An investigation was undertaken to screen, select and evaluate a set of bacterial and cyanobacterial isolates from the wheat rhizosphere for their role as biofertilizers in wheat. From an initial set of 23 cyanobacterial strains and 110 bacterial isolates from wheat rhizospheric soil, 3 bacterial and 3 cyanobacterial strains were selected based on their plant growth promoting potential under laboratory and controlled greenhouse conditions. In vitro compatibility studies revealed positive interactions among the six strains. Pot experiments were conducted with wheat variety HD 2687, with a total of 51 treatments, along with recommended fertilizer controls. Various combinations of the selected set of three bacterial (PW1, PW5 and PW7) and three cyanobacterial isolates (CW1, CW2 and CW3) were used along with 1/3 N and full dose of P and K fertilizers. Significant enhancement in the soil microbiological (Dehydrogenase activity, FDA hydrolase, Alkaline phosphatase and microbial biomass) and plant growth/yield parameters were recorded. Observations revealed a two-fold increase in panicle weight in selected combinations (PW1+PW7+CW3; PW1+ CW1+CW2/CW1+CW3; CW2+CW3), as compared to control treatment involving full dose of chemical fertilizers. Such combinations, which also provided N savings of 40–80 kg N/ha are being further evaluated in field experiments. This study for the first time illustrated the positive and dynamic interactions among bacterial and cyanobacterial strains and their promise in integrated nutrient management of wheat crop.  相似文献

Abstract

Ageing is associated with increased oxidative stress accompanied by cognitive decline. The aim of this study was to evaluate oxidative stress biomarkers and their possible relationship with cognitive performances during ageing among the Malay population. Approximately 160 healthy Malay adults aged between 28 and 79 years were recruited around Selangor and Klang Valley. Cognitive function was assessed by Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), forward digit span (FDS), backward digit span (BDS), digit symbol, Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test immediate recalled [RAVLT(I)] and delayed recalled [RAVLT(D)], and visual reproduction immediate recalled (VR-I) and delayed recalled (VR-II). DNA damage, plasma protein carbonyl and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were also determined. Cognitive function test showed significant lower scores of MoCA, BDS, RAVLT(I), RAVLT(D), digit symbol, VR-I, and VR-II in the older age group (60 years old) compared with the 30-, 40-, and 50-year-old group. The extent of DNA damage was sequential with age: 60?>?50?>?40?>?30, whereas protein carbonyl was higher in 40-, 50-, and 60-year-old groups compared with the youngest group (30 years old). However, the MDA level was observed unchanged in all age groups. Approximately 21.88% of the participants had cognitive impairment. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that DNA damage and protein carbonyl levels are predictors for cognitive impairment in healthy Malays. In conclusion, cognitive decline occurred in healthy adult Malay population at an early age of 30 years old with corresponding higher DNA damage and protein oxidation.  相似文献

The interaction of triazole substituted 4‐methyl‐7‐hydroxycoumarin derivatives (CUM1‐4) with serum albumin (bovine serum albumin [BSA] and human serum albumin [HSA]) have been studied employing ultraviolet‐visible (UV‐Vis), fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, and molecular docking methods at physiological pH 7.4. The fluorescence quenching occurred with increasing concentration of CUMs, and the binding constant of CUM derivatives with BSA and HSA obtained from fluorescence quenching experiment was found to be ~ 104 L mol?1. CD study showed conformational changes in the secondary structure of serum albumin upon titration of CUMs. The observed experimental results were further validated by theoretical studies involving density functional theory (DFT) and molecular docking.  相似文献

Broiler diets are frequently fortified with vitamin D (D3) above the recommended levels in an attempt to prevent commonly occurring leg problems. Since the basal levels of dietary D3 are rarely known, there is a risk of over-supplementation. Over-supplementation of D3 has been shown to have detrimental effects on the heart. Sudden death syndrome (SDS) is a condition commonly observed in broiler flocks and is associated with acute heart failure. The present study examines the effects of excessive levels of vitamin D3 on cardiac health in fast growing broiler chickens. Commercial male broilers (Gallus gallus) were exposed to either a commercial diet or a commercial diet supplemented with D3. Throughout the trial all birds were monitored several times daily for overt signs of heart disease, and periodically electrocardiographic measurements were obtained. Morbidity and mortality data were collected daily. On day 32 a simulated stress challenge consisting of a single injection of epinephrine (100 microg/kg BW) was administered under continuous ECG monitoring. Broilers fed the high D3 diet were 2.5 fold more likely to succumb to acute heart failure and die of SDS (p<0.05). Electrocardiographic examination showed a higher rate of cardiac arrhythmia in birds fed the high D3 diet (22.6%), in comparison to those fed the control diet (11.8%). The stress challenge test revealed that broilers exposed to high dietary D3 were more susceptible to ventricular arrhythmia. Our findings indicate that over-supplementation of vitamin D increases the risk of SDS in broilers, and that the most likely mechanism is associated with increased susceptibility of the ventricular myocardium to arrhythmia.  相似文献

Background

Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health problem in Nepal. Strain variation in Mycobacterium tuberculosis may influence the outcome of TB infection and disease. To date, the phylogenetic diversity of M. tuberculosis in Nepal is unknown.

Methods and Findings

We analyzed 261 M. tuberculosis isolates recovered from pulmonary TB patients recruited between August 2009 and August 2010 in Nepal. M. tuberculosis lineages were determined by single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) typing and spoligotyping. Drug resistance was determined by sequencing the hot spot regions of the relevant target genes. Overall, 164 (62.8%) TB patients were new, and 97 (37.2%) were previously treated. Any drug resistance was detected in 50 (19.2%) isolates, and 16 (6.1%) were multidrug-resistant. The most frequent M. tuberculosis lineage was Lineage 3 (CAS/Delhi) with 106 isolates (40.6%), followed by Lineage 2 (East-Asian lineage, includes Beijing genotype) with 84 isolates (32.2%), Lineage 4 (Euro-American lineage) with 41 (15.7%) isolates, and Lineage 1 (Indo-Oceanic lineage) with 30 isolates (11.5%). Based on spoligotyping, we found 45 different spoligotyping patterns that were previously described. The Beijing (83 isolates, 31.8%) and CAS spoligotype (52, 19.9%) were the dominant spoligotypes. A total of 36 (13.8%) isolates could not be assigned to any known spoligotyping pattern. Lineage 2 was associated with female sex (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.58, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.42–4.67, p = 0.002), and any drug resistance (aOR 2.79; 95% CI 1.43–5.45; p = 0.002). We found no evidence for an association of Lineage 2 with age or BCG vaccination status.

Conclusions

We found a large genetic diversity of M. tuberculosis in Nepal with representation of all four major lineages. Lineages 3 and 2 were dominating. Lineage 2 was associated with clinical characteristics. This study fills an important gap on the map of the M. tuberculosis genetic diversity in the Asian region.  相似文献

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are promising carbonaceous nanomaterials fortuitously discovered in 2004. CQDs are the rising stars in the nanotechnology ensemble because of their unique properties and widespread applications in sensing, imaging, medicine, catalysis, and optoelectronics. CQDs are notable for their excellent solubility and effective luminescence and, as a result, they are also known as carbon nanolights. Many strategies are used for the efficient and economical preparation of CQDs; however, CQDs prepared from waste or green sustainable methods have greater requirements due to their safety and ease of synthesis. Sustainable chemical strategies for CQDs have been developed, emphasizing green synthetic methodologies based on ‘top-down’ and ‘bottom-up’ approaches. This review summarizes many such studies relevant to the development of sustainable methods for photoluminescent CQDs. Furthermore, we have emphasized recent advances in CQDs' photoluminescence applications in chemical and biological fields. Finally, a brief overview of synthetic processes using the green source and their associated applications are tabulated, providing a clear understanding of the new optoelectronic materials.  相似文献
