Substituted N-Cbz and N-Boc protected arylamino acrylic acids and esters have been prepared and used in asymmetric hydrogenations catalyzed by PROPRAPHOSRh. Stereoselectivities > 90% ee could be achieved, the rate of which is dependent on the position of the substituent in the aromatic ring. This review examines the potential for producing biomass on restored landfills using willow and poplar species in short rotation energy forestry. In southern England, the potential production may be about 20 t ha(-1) of dry stem wood annually. However, actual yields are likely to be constrained by detrimental soil conditions, including shallow depth, compaction, low water holding capacity and poor nutritional status. These factors will affect plant growth by causing drought, waterlogging, poor soil aeration and nutritional deficiencies. Practical solutions to these problems include the correct placement and handling of the agricultural cap material, soil amelioration using tillage and the addition of organic matter (such as sewage sludge), irrigation (possibly using landfill leachate), the installation of drainage and the application of inorganic fertilizers. The correct choice of species and clone, along with good site management are also essential if economically viable yields are to be obtained. Further investigations are required to determine the actual yields that can be obtained on landfill sites using a range of management inputs. 相似文献

A method is described for depleting rabbit reticulocyte lysates and wheat germ extracts of endogenous tRNAs by affinity chromatography using a matrix generated by coupling ethanolamine to epoxy-activated Sepharose 6B. Greater than 90% depletion of tRNA is achieved with the result that translation becomes in effect absolutely dependent on added tRNA. This depletion procedure should prove very useful for studying the influence of tRNA concentration, and the spectrum of the tRNA population, on recoding events such as programmed frameshifting and readthrough of termination codons. 相似文献

Mechanisms of maternal aneuploidy: FISH analysis of oocytes and polar bodies in patients undergoing assisted conception 总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
We have examined unfertilised oocytes and their first polar bodies (PBs) to determine the way in which the frequency of whole chromosome imbalance compares with that involving single chromatids and whether the precocious separation of chromatids prior to anaphase I affects all pairs of chromosomes. We have applied the technique of fluorescent in situ hybridisation in a three-stage method by using locus-specific probes for chromosomes 13 and 21 and alpha-satellite probes for chromosomes 1, 9, 16, 18 and X to determine the chromosome status of oocytes and their PBs. We obtained analysable results from 127 oocytes and 57 PBs from 72 patients of average age 33 years. Six oocytes and three PBs had extra signals but, of these, three were derived from a single patient, aged 26. Anomalies were seen in chromosomes 13, 16, 18, X and, notably, 21 but none were observed in chromosomes 1 and 9. Half of the anomalies involved additional chromatids rather than whole chromosomes. Since particular chromatids were found to be prematurely separated in the metaphase II oocyte, this may provide further evidence for an additional mechanism of maternal aneuploidy that operates at anaphase II. Detailed analyses of both oocytes and PBs have elucidated possible mechanisms leading to aneuploid gametes in this group of patients with fertility problems. 相似文献

Pathological changes in iron status are known to occur during bypass and will be superimposed upon physiological abnormalities in iron distribution, characteristic of the neonatal period. We have sought to define the severity of iron overload in these patients. Plasma samples from 65 paediatric patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) were analysed for non-haem iron, total iron binding capacity, transferrin and bleomycin-detectable iron. Patients were divided into four age groups for analysis. Within each age group, patients who were in iron overload at any time point were statistically compared to those who were not. The most significant changes in iron chemistry were seen in the plasma of neonates, with 25% in a state of plasma iron overload. 18.5% of infants and 14.3% of children at 1-5 years were also in iron overload at some time point during CPB. No children over 5 years, however, went into iron overload. Increased iron saturation of transferrin eliminates its ability to bind reactive forms of iron and to act as an antioxidant. When transferrin is fully saturated with iron, reactive forms of iron are present in the plasma which can stimulate iron-driven oxidative reactions. Our data suggest that paediatric patients are at greater risk of iron overload during CPB, and that some form of iron chelation therapy may be advantageous to decrease oxidative stress. 相似文献

Relative importance of osmotic-stress and ion-specific effects on ABA-mediated inhibition of leaf expansion growth in Phaseolus vulgaris 总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
The osmotic and ion-specific components of salt-induced inhibition of leaf expansion growth were investigated in beans grown from 12 h to several days in either NaCl-containing solution cultures, an isosmotic concentrated macronutrient solution, or a vermiculite–compost mixture with low Na+ but high Cl– availability. Inhibition of leaf expansion and leaf ABA increase was more intense in the NaCl than in the isosmotic macronutrient treatment. Root Na+ was highly correlated to inhibition of leaf expansion and leaf or xylem sap ABA. When Na+ was sequestered in soil, salinized plants showed no reduction in leaf expansion or ABA increase, regardless of the presence of high leaf Cl– concentrations. Stomatal conductance exhibited an exponential relationship with the reciprocal value of xylem sap ABA. Our results indicate that an ion-specific effect caused by Na+ in roots may account for an ABA-mediated reponse of both stomatal closure and leaf expansion inhibition. 相似文献
