The properties of genetic networks based on a variant of Jacob-Monod type feedback-repression have been examined using digital computer simulation. Single gene loops do not seem feasible as oscillators, but networks with an odd number of genes connected cyclically oscillate over a wide range of conditions.  相似文献

Acquired tolerance for a quaternary ammonium compound produced a tolerance for a similar compound. Tolerance was associated with the structure and the extent of adsorption of the compound. Morphological changes and resistance to disruption by pressure and by sonic treatment accompanied the development of tolerance. An otherwise weakened culture evolved with the acquisition of tolerance. The maximum obtainable viable population density of tolerant cells in growth medium was approximately 5% of that obtained in the parent culture. Tolerant cultures died off more rapidly in the original growth medium as well as when washed cell suspensions were stored at 5 C. Since acquired tolerance was associated with an otherwise weakened culture, the occurrence of the tolerant cells to limit the efficacy of quaternary ammonium compounds in sanitation operations is highly unlikely.  相似文献

In the present paper the frequencies of individuals without middle phalangeal hair was found as 55.75% in the Tibetan males and 68.61% in females. Sex differences were noticed in the present sample. Populations of Mongoloid affinity seems to have a marked increase in the frequency of individuals without phalangeal hair and the present Tibetan sample reflects this tendency.  相似文献

The dry weight loss and chemical changes during the process of decomposition of two types of litters viz.; pine (Pinus kesiya Royle) needles and teak (Tectona grandis L.) leaves have been studied in a small freshwater lake using plastic net (1 mm pore size) bags. The results reveal that type of litter and depth of water were the most important factors regulating the rate of decomposition. The percentage composition of cellulose and hemicellulose showed little variation and only a minor fall was noted in their values towards the end of the study period. The lignin percentage increased steadily at all the stations except the deepest station. The sugar and amino acid concentration dropped appreciably during the initial phase and stabilised during later periods. The general trend of change in nitrogen percentage was initial fall - increase - fall - stabilisation at a near original value. The rate of decomposition was faster when compared with similar studies in Canada and Europe.  相似文献

Summary The range and mean protein content of autotetraploids of high-lysine Notch-2 mutants of barley were consistently higher than the diploids in C3 and C4 generations of colchicine treated seeds. Amino acid analysis of whole grain meal of diploid Notch-2 and one strain of its autotetraploid revealed differences in the amino acid composition. The proportion of albumin in the diploid and the autotetraploid Notch-2 was higher by 21% and 45% respectively, in comparison to the parent N.P. 113, whereas the glutelin fraction was significantly higher in the autotetraploid. The autotetraploid, with increased glutelin and decreased prolamin, showed no increase in lysine. It is possible that the recessive high-lysine gene may be lacking dosage effect, resulting in no increase in lysine in the autotetraploid, whereas protein content, a polygenically controlled trait, is enhanced due to genome duplication.  相似文献

Mass spectral data of a phytosterolin and its tetraacetate from Trianthema pentandra show that sitosterol-d(+)-glucoside reported earlier1 was a mixture of sitosteroI-d(+)-glucoside and stigmasterol-d(+)-glucoside. The structure of a ketone has been suggested as nonacos-1-en-4-one, on the basis of physicochemical data. The positions of the double bond and the carbonyl group have been established by MS and NMR data. This is the first report in plants of a C29 ketone with a terminal double bond and carbonyl group at position 4.  相似文献

2'-Amino-2'-deoxyadenosine and 2'-chloro-2'-deoxycoformycin (2'-CldCF) are two nucleoside antibiotics produced by Actinomadura. The biosynthesis of these two nucleoside antibiotics has been studied by the addition of [U-14C]adenosine with or without unlabeled adenine to cultures of Actinomadura. By this experimental approach, it is possible to demonstrate that adenosine is the direct precursor for the biosynthesis of 2'-amino-2'-deoxyadenosine and 2'-CldCF. These conclusions are based on the observation that the percentage distribution of 14C in the aglyconic and pentofuranosyl moieties of 2'-amino-2'-deoxyadenosine and 2'-CldCF were similar to the distribution of 14C in the adenine and ribosyl moieties of the [U-14C]adenosine (i.e., 48:52) added to cultures of Actinomadura. Experimentally, the percentage distribution of 14C in the (i) adenine:2-amino-2-deoxy-beta-D-ribofuranose of 2'-amino-2'-deoxyadenosine is 51:49; (ii) 8-(R)-3,6,7,8-tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d]-[1,3-diazepin-8-o1]:2 -chloro-2- beta-D-ribofuranose of 2'-CldCF is 45:55; and (iii) adenine:ribose of the adenosine isolated from the RNA of Actinomadura is 42:58. Further proof that adenosine is the direct precursor for the biosynthesis 2'-amino-2'-deoxyadenosine and 2'-CldCF was demonstrated by the addition of 75 mumol of unlabeled adenine together with [U-14C]adenosine to nucleoside-producing cultures of Actinomadura. The percentage distribution of 14C in the aglycon and the sugar moieties of 2'-amino-2'-deoxyadenosine and 2'-CldCF were 46:54 and 47:53, respectively; the percentage distribution of 14C in the adenine and ribose moieties of the adenosine isolated from the RNA of Actinomadura was 51:49. These data show that the hydroxyl on C-2' of the ribosyl moiety of adenosine undergoes a replacement by a 2'-amino or a 2'-chloro group to form 2'-amino-2'-deoxyadenosine or 2'-CldCF with retention of stereconfiguration at C-2'. Finally, Actinomadura can utilize inorganic chloride from the medium as demonstrated by the isolation of [36Cl]2'-CldCF following the addition of [36Cl]chloride to the culture medium. Mechanisms for the regioselective modification of the C-2' hydroxyl group and stereospecific insertion of the amino and chloro groups are discussed.  相似文献
