Summary Concentrations of metallothionein and metals, i.e. cadmium, copper and zinc, were determined in six rejected transplanted human kidneys and one kidney prepared for transplantation. Lycopodium annotinum, a clonal pteridophyte, was grown under canopies formed by various combinations of deciduousVaccinium myrtillus and evergreenV. vitis-idaea. The canopies differed in red:far-red ratio, withV. myrtillus giving the lowest ratio. The current year's horizontal segments ofL. annotinum had the same specific weight in all treatments, but the lengths of the segments were significantly increased when grown under the canopy ofV. myrtillus compared withV. vitis-idaea. The effect of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) on rat liver microsomal detoxication was studied, using the non-carcinogenic aromatic amine N,N-dimethylaniline (dimethylaniline) as substrate. Prior to the preparation of microsomes, the rat liver was exposed to DMN either in vivo (by i.p. injection) or in the isolated liver perfusion system (by addition to the perfusion medium). DMN treatment in vivo (20 mg/kg body wt.) caused a 40% increase in dimethylaniline N-oxygenation and a 30% decrease in dimethylaniline C-oxygenation. When DMN was added to the perfusion medium to a final concentration of 5 or 25 mM, a similar effect was observed. With the 5 mM dose, C-oxygenation was decreased by 20% with a non-significant increase in N-oxygenation. The higher dose caused a 50% increase in N-oxygenation, whereas the decrease in C-oxygenation remained at 20%.When microsomes were incubated with both DMN (5 mM) and dimethylaniline (5 mM) in the system, a small but significant decrease in both N- and C-oxygenation of dimethylaniline was observed. The effect of DMN on the amino acid incorporation into liver and plasma proteins was also studied in the liver perfusion system. The synthesis of both liver and plasma proteins was reduced by DMN. 相似文献

The annual hemiparasiteEuphrasia stricta occurs on Gotland in two early-flowering meadow varieties.E. stricta var.suecica is on the Swedish red-list as endangered, occurring in Sweden only on the Baltic island of Gotland. It probably has near relatives east of the Baltic proper. The other variety,E. stricta var.tenuis, has a wider distribution occurring almost all over Sweden, but is declining in abundance. Both varieties have close morphological similarities and habitat preferences, raising questions about which level conservation efforts should be focused on, varieties or populations. In this study we describe the genetic structure between and within these two varieties using amplified fragment length polymorphism, AFLP.F ST between varieties is 0.14, and between populations within the varietiesE. stricta var.suecica and var.tenuis F ST is 0.60 and 0.26 respectively. The partitioning of gene diversity to different levels shows that 14% of the genetic diversity occurs between varieties, 42% between populations within varieties, and 44% within populations. Significant genetic differentiation was detected between varieties, populations and subpopulations within populations using a constrained principal coordinate analysis. We suggest that all of the existing populations of these two varieties on Gotland should be preserved, since they are few (6E. stricta var.suecica and 5E. stricta var.tenuis) and much of the genetic diversity is partitioned between populations. 相似文献

In vitro wound models are useful for research on wound re‐epithelialization. Hyperspectral imaging represents a non‐destructive alternative to histology analysis for detection of re‐epithelialization. This study aims to characterize the main optical behavior of a wound model in order to enable development of detection algorithms. K‐Means clustering and agglomerative analysis were used to group spatial regions based on the spectral behavior, and an inverse photon transport model was used to explain differences in optical properties. Six samples of the wound model were prepared from human tissue and followed over 22 days. Re‐epithelialization occurred at a mean rate of 0.24 mm2/day after day 8 to 10. Suppression of wound spectral features was the main feature characterizing re‐epithelialized and intact tissue. Modeling the photon transport through a diffuse layer placed on top of wound tissue properties reproduced the spectral behavior. The missing top layer represented by wounds is thus optically detectable using hyperspectral imaging. 相似文献

Summary Age involuted thymus tissue from a middle aged (33 years) and an old (63 years) man have been examined by electron microscopy and compared with thymus tissue from children. Biopsies had been taken during surgical correction of congenital heart defects.The fine structural architecture of cortex, medulla and connective tissue in the remaining lymphatic islands in the adult thymus investigated was not different to the thymus of children. We were surprised to find vigorous lymphocytopoiesis in the cortical regions and to recognize extended areas of medulla with a cellular composition which obviously provides the same microenvironment for T-cell maturation as the medulla of the non involuted thymus. The absence of a genotoxic action in the rat of several peroxisome proliferators (PP) has been confirmed by measuring gross degradation, unscheduled DNA-synthesis (UDS), as well as by measurement of single strand breaks using alkali unwinding in absence and presence of inhibitors of DNA-repair. Similar results were obtained even after drastically lowering the glutathione content of liver. Further, after oral administration of ciprofibrate, no potentiating effect was found in vivo on the generation of micronuclei in hepatocytes by ionizing radiation. The metabolically inert PP, perfluorooctanoic acid, was found to act as a promoter of liver tumors in the rat induced by diethylnitrosamine in an initiation-selection-promotion protocol. The results are discussed in light of available information concerning the mechanism of action of PPs. 相似文献
