A methodology for the modeling of unsteady heat conduction in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) during its exothermic polymerization is presented. The emphasis is on the formulation of a model for the volumetric rate of heat generation, including its temperature-dependent characteristics. Three parameters appear in the proposed model. The empirical determination of these parameters using Differential Scanning Calorimetry is demonstrated. The incorporation of the proposed model into finite volume methods is also demonstrated, in the context of unsteady, one-dimensional, radial heat conduction in cylindrical coordinates. In addition, the application of the proposed model to two test problems is presented and discussed. The results are encouraging, and the proposed methodology appears to be applicable to the thermal modeling of exothermic polymerization processes in general. 相似文献

A rapid and sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method has been developed and validated for the estimation of rivastigmine in human plasma. Rivastigmine was extracted from human plasma by using solid-phase extraction technique. Zolpidem was used as the internal standard. A Betabasic-8 column provided chromatographic separation of analytes followed by detection with mass spectrometry. The mass transition ion-pair was followed as m/z 251.20-->206.10, 86.20 for rivastigmine and m/z 308.10-->235.10 for zolpidem. The method involves a rapid solid-phase extraction from plasma, simple isocratic chromatographic conditions and mass spectrometric detection that enables detection at sub-nanogram levels. The proposed method has been validated for a linear range of 0.2-20.0 ng/ml with a correlation coefficient > or =0.9988. The intra-run and inter-run precision and accuracy were within 10.0%. The overall recoveries for rivastigmine and zolpidem were 86.28% and 87.57%, respectively. The total run time was 2.0 min. The developed method was applied for the determination of the pharmacokinetic parameters of rivastigmine following a single oral administration of a 3 mg rivastigmine capsule in 20 healthy male volunteers. 相似文献

Poly(A)-containing RNA was isolated from rat liver microsomes and from the post-microsomal supernatant fraction. Approximately 15% of total rat liver poly(A)-containing RNA was found to be present in the post-microsomal supernatant. The relative capacity for apoferritin synthesis of each poly(A)-containing RNA preparation was measured in a cell-free system derived from wheat germ. The post-microsomal supernatant fraction was found to be highly enriched with ferritin mRNA and accounted for 40–50% of the total ferritin-mRNA present in the cytoplasm of rat liver. 相似文献

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is a fundamental energetic trait and has been measured in hundreds of birds and mammals. Nevertheless, little is known about the consistency of the population-average BMR or its repeatability at the level of individual variation. Here, we report that average mass-independent BMR did not differ between two generations of bank voles or between two trials separated by one month. Individual differences in BMR were highly repeatable across the one month interval: the coefficient of intraclass correlation was 0.70 for absolute log-transformed values and 0.56 for mass-independent values. Thus, BMR can be a meaningful measure of an individual physiological characteristic and can be used to test hypotheses concerning relationships between BMR and other traits. On the other hand, mass-independent BMR did not differ significantly across families, and the coefficient of intraclass correlation for full sibs did not differ from zero, which suggests that heritability of BMR in voles is not high. 相似文献

Halobacterium species display a variety of responses to light, including phototrophic growth, phototactic behavior, and photoprotective
mechanisms. The complete genome sequence of Halobacterium species NRC-1 (Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 97: 12176–12181, 2000), coupled with the availability of a battery of methods for its
analysis makes this an ideal model system for studying photobiology among the archaea. Here, we review: (1) the structure
of the 2.57 Mbp Halobacterium NRC-1 genome, including a large chromosome, two minichromosomes, and 91 transposable IS elements; (2) the purple membrane
regulon, which programs the accumulation of large quantities of the light-driven proton pump, bacteriorhodopsin, and allows
for a period of phototrophic growth; (3) components of the sophisticated pathways for color-sensitive phototaxis; (4) the
gas vesicle gene cluster, which codes for cell buoyancy organelles; (5) pathways for the production of carotenoid pigments
and retinal, (6) processes for the repair of DNA damage; and (7) putative homologs of circadian rhythm regulators. We conclude
with a discussion of the power of systems biology for comprehensive understanding of Halobacterium NRC-1 photobiology.
