Variation in quantitative dermatoglyphics among three endogamous groups of marine fishermen of Puri Coast, India, is greater for the palmar variables than for the fingers. This is the case in both the sexes. The pattern of population affinities, however, differs for the males and females. In order to evaluate the importance of palmar variables in population studies, the results in males are compared with those of finger variables and anthropometrics. There is no significant heterogeneity between the groups for finger variables. Although significant intergroup variability is observed in the palmar and anthropometric traits, the two sets of results are not in the same direction. Palmar dermatoglyphic relationships reflect the caste affiliations, while the anthropometric are in line with geographic proximity.  相似文献

Rhizopus oryzae PR7 MTCC 9642 was a dimorphic fungus that showed a regular 90 days cycle of filament (mycelium) to pellet (yeast) transformation through a distinct bottom dwelling intermediate state and the pellets never revert back to filamentous form. Apart from the normal cycle, high temperature (37°C and above) and extreme pH also induced the yeast formation. Among the ions tested, calcium and chloride ions were found to restore the filamentous morphology, even in extreme pH and temperature. Cysteine HCl also played noteworthy role in maintaining mycelial growth even at adverse condition. Immobilized spores showed the appearance of intermediate form instead of typical yeast form even at high temperature. The strain could produce a number of extracellular hydrolytic enzymes like cellulolytic, xylanolytic, pectinolytic and amylolytic enzymes. The pellet and mycelial forms were found to be a better producer of cellulase–lignocellulase enzymes and amylolytic enzymes respectively, which might be correlated with their infectivity. Increase in inoculum size, agitation during cultivation, change in carbon and nitrogen source failed to induce mycelial growth in extreme conditions, which might be explained as irreversible change of configuration of protein responsible for mycelial development.  相似文献

A total of 130 flax accessions of diverse morphotypes and worldwide origin were assessed for genetic diversity and population structure using 11 morphological traits and microsatellite markers (15 gSSRs and 7 EST–SSRs). Analysis performed after classifying these accessions on the basis of plant height, branching pattern, seed size, Indian/foreign origin into six categories called sub-populations viz. fibre type exotic, fibre type indigenous, intermediate type exotic, intermediate type indigenous, linseed type exotic and linseed type indigenous. The study assessed different diversity indices, AMOVA, population structure and included a principal coordinate analysis based on different marker systems. The highest diversity was exhibited by gSSR markers (SI = 0.46; He = 0.31; P = 85.11). AMOVA based on all markers explained significant difference among fibre type, intermediate type and linseed type populations of flax. In terms of variation explained by different markers, EST-SSR markers (12%) better differentiated flax populations compared to morphological (9%) and gSSR (6%) markers at P = 0.01. The maximum Nei's unbiased genetic distance (D = 0.11) was observed between fibre type and linseed type exotic sub-populations based on EST-SSR markers. The combined structure analysis by using all markers grouped Indian fibre type accessions (63.4%) in a separate cluster along with the Indian intermediate type (48.7%), whereas Indian accessions (82.16%) of linseed type constituted an independent cluster. These findings were supported by the results of the principal coordinate analysis. Morphological markers employed in the study found complementary with microsatellite based markers in deciphering genetic diversity and population structure of the flax germplasm.  相似文献

A gene regulatory network (GRN) represents a set of genes and its regulatory interactions. The inference of the regulatory interactions between genes is usually carried out using an appropriate mathematical model and the available gene expression profile. Among the various models proposed for GRN inference, our recently proposed Michaelis–Menten based ODE model provides a good trade-off between the computational complexity and biological relevance. This model, like other known GRN models, also uses an evolutionary algorithm for parameter estimation. Considering various issues associated with such population based stochastic optimization approaches (e.g. diversity, premature convergence due to local optima, accuracy, etc.), it becomes important to seed the initial population with good individuals which are closer to the optimal solution. In this paper, we exploit the inherent strength of principal component analysis (PCA) in a novel manner to initialize the population for GRN optimization. The benefit of the proposed method is validated by reconstructing in silico and in vivo networks of various sizes. For the same level of accuracy, the approach with PCA based initialization shows improved convergence speed.  相似文献

Aspergillus terreus is an allergenic fungus, in addition to causing infections in both humans and plants. However, the allergens in this fungus are still unknown, limiting the development of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. We used a proteomic approach to search for allergens, identifying 16 allergens based on two-dimensional immunoblotting with A. terreus susceptible patient sera. We further characterized triose-phosphate isomerase (Asp t 36), one of the dominant IgE (IgE)-reactive proteins. The gene was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. Phylogenetic analysis showed Asp t 36 to be highly conserved with close similarity to the triose-phosphate isomerase protein sequence from Dermatophagoides farinae, an allergenic dust mite. We identified four immunodominant epitopes using synthetic peptides, and mapped them on a homology-based model of the tertiary structure of Asp t 36. Among these, two were found to create a continuous surface patch on the 3D structure, rendering it an IgE-binding hotspot. Biophysical analysis indicated that Asp t 36 shows similar secondary structure content and temperature sensitivity with other reported triose-phosphate isomerase allergens. In vivo studies using a murine model displayed that the recombinant Asp t 36 was able to stimulate airway inflammation, as demonstrated by an influx of eosinophils, goblet cell hyperplasia, elevated serum Igs, and induction of Th2 cytokines. Collectively, our results reveal the immunogenic property of Asp t 36, a major allergen from A. terreus, and define a new fungal allergen more broadly. This allergen could serve as a potent candidate for investigating component resolved diagnosis and immunotherapy.  相似文献

Tomato production in the tropics is threatened by whitefly infestation and tomato leaf curl virus (ToLCV) causing severe economic losses. No stable resistance to these biotic challenges has been identified in eastern India. Therefore, initial screening of 19 advance breeding lines of tomato was carried out during the year 2016–17. Based on the whitefly population per leaf and tomato leaf curl disease severity, eight tomato genotypes were selected for final screening during the year 2017–18. Morphological leaf traits and biochemical parameters in tomato leaf were assessed in selected genotypes and considered as potential mediators of resistance. Significant variation was observed for whitefly infestation and ToLCV disease severity among the tomato genotypes tested. Higher leaf trichome density with narrow and thinner leaves and higher total phenol content in leaf emerged as reliable morphological and biochemical markers for early selection of tomato genotype resistant to whitefly and ToLCV disease. The resistance of tomato genotypes 2016/Res-1, 2015/Res-5, 2014/Res-1 and 2014/Res-4 to both whitefly and ToLCV disease is based on antixenotic properties and they could be utilized in future breeding to enhance stable resistance against these biotic challenges.  相似文献

The gravito-electrostatic sheath (GES) model, previously proposed to address the fundamental issues on the surface emission mechanism of outflowing solar plasma on the basis of plasma?wall interaction processes with inertialess electrons on both bounded and unbounded scales, is reformulated in the light of active electron inertial response amid geometrical curvature effects. We accordingly derive the electron population distribution law considering both weak electron inertia and geometrical curvature effects in a new analytic construct coupled with the GES structure equations in a closed form. The analysis shows that the GES characteristics and hence plasma outflow dynamics are noticeably affected because of electron inertia. As a consequence of the electron inertia inclusion in contrast with the previous GES formalism, it is found that the GES width gets reduced (–5%), the sheath boundary gets contracted (–7%), the net current density at the surface gets reduced (–25%), the GES potential enhances (+17%), the transonic horizon decreases (?35%), self-gravity enhances (+2%), and so forth. The obtained results are in fair accord with the existing model predictions centered around both the earlier GES formalisms and standard fluid-kinetic predictions.  相似文献
