In this article, we propose an individual‐based and stochastic modeling approach that is capable of describing the bacterial cell population dynamics during a batch culture. All stochastic nature inherent in intracellular molecular level reactions and cell division processes were considered in a single model framework by embedding a sub‐model describing individual cell's growth kinetics in a discrete event simulation algorithm. The resultant unique feature of the model is that the effects of the stochasticities on the cell population dynamics can be investigated for different substrate‐dependent cell growth kinetics. When Monod kinetics was used as the sub‐model, the stochasticities only slightly affected the cell mass increase and substrate consumption profiles during the batch culture although they were still important in describing the changes of cell population distributions. When Andrews substrate inhibition kinetics was used, however, it was revealed that the overall cell population dynamics could be seriously influenced by the stochasticities. Under a critical initial substrate level, the cell population could proliferate against the substrate inhibition only when the stochasticities were considered. Biotechnol. Hyperlipidaemias are common in obese people, and they increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease (CHD) and atherosclerosis (AS). Previous studies have shown that several drugs can depress serum cholesterol. However, they could cause serious side effects in various clinical settings. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the lipid-lowering effects of polydatin in high-fat/cholesterol (HFC)-fed hamsters. The levels of lipids in hamsters were measured enzymatically before and after the administration of polydatin. Significant differences between HFC and HFC+polydatin were detected for those concentrations. Decreased levels of serum TC, TG and LDL-C and the concentrations of hepatic TG were found. Experimental results also showed that polydatin elevated LDL-C/HDL-C and TC/HDL-C ratios. In concert with other effects, serum cholesterol-lowering effect in hamsters may contribute to the regulation properties attributed to polydatin. 相似文献

A bioreactor packed with chitosan immobilized sulfide-oxidase from Streptomyces species LD048 was developed to treat a liquid stream of sulfide. The inoculation system was composed of glass with a 0.7 L working volume and enzyme activity of 2 mmol S g?1 carrier. The sulfide removal efficiency was almost 100% when the volumetric loading was increased up to 3.9 mmol S L?1 h?1 at a space velocity of 18 h?1. The maximal elimination capacity was 22.1 mmol S L?1 h?1 with a space velocity of 72 h?1. When the aeration was increased from 0.05 to 0.1 L min?1, the average removal efficiency improved from 81% to 94%. A removal efficiency of 90% was obtained after 15 days of operation with a load rate of 8.9 mmol S L?1 h?1 and a space velocity of 14.28 h?1. An operational equation based on the ideal plug flow bioreactor and the Michaelis–Menten model predicted the performance of this bioreactor. 相似文献

Two kinds of chitosans, namely N-acetylated and N-deacetylated chitosan were prepared by the modified processes. They can dissolve in both acid and alkali solution. 13C NMR was used to study the basic solution of chitosan, and XRD, FT-IR and SEM were used to study the structure of N-acetylated and N-deacetylated chitosan. The result from X-ray diffraction showed that a transformation of crystal structure occurred during the N-acetylation or N-deacetylation process with the decrease of crystallinity and expansion of crystal lattices. FT-IR spectra revealed that the intermolecular and intramolecular hydrogen bonds were destroyed by both treatments and a looser structure was observed by the SEM. The lower crystallinity, the decreased intermolecular interactions, the more disordered and looser structure were easy for the permeation of LiOH/urea aqueous solution and coordinated with the breakage of intermolecular and intramolecular hydrogen bond by LiOH at low temperature, the prepared chitosans dissolved in LiOH/urea/H2O mixture. 相似文献

One new merosesquiterpenoid, craterellin D ( 1 ), along with one known analog, craterellin A ( 2 ), and five known ten‐membered macrolides, 3 – 7 , were isolated from a soft coral‐derived Lophiostoma sp. fungus. The absolute configuration of 1 was established based on biogenetic consideration with the co‐isolated analog 2 , whose configuration was determined by modified Mosher's method and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis using CuKα radiation. The absolute configuration of 3 was determined by X‐ray diffraction analysis using CuKα radiation. Two new triterpenoids, 30‐hydroxylup‐20(29)‐ene 3β‐caffeate ( 1 ) and 24‐nor‐friedelan‐6α,10‐dihydroxy‐1,2‐dioxo‐4,7‐dien‐29‐oic acid ( 2 ), together with eight known compounds 3 – 10 , were isolated from the roots of Celastrus stylosus. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first study on the chemical constituents of C. stylosus. The antiproliferative activities of the triterpenoids against six human cancer cell lines (PANC‐1, A549, PC‐3, HepG2, SGC‐7901, and HCCLM3) were evaluated. Compounds 3, 4 , and 10 exhibited comparable activities against PC‐3 and HCCLM3 cell lines as the positive control taxol. 相似文献
