Summary A saturator of small dimensions is described. Moist air with dewpoint temperatures ranging from 2°C to 30°C with a long-term stability of ±0.05°C and a maximum output of 400 1/h can be attained.Special attention is paid to the calibration procedure and to the effect of the reduction of dewpoint temperature of moist air flowing through a tube.  相似文献

Arthopyrenia endobrya from Southern Brazil is illustrated and described as a new species of lichens. The thallus is composed of filamentous green algae loosely surrounded by fungal hyphae. Both symbionts grow endophytically within the leaf cells of two species ofLejeuneaceae (Hepaticae). The algae and hyphae penetrate the cell walls of the host by means of fine perforations. The ascocarps develop between the leaves and perforate them with their apical region. The classification as a member of the genusArthopyrenia is preliminary.

The basiphilous pine forests in southern Telemark, SE Norway, have previously been classified according to the ordinary phytosociological methods of the Braun—Blanquet system. The same material was later treated by numerical analysis, i.e., TABORD—classification and the ordination technique 'reciprocal averaging'. No significant differences were found between the numerical and the non—numerical classification except for the classification of some transitional communities. Ordination by 'reciprocal averaging' gave a useful complement to the TABORD classification, and re—leves and species were distributed along interpretable gradients (i.e., along a dry—wet gradient and along a gradient from forest—rim conditions to forest conditions).  相似文献

Dry ashing and wet ashing are two commonly used methods for the preparation of biological materials for trace element analysis by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. In this paper, National Bureau of Standards (NBS) bovine liver was dry ashed at 450°C for 24 h in silica glass (Vycor) or procelain crucibles; the resulting ash was dissolved in either concentrated nitric or hydrochloric acid. Dry ashing efficiency was evaluated by comparing iron, copper, zinc, and manganese concentrations of the samples with the values certified by NBS. Highest recoveries were obtained by dry ashing in silica glass (Vycor) crucibles. Dissolving the resultant ash in either hydrochloric or nitric acids did not significantly alter the results. A comparison between dry and wet ashing shows the latter method to be superior for the preparation of biological tissues for analysis of iron, copper, zinc, and manganese.  相似文献

The mass per unit length of and the corresponding DNA packing ratio of about 14 for the chromatin soluble at moderate ionic strengths has been determined by light scattering. With the increase in ionic strength and corresponding release of histone H1 the DNA packing ratio has been found to decrease down to 4.4. The data obtained are consistent with the idea suggested previously that the salt-soluble chromatin is organized in double nucleosome chains arranged side-by-side and stabilized by H1. With salt-induced H1 release the double chain dissociates and the nucleosomal DNA partially unravels.  相似文献

Summary A comparison of citric acid fermentations in manganese-deficient and manganese-containing media showed that manganese strongly influences idiophase metabolism. In the presence of manganese, cell growth increases, sugar consumption is diminished and acidogenesis decreases drastically. An investigation of the key enzymes of glycolysis, the pentosephosphate pathway, TCA-cycle, nitrogen metabolism, and gluconeogenesis indicated that manganese deficiency was accompanied by a repression of anabolic and TCA-cycle-enzymes with the exception of citrate synthase. The activity of this enzyme and the enzymes of glycolysis paralleled the sugar consumption rate. In the presence of manganese, no repression of enzyme synthesis was observed. Activities of 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase and isocitrate lyase could not be detected in either case. The results support the hypothesis that manganese deficiency mainly affects the operation of biosynthetic reactions inAspergillus niger, thus leading to an overflow of citric acid as an end product of glycolysis.  相似文献

Summary Radioactive decay in a labelled molecule leads to specific chemical and biological consequences which are due to local transmutation effects such as recoil, electronic excitation, build-up of charge states and change of chemical identity, as well as to internal radiolytic effects. In the present paper these effects are reviewed emphasizing the relation of the chemical alterations on a molecular level to the biological manifestation. Potential importance of this type of research for biomedical applications is pointed out. In part 1 we review the underlying physical and chemical principles and consequences of -decay of3H,14C,32P,33P,35S and125I for gaseous and simple condensed organic systems. Part 2 which will appear in the next issue will include the discussion of biological effects associated with -decay.  相似文献
