A Pseudomonas sp., isolated from sugarcane rhizosphere soil, readily metabolized not only alpha and gamma isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane, but also the thermodynamically more stable beta isomer, under aerobic conditions. Bacterial degradation of the three isomers led to the accumulation of a transitory metabolite and eventual release of covalently linked chlorine as chloride in stoichiometric amounts. 相似文献

Cancer is a major killer disease throughout human history. Thus, cancer becomes a major point of interest in life science. It was proved that cancer is a nitrogen trap and tumor cells are avid glutamine consumers. The non-essential amino acid glutamine, which is a glutamic acid derivative, supplies its amide nitrogen to tumor cells in the biosynthesis of purine and pyrimidine bases of nucleic acids as well as takes part in protein synthesis. Based on these and in continuation of our composite programme of development of new potential anticancer agents through rational drug design, 17 new 5-N-Substituted-2-(substituted benzenesulphonyl) glutamines were selected for synthesis. These compounds as well as 36 earlier synthesized glutamine analogues were screened for antitumor activity using percentage inhibition of tumor cell count as the activity parameter. QSAR study was performed with 53 compounds in order to design leads with increased effectiveness for antitumor activity using both physicochemical and topological parameters. QSAR study showed that steric effect on the aromatic ring is conducive to the activity. n-butyl substitution on aliphatic side chain and atom no 12 is important for antitumor activity of glutamine analogues. 相似文献

Oxidative damage was assessed through the estimation of lipid peroxides (LP) in the lungs of an ageing short-lived species of reptile, Calotes versicolor, commonly known as the garden lizard. Attempts were also made to trace its relationship with the age pigment, lipofuscin and the antioxidant ascorbic acid. While LP increased with advancing age the contents of both lipofuscin and ascorbic acid did not show appreciable change during maturation ( < 1-1 year old) but declined during senescence phase (1 to 2-4 year old). While the pattern of age associated changes in LP and ascorbic acid indicate similarity with the pattern observed in most of the mammals, the reduction of lipofuscin in older lizards is a significant departure from the common trend. 相似文献

The growth and metabolic capabilities of microorganisms depend on their interactions with the culture medium. Many media contain two or more key substrates, and an organism may have different preferences for the components. Microorganisms adjust their preferences according to the prevailing conditions so as to favor their own survival. Cybernetic modeling describes this evolutionary strategy by defining a goal that an organism tries to attain optimally at all times. The goal is often, but not always, maximization of growth, and it may require the cells to manipulate their metabolic processes in response to changing environmental conditions. The cybernetic approach overcomes some of the limitations of metabolic control analysis (MCA), but it does not substitute MCA. Here we review the development of the cybernetic modeling of microbial metabolism, how it may be combined with MCA, and what improvements are needed to make it a viable technique for industrial fermentation processes. 相似文献

Sumithion, a broad-spectrum insecticide, was tested for its mutagenicity in the Drosophila wing-spot test and sex-linked recessive lethal test. Strains carrying the recessive mutant markers mwh and flr3 in their third chromosomes, expressed phenotypically as multiple trichomes or thickened and misshapen wing hairs in the adult wings, were used in the wing-spot test. Larvae transheterozygous for these markers were exposed to the insecticide in instant food and the sex-linked recessive lethal test was performed by the standard technique using the Basc strain. The compound is mutagenic in the wing primordial cells and induces recombination at high doses. Further, the frequency of induction of sex-linked recessive lethals is significant only at high treatment doses. 相似文献
