Current fossil, genetic, and archeological data indicate that Homo sapiens originated in Africa in the late Middle Pleistocene. By the end of the Late Pleistocene, our species was distributed across every continent except Antarctica, setting the foundations for the subsequent demographic and cultural changes of the Holocene. The intervening processes remain intensely debated and a key theme in hominin evolutionary studies. We review archeological, fossil, environmental, and genetic data to evaluate the current state of knowledge on the dispersal of Homo sapiens out of Africa. The emerging picture of the dispersal process suggests dynamic behavioral variability, complex interactions between populations, and an intricate genetic and cultural legacy. This evolutionary and historical complexity challenges simple narratives and suggests that hybrid models and the testing of explicit hypotheses are required to understand the expansion of Homo sapiens into Eurasia. 相似文献

Both the type I and type III collagens present in embryonic dermis are stabilized by the intermolecular cross-link, hydroxylysino-5-oxonorleucine, derived from hydroxylysine-aldehyde, although the type I collagen possesses a significant proportion of dehydrohydroxylysinonorleucine. However, concurrent with the change in the proportion of the two types of collagen during postnatal development there is a change-over with both type I and III collagens to the labile cross-link, dehydrohydroxylysinonorleucine, derived from lysine aldehyde. The results indicate that the change in the nature of the cross-link with development is determined primarily by the change in the extent of hydroxylation of the lysine residues in the terminal non-helical regions rather than being due to the change in the type of collagen. 相似文献

Substance P, neurokinin A and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) were determined in the stomach and small intestine of rats during late foetal development and up to 35 days postnatal life. Concentrations of substance P in stomach and intestine increased from 14 gestational days to 3 days postpartum, and declined thereafter. Concentrations of neurokinin A in stomach declined from 14 days gestation over the period 3-35 postnatal days. In the intestine, concentrations of neurokinin A increased steadily from 14 days gestation to 21-35 postnatal days. Concentrations of CGRP in stomach and intestine declined from 14 days gestation to 7 postnatal days. Thereafter, concentrations of CGRP increased in both stomach and intestine. Total contents of each of the three peptides increased progressively with gestational and postnatal age in parallel with increasing stomach and intestinal weights. The results demonstrate different patterns of change in the concentrations of substance P, neurokinin A and CGRP during the dynamic phases of growth and maturation of the gastrointestinal tract in the foetal and postnatal rat. 相似文献

We examined the influence of riparian vegetation on macroinvertebrate community structure in streams of the Upper Thames River
watershed in southwestern Ontario. Thirty-three μ-basins (129–1458 ha) were used to identify land cover variables that influenced
stream macroinvertebrates. Micro-basins represented the entire drainage area of study streams and were similar in stream order
(first, second) and land cover (agricultural or forest; no urban). We described the structure and composition of riparian
vegetation and benthic macroinvertebrate communities at the outflow reach. The nature of the land cover was quantified for
the stream network buffer (30 m) and the whole μ-basin. The objective of this study was to measure the magnitude and nature
of the relationship between the riparian vegetation and benthic macroinvertebrate community at the outflow reach, stream network
buffer, and whole μ-basin scales. Taxon richness (including total number of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera taxa)
and Simpson’s diversity of the macroinvertebrate community all increased with increased tree cover in the riparian zone at
the outflow reach scale. Simpson’s equitability was lower with greater agricultural land cover in the stream network buffer.
No relationship between the macroinvertebrate community and land cover was found at the whole μ-basin scale. Analysis of the
influence of land cover on stream communities within a spatial hierarchy is important for understanding the interactions of

Microtubule (MT) length and location is tightly controlled in cells. One novel family of MT-associated proteins that regulates MT dynamics is the MT-severing enzymes. In this work, we investigate how katanin (p60), believed to be the first discovered severing enzyme, binds and severs MTs via single molecule total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy. We find that severing activity depends on katanin concentration. We also find that katanin can remove tubulin dimers from the ends of MTs, appearing to depolymerize MTs. Strikingly, katanin localizes and severs at the interface of GMPCPP-tubulin and GDP-tubulin suggesting that it targets to protofilament-shift defects. Finally, we observe that binding duration, mobility, and oligomerization are ATP dependent. 相似文献

Neutralizing antiviral antibodies are typically detected on the basis of inhibition of viral function, such as propagation of a viral infection or inhibition of viral gene expression. Evidence is presented that anti-adenovirus neutralizing antibodies can be evaluated by analysis of cell-associated capsids or by analysis of intracellular trafficking of the capsids within 1 h after infection. Background
Thus far, a handful of genes have been shown to be related to the wing maturation process in insects. A novel heme peroxidase enzyme known as curly suppressor (Cysu)(formerly CG5873), have been characterized in this report because it is involved in wing morphogenesis. Using bioinformatics tools we found that Cysu is remarkably conserved in the genus Drosophila (>95%) as well as in invertebrates (>70%), although its vertebrate orthologs show poor homology. Time-lapse imaging and histochemical analyses have confirmed that the defective wing phenotype of Cysu is not a result of any underlying cellular alterations; instead, its wings fail to expand in mature adults.Results
The precise requirement of Cysu in wings was established by identifying a bona fide mutant of Cysu from the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Centre collection. Its requirement in the wing has also been shown by RNA knockdown of the gene. Subsequent transgenic rescue of the mutant wing phenotype with the wild-type gene confirmed the phenotype resulting from Cysu mutant. With appropriate GAL4 driver like engrailed-GAL4, the Cysu phenotype was compartmentalized, which raises a strong possibility that Cysu is not localized in the extracellular matrix (ECM); hence, Cysu is not engaged in bonding the dorsal and ventral cuticular layers. Finally, shortened lifespan of the Cysu mutant suggests it is functionally essential for other biological processes as well.Conclusion
Cysu, a peroxinectin-like gene, is required during the wing maturation process in Drosophila because as a heme peroxidase, Cysu is capable of utilizing H2O2, which plays an essential role in post-eclosion wing morphogenesis.80.

The phylogeny and taxonomy of the drosophilids have been the subject of extensive investigations. Recently, Grimaldi (1990)
has challenged some common conceptions, and several sets of molecular data have provided information not always compatible
with other taxonomic knowledge or consistent with each other. We present the coding nucleotide sequence of the Cu,Zn superoxide
dismutase gene (Sod) for 15 species, which include the medfly Ceratitis capitata (family Tephritidae), the genera Chymomyza and Zaprionus, and representatives of the subgenera Dorsilopha, Drosophila, Hirtodrosophila, Scaptodrosophila, and Sophophora. Phylogenetic analysis of the Sod sequences indicates that Scaptodrosophila and Chymomyza branched off the main lineage before the major Drosophila radiations. The presence of a second intron in Chymomyza and Scaptodrosophila (as well as in the medfly) confirms the early divergence of these two taxa. This second intron became deleted from the main
lineage before the major Drosophila radiations. According to the Sod sequences, Sophophora (including the melanogaster, obscura, saltans, and willistoni species groups) is older than the subgenus Drosophila; a deep branch splits the willistoni and saltans groups from the melanogaster and obscura groups. The genus Zaprionus and the subgenera Dorsilopha and Hirtodrosophila appear as branches of a prolific “bush” that also embraces the numerous species of the subgenus Drosophila. The Sod results corroborate in many, but not all, respects Throckmorton's (King, R.C. (ed) Handbook of Genetics. Plenum Press, New York, pp. 421–469, 1975) phylogeny; are inconsistent in some important ways with Grimaldi's (Bull. Am. Museum Nat. Hist.
197:1–139, 1990) cladistic analysis; and also are inconsistent with some inferences based on mitochondrial DNA data. The Sod results manifest how, in addition to the information derived from nucleotide sequences, structural features (i.e., the deletion
of an intron) can help resolve phylogenetic issues.
