Neodryinus typhlocybae (Hymenoptera: Dryinidae) is a natural enemy of the planthopper Metcalfa pruinosa, which was introduced from North America into Europe and has become established in various regions as a pest species. Vibrational signals play a crucial role in the communication of M. pruinosa, which appears to be exploited by N. typhlocybae. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy have shown that the antennae of N. typhlocybae females have peculiar and complex sensory structures: deep longitudinal grooves that house long sensilla trichodea, termed here “Antennal Dorsal Organs.” Such structures were not present on male antennae. These sensilla extend for the length of the grooves, without contact with the groove cuticle. Their hair shaft is empty and aporous, and inserted into a specialized socket, underneath which there is a cuticular ampulla‐like chamber. Each sensillum is associated with two sensory neurons: one terminates at the proximal end of the dendritic sheath; the other continues into the sensillum sinus and is enclosed in the dendritic sheath. This second sensory neuron then enters the ampulla‐like chamber through the circular opening, and then terminates with a conspicuous tubular body at the shaft base. Selection is the major force affecting local levels of genetic variation in species. The availability of dense marker maps offers new opportunities for a detailed understanding of genetic diversity distribution across the animal genome. Over the last 50 years, cattle breeds have been subjected to intense artificial selection. Consequently, regions controlling traits of economic importance are expected to exhibit selection signatures. The fixation index (Fst) is an estimate of population differentiation, based on genetic polymorphism data, and it is calculated using the relationship between inbreeding and heterozygosity. In the present study, locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (LOWESS) regression and a control chart approach were used to investigate selection signatures in two cattle breeds with different production aptitudes (dairy and beef). Fst was calculated for 42 514 SNP marker loci distributed across the genome in 749 Italian Brown and 364 Piedmontese bulls. The statistical significance of Fst values was assessed using a control chart. The LOWESS technique was efficient in removing noise from the raw data and was able to highlight selection signatures in chromosomes known to harbour genes affecting dairy and beef traits. Examples include the peaks detected for BTA2 in the region where the myostatin gene is located and for BTA6 in the region harbouring the ABCG2 locus. Moreover, several loci not previously reported in cattle studies were detected.  相似文献

Using recombinant tetanus toxin HC fragment (rTT-HC) as carrier, we prepared multimeric bivalent immunogens featuring the synthetic hexasaccharide fragment of O-PS of Vibrio cholerae O:1, serotype Ogawa, in combination with either the synthetic hexasaccharide fragment of O-PS of Vibrio cholerae O:1, serotype Inaba, or a synthetic disaccharide tetrapeptide peptidoglycan fragment as adjuvant. The conjugation reaction was effected by squaric acid chemistry and monitored in virtually real time by SELDI-TOF MS. In this way, we could prepare well-defined immunogens with predictable carbohydrate–carrier ratio, whose molecular mass and the amount of each saccharide attached could be independently determined. The ability to prepare such neoglycoconjugates opens unprecedented possibilities for preparation of conjugate vaccines for bacterial diseases from synthetic carbohydrates.  相似文献

HLA class 11 molecules were isolated from mouse L cells transfected with a DR gene and an allele, 52a, of locus DR III from an HLA-homozygous cell line, AVL, of the DR3 haplotype. The isolated molecules were found to possess a new allospecificity, named TR81. This specificity behaved allelic to the previously described DR III locus. The TR81 specificity was also present on the DR I gene product of the DR3 haplotype. The nucleotide sequence of the gene encoding TR81 differs from TR81-negative DR genes of the DRw52 family in only two codons, both located in the regions known to be involved in a gene conversion event. Consequently, the following conclusions can be formulated. (a) TR81 is a bi-locus specificity and allelic to TR22 only in its DR III locus localization. (b) The TR81 specificity is the phenotypic counterpart of the gene conversion event which led to the generation of the DR I gene of the DR3 haplotype. (c) One or both individual amino acid substitutions in the first domain of the DR chain are responsible for the TR81 allospecificity. (d) Since TR81 is expressed on the DR I chain of the DR3 haplotype, it is possible that TR81 and DR3 represent the same serological specificity.  相似文献

We propose a nomenclature for the genes encoding the chlorophylla/b-binding proteins of the light-harvesting complexes of photosystem I and II. The genes encoding LHC I and LHC II polypeptides are namedLhca1 throughLhca4 andLhcb1 throughLhcb6, respectively. The proposal follows the general format recommended by the Commision on Plant Gene Nomenclature. We also present a table for the conversion of old gene names to the new nomenclature.  相似文献

Ethylene may be one of the many factors that play a role in rooting. However, in some studies ethylene promoted rooting, while in others it was inhibitory or had no effect. Using cotyledons of hazelnut ( Corylus avellana L. cv. Casina) observations were made of the effect of ethylene precursors on adventitious root formation. l-methionine (Met) or 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) added to a standard indole-3-butyric acid (IBA)-kinetin-containing medium did not enhance rooting, while 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (CEPA) did. The ethylene inhibitor, aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG), inhibited root formation, but its effect was reversed by ACC when cotyledonary segments were transferred to rhizogenic medium plus ACC at day 10. Ethylene production by cotyledons cultured on rhizogenic medium or rhizogenic medium plus CEPA was high at the beginning of rooting. Thus, the wound-induced ethylene is a key stimulatory factor in the formation of root primordia. The data support the hypothesis that ethylene plays a positive role in root formation.  相似文献

Detection of complex alleles by direct analysis of DNA heteroduplexes   总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0  
DNA molecules derived from three alleles of the HLA-DRB3 locus and differing from each other at several nucleotide sites were denatured and cross-hybridized. Each allelic combination was found to generate a pair of heteroduplexes of different mobility. Their retardation as compared to homoduplexes was proportional to the number of mismatches. In each heteroduplexes pair the component possessing the highest number of Pyr-Pyr oppositions was the most retarded. The results are those predicted by a theoretical model implying a correlation between base-pair opening and bending of the DNA double helix. These observations introduce a new HLA typing method at the genomic level and indicate an experimental approach to the analysis of the superhelical DNA conformation as related to different types of base oppositions.  相似文献

Lipid extracts of the red algaGracilaria longa were studied by1H- and13C-NMR spectroscopy. Peaks in the13C-NMR spectra attributable to sterols, chlorophylls and carotenoids allowed free and acylated cholesterol, chlorophylla and lutein to be identified as the most abundant components of these classes. A content of 0.5 ± 0.1 μmoles of total cholesterol/g wet alga was estimated from the1H-NMR spectrum, which also allowed the determination of the phosphatidylcholine/total lipid molar ratio (9.5 ± 0.5%). The13C-NMR spectroscopic experiments provided information on the position of the double bonds on the fatty acid residues. A comparison between NMR spectra of lipid extracts obtained for wet and dried alga showed that the alga undergoes both a dramatic peroxidation and some glycolipid degradation during the drying process.  相似文献
