Sera from 186 sheep, 83 cattle, and 103 water buffaloes from Punjab, India, were evaluated for antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii using a commercial ELISA kit. This study was planned using a 2-stage random sampling procedure and sampling software 'survey toolbox.' In the first step, villages were selected randomly from a sampling frame of all the villages of Punjab, followed by selection of owners and animals in the second step. Antibodies to T. gondii were found in 7 of 186 sheep, 2 of 83 cattle, and 3 of 103 buffaloes. Results indicate a low prevalence of T. gondii in ruminants tested.  相似文献

The crystal structure of the S189D+A226G rat chymotrypsin-B mutant has been determined at 2.2 angstroms resolution. This mutant is the most trypsin-like mutant so far in the line of chymotrypsin-to-trypsin conversions, aiming for a more complete understanding of the structural basis of substrate specificity in pancreatic serine proteases. A226G caused significant rearrangements relative to S189D chymotrypsin, allowing an internal conformation of Asp189 which is close to that in trypsin. Serious distortions remain, however, in the activation domain, including zymogen-like features. The pH-profile of activity suggests that the conformation of the S1-site of the mutant is influenced also by the P1 residue of the substrate.  相似文献

The discovery of nonsynaptic communication in the 1960s and 1970s was an important milestone in investigating the function of the nervous system, and it revolutionized our view about information transmission between neurons. In addition, nonsynaptic communication has a practical importance not only within the nervous system, but in the communication between the peripheral nervous system and other organ systems. Nonsynaptic communication takes place in different immune organs, which are innervated by sympathetic nerve terminals. In addition, the function of microglia, one of the immunocompetent cell types of the brain, can also be affected by neurotransmitters released from axon varicosities. The various functions of immune cells are modulated by released neurotransmitters without any direct synaptic contact between nerve endings and targeted immune cells requiring only functional neurotransmitter receptors on immune cells. Here, we briefly overview the role of the various receptor subtypes mediating nonsynaptic modulation of the function of immunocompetent cells both in the periphery and in the central nervous system.  相似文献

Forty Molinietalia communities were analyzed from the phytogeographical point of view in order to establish their distribution tendencies in Czechoslovakia in relation to the floristic regions of Hercynicum, Pannonicum and Carpaticum. Only few moist meadow communities of the Molinietalia order are found in the whole area under study; most of them have their distribution center in one of the floristic regions mentioned above. Eleven Calthion and two Molinion associations are confined to the Hercynicum, eight of them strictly. It is only in the Moravian and Slovak Pannonicum that all associations of the alliances Cnidion venosi and Veronico longifoliae-Lysimachion occur; they appear there together with two Molinion communities, the distribution of which is, however, a little wider. Three Calthenion communities show a still wider distribution, extending into the adjoining areas. One Calthenion community occurs in the Bohemian Pannonicum and its surroundings, two Calthenion associations have their distribution center in the Carpaticum, but they are not strictly confined to it.The author wants to express her thanks to Doc. A set of scaling feedforward filters is developed in an unsupervised way via inputting pixel-discretized extended objects into a winner-take-all artificial neural network. The system discretizes the input space by both position and size. Depending on the distribution of input samples and below a certain number of neurons the spatial filters may form groups of similar filter sizes with each group covering the whole input space in a quasi-uniform fashion. Thus a multi-discretizing system may be formed. Interneural connections of scaling filters are also developed with the help of extended objects. It is shown both theoretically and with the help of numerical simulation that competitive Hebbian learning is suitable for defining neighbours for the multi-discretizing system. Taking into account the neighbouring connections between filters of similar sizes only, i.e. within the groups of filters, the system may be considered as a self-organizing multi-grid system.  相似文献

Summary We analyzed DNA from 34 Polish and 63 Dutch cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and their families using the polymorphic markers XV2c and KM19, which are in linkage disequilibrium with the CF mutation. Strong linkage disequilibrium was found in the Dutch population sample, but the haplotypes of the Polish chromosomes showed a significantly less extreme disequilibrium. Our data and previous studies indicate that the highest degree of homogeneity of the CF defect and hence the best possible use of the XV2c/KM19/CF linkage disequilibrium for CF carrier detection/exclusion is in populations of northern European origin.  相似文献

Luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH), a hypothalamic neurohormone, forms a complex with Zn ions in solution. In order to explain the structure of this complex, the stability constants of Zn(II) complexes of LHRH and also pyroglutamyl-histidine-methylester, N-acetyl-histamine, and N-acetyl-histidine were established with the use of potentiometric technique. The nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy shows that the mode of coordination of Zn(II) to LHRH consists of binding to the imidazole nitrogen and the peptide oxygen of the His-Trp bond.  相似文献
