Nuclear genes that appear to encode both cytosolic and plastid isozymes of phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI), an essential glycolytic enzyme, have been isolated from three diploid species of the annual wild flower genus Clarkia (Onagraceae). The genes do not contain introns and are expressed to varying degrees in Escherichia coli when cloned in either Charon 35 phage or pUC plasmid vectors. The PGI proteins synthesized in E. coli form dimers, are catalytically active, and their electrophoretic mobilities are similar to those of appropriate Clarkia PGIs. The nucleotide sequence of a gene encoding a plastid isozyme of C. unguiculata is described. 相似文献

Ten asthmatic children with a history of cough and wheeze after drinking a cola drink performed histamine inhalation tests before and 30 minutes after a drink of Pepsi-Cola, soda water, and water on three separate study days. There was no significant change in baseline peak expiratory flow after any of the three drinks. Sensitivity to histamine was increased after the cola drink (p less than 0.005) but was not significantly different after soda water or water. The detection of change in sensitivity to histamine appears to be a simple and effective method of testing for food sensitivity in asthma. 相似文献

Results presented here and in a previous paper (Tanabe et al. (1979) Biochemistry 18, 3401--3406) indicate that mouse beta-polymerase is a single polypeptide with an apparent molecular weight of 40,000. This polypeptide has now been analyzed by tryptic peptide mapping. Comparison of the results with identical analysis of mouse alpha-polymerase reveals that the tryptic peptides derived from the two enzymes are different. These results indicate that beta-polymerase is neither a subunit of alpha-polymerase nor a proteolytic degradation product of alpha-polymerase. 相似文献

It has been previously reported that fasting may result in decreased lung surfactant production. In order to investigate this relationship and the role of nutrition in lung phospholipid synthesis, 21-day-old rats were exposed for 60 h to one of five dietary regimens: standard rat chow (controls), fasting, pure glucose, pure fat, or pure protein. After the period of fasting there was a 33% decrease in lung protein content, but there was no change in DNA content. Exposure to any of the experimental diets resulted in a decrease in tissue total phospholipid and phosphatidylcholine content per lung, but not per unit lung protein. Similarly lung lavage phospholipid and phosphatidylcholine content was decreased by 25% after fasting when expressed per lung or per unit DNA, but not per unit protein. Pulmonary cholinephosphotransferase (EC 2.7.8.2) activity was decreased in the fasted animals and those fed the protein diet, but not in the glucose or fat-fed animals. The activities of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (EC 6.4.1.2) and microsomal fatty acid elongation were decreased in all the experimental groups except for the glucose-fed group. It is concluded that fasting results in a decrease in lung cell size but not in lung cell number.
