Some properties of a pheromone allowing individual recognition, from the scats of an Australian lizard, Egernia striolata 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The Australian lizard, Egernia striolata, can distinguish its own scats from those of unfamiliar conspecific individuals. This appears to be unrelated to diet, because
there is no difference in the response to scats from unfamiliar lizards fed on diets that are the same or different from the
test lizard. The signal that induces the response is not a visual or tactile property of scat structure, because test lizards
respond equally to crushed and intact scats. We suggest that a pheromone is secreted onto the scat as it is produced. Water
solutions of scats did not contain signal components that allowed lizards to distinguish their own scats from others. However,
solutions of scats in dichloromethane (DCM) retained unique characteristics, and test lizards responded more strongly to the
solution from scats of an unfamiliar lizard that to the solution from their own scats. Further fractionation of the DCM solution
in pentane and in methanol led to loss of the unique signals needed for individual recognition, but those were restored when
the pentane and methanol fractions were recombined. We infer that these lizards can distinguish between scats of different
individuals on the basis of signals they receive from a complex combination of chemicals.

Neutrophil homogenates contained a high affinity guanosine triphosphatase (GTPase) that was stimulatable (+27%) by the addition of 100 nM N-formyl chemotactic peptide (CHO-pep), but not by 1 microgram X ml-1 phorbolmyristate acetate (PMA). Kinetic analysis of the stimulation demonstrated an apparent lagtime of 14.3 +/- 6.9 s between the addition of CHO-pep and the optimal GTPase stimulation. The GTPase activity (but not CHO-pep-stimulated GTPase activity) was preserved in a highly purified plasma membrane fraction of the homogenate. From these observations we suggest that both a high affinity guanine nucleotide binding protein and GTPase are closely associated with the plasma membrane CHO-pep receptor. The possibility that GTPase activity may influence guanine nucleotide regulation of adenylate cyclase during CHO-pep stimulation of neutrophils is discussed. 相似文献

The efficacy of an attenuated rubella virus vaccine, Cendevax, was tested on 65 school children. Forty-nine of them (75%) had pre-existing antibodies and in these there was no increase in the HAI antibody titres after administration of the vaccine. Sixteen children (25%) had no demonstrable rubella HAI antibody prior to vaccination. From the latter group, postvaccination serum samples were available from only 11, and 10 of these seronegative children showed seroconversion after vaccination. The geometric mean HAI titre was 1:180. Seven of the 10 postvaccination serum samples had complement-fixing antibodies and specific IgM antibodies were detected by the immunofluorescence test in 8. The results and agreements of the 1st international BoLA workshop, held in Edinburgh, Scotland in August 1978, are reported. Most of these concern the results from a comparison test of 249 alloantisera to bovine lymphocytes, the antisera being contributed by 9 laboratories. These sera were compared directly in Edinburgh on a panel of lymphocytes from 130 cattle of 21 breeds. In the micro-lymphocytotoxicity test used 75% of the sera reacted. Sixty eight of these sera were grouped into clusters according to their reaction patterns against the lymphocyte panel. Eleven of these clusters were clearly defined and were given workshop BoLA designations. In addition 22 sera were assigned to subgroups of the agreed clusters. There was no evidence that the method of production of the sera had any effect on their specificity.
Although genetic data was not available, the phenotypes of the test panel of lymphocytes are consistent with the clusters detecting antigens controlled by multiple alleles at a single autosomal locus. It was agreed to name the genetic region where this putative locus is located BoLA (bovine lymphocyte antigen). 相似文献

Recent advances in the use of microsatellite markers and the development of comparative gene mapping techniques have made the construction of high resolution genetic maps of livestock species possible. Framework and comprehensive genetic linkage maps of porcine chromosome 6 have resulted from the first international effort to integrate genetic maps from multiple laboratories. Eleven highly polymorphic genetic markers were exchanged and mapped by four independent laboratories on a total of 583 animals derived from four reference populations. The chromosome 6 framework map consists of 10 markers ordered with high local support. The average marker interval of the framework map is 15.1 cM (sex averaged). The framework map is 135, 175 and 109 cM in length (for sex averaged, female and male maps, respectively). The comprehensive map includes a total of 48 type I and type II markers with a sex averaged interval of 3.5 cM and is 166, 196 and 126 cM (for sex averaged, female and male maps, respectively). Additional markers within framework map marker intervals can thus be selected from the comprehensive map for further analysis of quantitive trait loci (QTL) located on chromosome 6. The resulting maps of swine chromosome 6 provide a valuable tool for analysing and locating QTL. 相似文献
