Surface features, anatomy, and ultrastructure of the floral nectary of Eccremocarpus scaber (Bignoniaceae), pollinated predominantly by the largest-known hummingbird (Patagona gigas gigas), were studied together with nectar sugar content and secretion rate. The annular disk nectary comprises epidermis, secretory and ground parenchyma with intercellular spaces, and branched vascular bundles terminating in the secretory parenchyma where only phloem is found. Amyloplasts and vacuoles increase in size throughout development, the latter becoming sites of organelle degradation. Transferlike cells in nectary phloem and P-proteinlike fibrillar material in phloem parenchyma were observed. Flowers produced around 32 μl of nectar (mostly after anthesis) with 11 mg of sugar composed of fructose, glucose, sucrose, and maltose in a ratio of 0.34:0.32:0.17:0.17. Morphological studies as well as the presence of maltose and glucose in nectar suggest storage of the originally phloem-derived sugars as starch with its subsequent hydrolysis. The low sucrose/hexose ratio (0.25) and high nectary secretion force (nectar per flower biomass) observed places E. scaber close to large-bodied bat-pollinated plants. The cyst banks of 6 coastal hypersaline lakes of South-East Europe have been investigated. The study concerned the bottom sediments of Khersonesskoe and Koyashskoe lakes in the Crimea (Ukraine), Nartë saltworks (Albania), Vecchia Salina at Torre Colimena (Apulia, Italy), Pantano Grande and Pantano Roveto at Vendicari (Sicily, Italy). A total of 19 cyst types were recognised. The cyst banks of lakes were found to be well separated in the representation derived from a statistical multivariate data analysis. For all the lakes examined a comparison was possible between the resting community in sediments (cyst bank) and the active one in the water. The cyst banks contained more species than those recorded over a multi-year sampling effort in the water column. The study of cyst hatching, performed on 5 cyst types under lab conditions, demonstrated that cysts do not hatch under the same conditions. Furthermore, each cyst type shows a wide range of preferential hatching conditions, which allow us to confirm the ecological generalism of salt lake species. 相似文献

Biogeography of the family Acartiidae (Calanoida) in the Ponto-Mediterranean Province 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In the Ponto-Mediterranean Province, the geographical distribution of 19 species plus 1 variety belonging to the family Acartiidae has been studied. The study utilised cartographic techniques of terrestrial biogeography and the entire Province was subdivided in 1375 squares. The geographic distributions obtained derived from data published during the last 126 years. The first result was that about 3/4 of the area considered has never been sampled, and only about 8% of the entire area has been repeatedly sampled (at least seasonally). Long time-series of sampling are known only from very few sites. The species considered belong to three genera. Species distributions are discontinuous either in space or in time. Three species are endemic. The historical analysis suggests that four species arrived in the Province recently (two of them are Lessepsian migrants; the others have been introduced by human activities). Two species appear to have crossed the Suez Canal from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea (anti-Lessepsian migration). Two species are considered to be ante-Lessepsian (they were tropical species present in the Mediterranean before the Suez Canal opening). The doubtful presence of two species in the Mediterranean is discussed. At the present time, it seems that the distribution of many species is rapidly changing, probably as a consequence of the anthropogenic influence on communication between areas of the Province, and supported by the ability of Acartiidae to cross geographic barriers, mainly as resting stages. 相似文献
