2 +/- 23.3 micromol/l were randomly assigned to and cycled through one of three supplementation regimes: placebo, 260 mg/d ascorbate, 260 mg/d ascorbate plus 14 mg/d iron for 6 weeks separated by 8-week washout periods. Supplementation did not cause a rise in total oxidative DNA damage measured by GC-MS. However, a significant decrease occurred in levels of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine by ascorbate supplementation and 5-hydroxymethyl uracil by both ascorbate and ascorbate plus iron supplementation, relative to the pre-supplemental levels but not to the placebo group. In addition, levels of 5-hydroxymethyl hydantoin and 5-hydroxy cytosine increased significantly, only relative to pre-supplementation, by ascorbate plus iron treatment. No compelling evidence for a pro-oxidant effect of ascorbate supplementation, in the presence or absence of iron, on DNA base damage was observed.  相似文献

目的:探究尿毒症皮肤瘙瘁患者采取腹膜透析与血液透析治疗的临床效果,并为该病的临床治疗提供经验积累。方法:选取我院肾内科于2005年1月-2012年12月收治的52例尿毒症皮肤瘙痒患者,利用随机数字表法进行分组,分别设为研究组和对照组。其中对照组实施血液透析治疗,而研究组开展腹膜透析治疗。记录两组在治疗前和治疗后第8周末血生化客观指标及皮肤瘙痒程度,并做好对比。结果:两组在治疗前的皮肤瘙痒评分、β2-MG、PTH、p3,BUN、SCr值差异无统计学意义(P〉0.05);治疗后,研究组皮肤瘙瘁评分为(3.4±0.8)分,对照组为(5.8±0.9)分,差异有统计学意义(P〈0.05)。治疗后,研究组β2-MG、PTH及Ps.均低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P〈0.05)。结论:尿毒症皮肤瘙痒患者的主要致敏因子为大中分子,采取腹膜透析能够有效清除大分子物质,进而达到瘙痒程度的有效改善。  相似文献
