Numerical calculations are used to determine not only the wall shear stress but also the entry length in a laminar steady flow of an incompressible Newtonian fluid. The fluid is conveyed through rigid straight tubes with axially uniform cross sections, which mimic collapsed vessels. For each tube configuration, the "Navier-Stokes" equations are solved using the finite element method. The numerical tests are performed with the same value of the volume flow-rate whatever the tube configuration for three "Reynolds numbers". The wall shear stress is computed and determined along the axis of the tube, then the entry length is estimated by introducing two indexes by using: (i) the axial fluid velocity, and (ii) the wall shear stress. The results are analysed in order to exhibit the mechanical environment of cultured endothelial cells in the flow chamber for which the test conditions will be well-defined. For example, in a tube configuration where the opposite walls are in contact for which the inner perimeter and the area of the cross section are respectively given by 45 mm and 37.02 mm(2), the computed entry lengths with the criteria defined by (i) and (ii) are equals to about 118 and 126 mm, respectively for R(e0) = 500.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to chemically modify the surface of chitin whiskers and to investigate the effect of the incorporation of these modified whiskers into a natural rubber (NR) matrix on the properties of the ensuing nanocomposite. Different chemical coupling agents were tested, namely, phenyl isocyanate (PI), alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) (Accosize 18 from American Cyanamid), and 3-isopropenyl-alpha,alpha'-dimethylbenzyl isocyanate (TMI). The extent of chemical modification was evaluated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and surface energy analysis. After chemical modification, nanocomposite films were obtained using a toluene natural rubber solution in which the whiskers were dispersed. Their mechanical properties were found to be inferior to those of unmodified chitin/NR composites presented in our previous study. In fact, even though there is an increase in filler-matrix interaction as a result of chemical modification of the chitin whiskers, this does not contribute to the improvement in the mechanical properties of the resulting nanocomposite. It is concluded that this loss of performance is due to the partial destruction of the three-dimensional network of chitin whiskers assumed to be present in the unmodified composites.  相似文献

Ready-to-eat minimally processed fruits and vegetables are an ideal substrate for the growth of microorganisms, including human pathogens and mycotoxin-producing species, which question their quality and safety for customers. While we are aware of the importance of production workflows in structuring the products' microbial communities, we still know little about the factors that shape microbiomes during the timeframe products are available to customers, and beyond this timeframe. Here, we study the influence of storage light condition (light or dark) on microbiological and physico-chemical parameters of minimally processed rocket leaves at different shelf life timepoints (the day the product becomes available to consumers, expiration date, 3 days after the expiration date). Our results suggest that the total microbial load increases from the day the product becomes available to consumers, to the expiry date and after the product's expiration. However, when studying the composition of the fungal microbiome, we did not observe significant changes in its structure as the effect of product shelf life or storage light condition. We also found that products stored under light condition had a higher total bacterial load compared to those stored in darkness. Our results might be helpful in crafting improved workflows for product's storage during its shelf life, which might ultimately lead to a re-evaluation of storage times resulting in reduced food waste due to product spoilage or expiration.  相似文献

The demineralized bone matrix (DBM) putty is a traditional bone graft utilized to facilitate the repair and reconstruction of bone. Recent studies indicated the DBM putties with the various carriers were different in bone repairing ability. In order to prepare a kind of DBM putty with a good biocompatibility and bioactivity, the DBM gel was processed from the DBM and the feasibility as a carrier for the DBM putty was evaluated. After the bovine DBM gel was prepared, the BMPs content as well as the ability to promote osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells in vitro were investigated. Then the DBM putty was prepared and filled into the rat calvarial defect model to evaluate the bone repairing ability by micro-CT and histology. The result showed there was 2.953?±?0.054 ng BMP contained in per gram of the DBM gel. And the ALP production of MC3T3-E1 cells in the DBM gels group increased with prolonged culturing, the mineralized nodules formed in MC3T3-E1 cells on 14th day after co-culture. The putty prepared by DBM gel was easy to handle without loss of DBM particles at room temperature. In the rat calvarial bone defect experiment, histological observation showed more mature bone formed in the DBM putty group than that in the type I collagen group at 12 weeks, which indicated the bone putty prepared by DBM gel exhibited a better bone repair capability.  相似文献

凋落物分解在陆地生态系统养分循环与能量流动中具有重要作用,是碳、氮及其他重要矿质养分在生态系统生命组分间循环与平衡的核心生态过程。自然生态系统中,植物群落大多具有较高的物种丰富度和多样性,其混合凋落物在分解过程中也更有可能发生养分传递、化学抑制等种间互作,形成多样化的分解生境,多样性较高的分解者类群以及复杂的级联效应分解,这些因素和过程均对研究混合凋落物分解过程、揭示其内在机制形成了极大的挑战。从构成混合凋落物物种丰富度和多样性对分解生境、分解者多样性及其营养级联效应的影响等方面,综合阐述混合凋落物对陆地生态系统凋落物分解的影响,探讨生物多样性在凋落物分解中的作用。通过综述近些年的研究发现,有超过60%的混合凋落物对其分解速率的影响存在正向或负向的效应。养分含量有差异的凋落物混合分解过程中,分解者优先利用高质量凋落物,使低质量的凋落物反而具有了较高的养分有效性,引起低质量凋落物分解加快并最终使混合凋落物整体分解速率加快;而凋落物物种丰富度对土壤动物群落总多度有轻微的影响或几乎没有影响,但是对线虫和大型土壤动物的群落组成和多样性有显著影响,并随着分解阶段呈现一定动态变化;混合凋落物改变土壤微生物生存的理化环境,为微生物提供更多丰富的分解底物和养分,优化微生物种群数量和群落结构及其分泌酶的活性,并进一步促进了混合凋落物的分解。这些基于植物-土壤-分解者系统的动态分解过程的研究,表明混合凋落物分解作用不只是经由凋落物自身质量的改变,更会通过逐级影响分解者多样性水平而进一步改变分解速率和养分释放动态,说明生物多样性确实在一定程度上调控凋落物分解及其养分释放过程。  相似文献

In dry areas, natural plant communities are mainly affected by climatic stress and human disturbances – overgrazing, ploughing and biomass harvesting – that accelerate their degradation. Management techniques, including creation of national parks (fencing), are needed to conserve natural resources/biodiversity. The long‐term effects of protection on the plant communities should be monitored. This study assessed the results of long‐term protection on the composition and diversity of the natural plant communities of Sidi Toui National Park (southern Tunisia) using the point‐quadrat method and ecological indicators of the ecosystem structure. Comparison of these indicators for the period 1990–2011 inside (fenced) and outside (disturbed) the Park showed that regeneration of natural vegetation increased during the first decade of the fencing period (1990–2001), but declined during the period (2008–2011). After a long period of fencing, plant tufts were bigger and aged, and the ecosystem dynamics decreased. In the absence of animal activities, the hardpan at the soil surface impedes seedling emergence. This suggests that long‐term fencing is not recommended for conserving floral diversity in dryland ecosystems. To ensure and maintain the regeneration of these ecosystems, fencing periods alternating with controlled grazing (by introducing wild herbivores) are recommended.  相似文献
