Some data on the structure and composition of chlorosomes are in conflict with their energy and kinetic characteristics. Among
the latter is the very short excitation lifetime of the dominant pigment C740 in the 3D giant chlorosome (about 1000 pigment
molecules per reaction center). Therewith the excitation transfer from C740 to baseplate bacteriochlorophyll B795 and further
to the main membrane B860 can hardly be efficient. This result was obtained by modeling the energy migration between these
pigment fractions in maximally optimized conditions. The possible reasons and mechanisms responsible for such strong nonphotochemical

The interface between the host cell and the microsymbiont is an important zone for development and differentiation during
consecutive stages of Rhizobium-legume symbiosis. Legume root nodule extensins, otherwise known as arabinogalactan protein-extensins
(AGPEs) are abundant components of infection thread matrix. We have characterized the origin and distribution of these glycoproteins
at the symbiotic interface of root nodules of symbiotically defective mutants of pea (Pisum sativum L.) by using immunogold localization with MAC265 an anti-AGPE monoclonal antibody. For mutants with defective growth of infection
threads, the AGPE epitope was abundant in the extracellular matrix surrounding infected host cells in the central infected
tissue of the nodule, as well as in the lumen of Rhizobiuminduced infection threads. This seems to indicate a mistargeting
of AGPE as a consequence of abnormal growth of the infection threads. Furthermore, mutants in the gene sym33 showed reduced labeling with MAC265 and, in some infection threads and droplets, the label was completely absent, a phenomenon
that is not observed in wild-type nodules. This suggests an alteration in the composition of the infection thread matrix for

The purpose of this study was to explore the association of the MCT1 gene Glu490Asp polymorphism (rs1049434) with athletic status and performance of endurance athletes. A total of 1,208 Brazilians (318 endurance athletes and 890 non-athletes) and 867 Europeans (315 endurance athletes and 552 non-athletes) were evaluated in a case–control approach. Brazilian participants were classified based on self-declared ethnicity to test whether the polymorphism was different between Caucasians and Afro-descendants. Moreover, 66 Hungarian athletes underwent an incremental test until exhaustion to assess blood lactate levels, while 46 Russian athletes had their maximum oxygen uptake ( ) compared between genotypes. In the Brazilian cohort, the major T-allele was more frequent in Caucasian top-level competitors compared to their counterparts of lower competitive level (P = 0.039), and in Afro-descendant athletes compared to non-athletes (P = 0.015). Similarly, the T-allele was more frequent in European athletes (P = 0.029). Meta-analysis of the Brazilian and European cohorts confirmed that the T-allele is over-represented in endurance athletes (OR: 1.48, P = 0.03), especially when Afro-descendant athletes were included in the meta-analysis (OR: 1.58, P = 0.005). Furthermore, carriers of the T/T genotype accumulated less blood lactate in response to intense effort (P < 0.01) and exhibited higher (P = 0.04). In conclusion, the Glu490Asp polymorphism was associated with endurance athletic status and performance. Our findings suggest that, although ethnic differences may exist, the presence of the major T-allele (i.e., the Glu-490 allele) favours endurance performance more than the mutant A-allele (i.e., the 490-Asp allele). 相似文献

The qualitative and quantitative composition of low-molecular exometabolites in roots of pea (Pisum sativum L.) was studied with a cultivar Triumph and its parental forms (a symbiotically effective variety k-8274 and a modern highly productive cv. Classic). A relationship between root exudation and the ability of cultivars to establish symbiosis was analyzed. In the early stages of plant growth, the roots of cv. Triumph exhibited low exudation of organic acids, sugars, and amino acids. The quantitative composition of organic acids in the root exudates of cv. Triumph was close to that of cv. k-8274, whereas the composition of sugars and amino acids was similar to that of cv. Classic. In the field experiment, the effect of inoculation with a mixture of rhizobium strains and mycorrhizal fungus on plant growth was more evident in cv. Triumph than in cvs. Classic and k-8274. The results suggest that the high symbiotic potential of cv. Triumph is related to exudation of pyruvic and succinic acids that were the major components of root exometabolites both in Triumph and k-8274 cultivars. 相似文献

Two Fix? mutants of pea (Pisum sativum L.) which are unable to fix molecular nitrogen, E135f (sym-13) and Sprint-2Fix? (sym-31), were crossed to create the doubly homozygous recessive line, named RBT (sym-13, sym-31). The ultrastructural organization of nodules of the RBT line was compared with that of each of the two parental mutant lines and with the original wild-type genotypes of the cultivars Sparkle and Sprint-2. It was shown that the RBT line is similar to the mutant line Sprint-2Fix? in having abnormal symbiosome composition and bacteroids with relatively undifferentiated morphology. Because the phenotypic manifestation of the sym-31 mutant allele suppresses the phenotypic manifestation of the sym-13 mutant allele, it is concluded that the function of the gene Sym-31 (which is mutated in the Sprint-2Fix? line) is necessary at an earlier stage of symbiosome development than the gene Sym-13 (which is mutant in the E135f line). 相似文献
