Glucose-6-phosphate deficient human erythrocytes were incubated with low concentrations of 5-hydroxy-6-desmethylprimaquine, a metabolite of primaquine in animals, for up to 18 hours under sterile conditions. These erythrocytes became less deformable than untreated erythrocytes. This decrease in deformability was closely associated with the extent and time course of formation of Heinz bodies in the G6PD-deficient erythrocytes. These results support the hypothesis that the in vivo formation of low concentrations of 5H6DPQ by metabolism of primaquine could be the cause of Heinz body formation and the hemolytic anemia seen when primaquine is administered to G6PD-deficient individuals.  相似文献

1. The question of the critical pore diameter for streaming potential is discussed. 2. The surface charge is calculated for cellulose in contact with solutions of K3PO4, K2CO3, K2SO4, KCl, and ThCl4. 3. The surface charge of cellulose in contact with a solution of 2 x 10–4 N NaCl is calculated as a function of temperature and is found to show a sharp break at 39°. This is interpreted in terms of the change of the specific heat of water. 4. A marked ion antagonism is found in NaCl:KCl, KCl:MgCl2, NaCl:MgCl2, NaCl:CaCl2, KCl:CaCl2, CaCl2:MgCl2 mixtures when the surface charge is calculated as a function of concentration.  相似文献

This study examines whether delayed mating influences the reproductive fitness of female reptile ticks, Aponomma hydrosauri. Delayed mating was induced by the prevention of male attachment to hosts for 20 or 40 days after females had been attached. The results showed that delayed mating had no significant influence on the number of viable progeny produced by female ticks. This may represent an important advantage for colonizing Ap. hydrosauri females in marginal population areas, particularly at parapatric boundaries.  相似文献

The effect of medium dissolved-oxygen tension on the molar growth yield, respiration and cytochrome content of Beneckea natriegens in chemostat culture (D 0-37 H-1) was examined. The molar growth yield (Y), the specific rate of oxygen (qo2) and glucose consumption, and the specific rate of carbon dioxide evolution were independent of the dissolved-oxygen tension above a critical value (greatest than 2 mmHg). However, the potential respiration rate increased with reduction in the dissolved-oxygen tension at values of the dissolved-oxygen tension well above the critical value. Changes in the cytochrome content occurred at dissolved-oxygen tensions well above the critical value. An increase in cytochrome c relative to cytochrome b was observed as the dissolved-oxygen tension was decreased. Reduction of the dissolved-oxygen tension to less than I mmHg caused a switch to fermentative metabolism shown by the apparent rise in YO2 and decrease in the molar growth yield from glucose. At this point the potential respiration rate (qO2) increased to its highest value, while the cytochrome pattern reverted to that observed at dissolved-oxygen tensions above 96 mmHg. There appeared to be no correlation between cytochrome content, potential qO2, in situ qO2, and cyanide sensitivity of the organism at various dissolved-oxygen tensions.  相似文献
