Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) is a selenoperoxidase accounting for most of the selenium content in mammalian testis, which has been found to be linked to fertility in humans. In this study, we addressed the issue whether PHGPx content in spermatozoa could be a predictive index of fertilization capacity for sire selection in bulls. Measurement of PHGPx in spermatozoa of 92 yearling bulls of three different Italian breeds (Chianina, Romagnola, and Marchigiana) revealed the presence of two quite well separated populations. A PHGPx activity of 130 mU/mg separated the high-PHGPx group (H-PHGPx, n = 73) from the low-PHGPx group (L-PHGPx, n = 19). Forward motility was markedly higher in the H-PHGPx group, which also contained a lower percentage of detached heads, abnormal midpiece, and proximal droplets. On the other hand, differently from the human studies, no correlation was observed between PHGPx activity and number of spermatozoa in the ejaculate. Apart from sperm count, which typically differed among breeds, and number of detached heads in the L-PHGPx group, which correlated with higher sperm count, no other significant difference in seminal parameters among breeds was apparent. The clinical examination of the cardiovascular systems efficiency based on methods of control theory demands favourable input signals and suitable response characteristics. In this paper by means of modelling it was intended to find aspects, which should allow to evaluate several test methods with regard to their correspondence to specific claims. A control model used for this purpose represents the baroceptor control of systemic arterial pressure by physical workload. Its alterations were considered in step, stair, ramp, and sinusoidal form. According to a judgement founded on theoretical and practical aspects, the aperiodic input changes prove to be advantageous. A method for the determination of isonicotinic acid hydrazide (isoniazid) in milk was developed. Milk was deproteinized with trichloroacetic acid. Isoniazid was condensed with cinnamaldehyde and assayed on a reversed-phase HPLC system, with good sensitivity and accuracy (10 μg/l) with UV detection at 330 nm. Use of solid-phase extraction with a C18 cartridge allows the detection limit to be lowered to 0.1 μg/l with UV detection and confirmation of isoniazid hydrazone from the diode-array UV spectrum. 相似文献

The h-PRL-1 gene codes for a new phosphotyrosine phosphatase that may play an important role in the control of basic cellular
processes such as cell growth and proliferation. Using the cDNA of the h-PRL-1 gene as a probe, we examined a somatic mouse
and hamster × human hybrid panel and found that chromosomes 1, 17 and 11 harbor sequences homologous to h-PRL-1. By in situ hybridization of metaphase spreads, subchromosomal localizations were determined at bands 1p35–p34, 17q12– q21 and 11q24–q25;
in addition, a faint signal was detected at 12q24. The chromosomal assignment of the genes homologous to h-PRL-1 will help
the investigation of its possible involvement in human diseases involving genetic alteration at these chromosomal regions.

Turnover of 32P-labelled phosphatidylinositol (PI) was examined in isolated adrenal glomerulosa cells. Increased incorporation of [32P]phosphate into PI in response to angiotensin II was completely prevented by Li+. A simultaneous accumulation of 32P activity in phosphatidic acid (PA) was also observed. Angiotensin II increased the breakdown of PI despite the presence of Li+. These results suggest that Li is a suitable tool to interrupt the accelerated PI cycle in angiotensin-stimulated cells. Aldosterone production of superfused cells was inhibited by Li+ when the cells were stimulated with angiotensin II. On the other hand, Li+ did not inhibit the aldosterone response of the cells to ACTH, a hormone which acts via cyclic AMP and does not enhance PI turnover in these cells. On the basis of these results, we assume that the inhibitory effect of Li+ on aldosterone production is related to its effect on PI turnover. 相似文献
