Non-lepidopteran pests are exposed to, and may be influenced by, Bt toxins when feeding on Bt maize that express insecticidal Cry proteins derived from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). In order to assess the potential effects of transgenic cry1Ie maize on non-lepidopteran pest species and ecological communities, a 2-year field study was conducted to compare the non-lepidopteran pest abundance, diversity and community composition between transgenic cry1Ie maize (Event IE09S034, Bt maize) and its near isoline (Zong 31, non-Bt maize) by whole plant inspections. Results showed that Bt maize had no effects on non-lepidopteran pest abundance and diversity (Shannon–Wiener diversity index, Simpson’s diversity index, species richness, and Pielou’s index). There was a significant effect of year and sampling time on those indices analyzed. Redundancy analysis indicated maize type, sampling time and year totally explained 20.43 % of the variance in the non-lepidopteran pest community composition, but no association was presented between maize type (Bt maize and non-Bt maize) and the variance. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling analysis showed that sampling time and year, rather than maize type had close relationship with the non-lepidopteran pest community composition. These results corroborated the hypothesis that, at least in the short-term, the transgenic cry1Ie maize had negligible effects on the non-lepidopteran pest abundance, diversity and community composition. 相似文献

We sought to investigate the role of the adenosine A1 receptors (A1ARs) in white matter lesions under chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) and explore the potential repair mechanisms by activation of the receptors. A right unilateral common carotid artery occlusion (rUCCAO) method was used to construct a CCH model. 2-chloro-N6-cyclopentyladenosine (CCPA), a specific agonist of A1ARs, was used to explore the biological mechanisms of repair in white matter lesions under CCH. The expression of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), phosphorylation of mTOR (P-mTOR), myelin basic protein (MBP, a marker of white matter myelination) were detected by Western-blot. Pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels were determined by ELISA. Compared with the control groups on week 2, 4 and 6, in CCPA-treated groups, the ratio of P-mTOR/mTOR, expression of MBP and IL-10 increased markedly, while the expression of TNF-α reduced at week 6. In conclusion, A1ARs appears to reduce inflammation in white matter via the mTOR signaling pathway in the rUCCAO mice. Viruses play a key role in all marine ecosystems, and yet little is known of their distribution in Antarctic waters, especially in bathypelagic waters (>1000 m). In this study, the abundance and distribution of viruses and their potential hosts from the surface to the bottom of Prydz Bay, Antarctic, was investigated using flow cytometry. Viruses and autotrophs were abundant in nearshore and continental shelf waters, while heterotrophic bacteria and picoeukaryotes were abundant in offshore waters. Virus and bacteria abundances generally decreased with increasing depth but increased slightly just above the seafloor. Within the water column, maximum virus numbers coincided with the maximum values of chlorophyll a (when greater than 0.1 μg l?1), in the surface and subsurface (25 m). In the open ocean, however, virus abundance usually correlated with bacterial abundance at greater depths (50, 300 and 500 m) where the surface chlorophyll a concentration was lower than 0.1 μg l?1. Viral abundance was correlated with the host cell abundance, and this was different in different pelagic zones (bacteria and autotrophs (i.e., chlorophyll a concentration) in the epipelagic waters, picoeukaryotes and bacteria in mesopelagic waters and bacteria in bathypelagic waters). Principle component analysis and Pearson correlation analysis indicated that there was a close relationship between virus abundance and chlorophyll a, bacteria and nutrients (NO2 + NO3, phosphate and silicate), and picoeukaryote abundance was mainly correlated with water depth and salinity. 相似文献

The relationship between clinical parameters and pathological changes was investigated in an animal model of mononeuropathy, by behavioral, electrophysiological and histopathological methods. Mononeuropathy was induced in rats by loosely tying ligatures around the sciatic nerve. Eighty-four rats were used, and these were divided into fourteen groups to determine chronological changes in the withdrawal reflex latency, nerve conduction velocity and ultrastructure of the nerve from 1 to 84 days after nerve ligation surgery. Pathological changes around the ligated nerves were divisible in three phases: the first week was an inflammatory phase, when axonal degeneration, phagocyte infiltration and interstitial edematous changes were observed. The second and third weeks were a nerve-sprouting phase, when numerous axonal sprouts and remyelination were seen. The fourth to twelfth weeks were a recovery phase in which maturing myelination and interstitial fibrosis were characteristic. In the inflammatory phase, withdrawal reflex latencies were shortened, and sensory nerve conduction velocities (SCV) and motor nerve conduction velocities (MCV) gradually decreased. In the nerve-sprouting phase, the latency values remained low, and SCV and MCV were minimal. The parameters examined gradually returned to control levels during the recovery phase. In conclusion, these findings increase the knowledge of disease progression in mononeuropathy with hyperalgesia in human and animal models. 相似文献

The yeast-to-hypha transition is tightly associated with pathogenicity in many human pathogenic fungi, such as the model fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans, which is responsible for approximately 180,000 deaths annually. In this pathogen, the yeast-to-hypha transition can be initiated by distinct stimuli: mating stimulation or glucosamine (GlcN), the monomer of cell wall chitosan. However, it remains poorly understood how the signal specificity for Cryptococcus morphological transition by disparate stimuli is ensured. Here, by integrating temporal expression signature analysis and phenome-based clustering evaluation, we demonstrate that GlcN specifically triggers a unique cellular response, which acts as a critical determinant underlying the activation of GlcN-induced filamentation (GIF). This cellular response is defined by an unusually hyperactive cell wall synthesis that is highly ATP-consuming. A novel cell surface protein Gis1 was identified as the indicator molecule for the GlcN-induced cell wall response. The Mpk1-directed cell wall pathway critically bridges global cell wall gene induction and intracellular ATP supply, ensuring the Gis1-dependent cell wall response and the stimulus specificity of GIF. We further reveal that the ability of Mpk1 to coordinate the cell wall response and GIF activation is conserved in different Cryptococcus pathogens. Phosphoproteomics-based profiling together with genetic and phenotypic analysis revealed that the Mpk1 kinase mediates the regulatory specificity of GIF through a coordinated downstream regulatory network centered on Skn7 and Crz1. Overall, our findings discover an unprecedented and conserved cell wall biosynthesis-dependent fungal differentiation commitment mechanism, which enables the signal specificity of pathogenicity-related dimorphism induced by GlcN in Cryptococcus pathogens. 相似文献

Garnet-type Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) solid-state electrolytes have gained significant attention as one of the most promising electrolyte candidates for high-energy-density energy storage devices due to their superior stability and high ionic conductivity. However, the problem of lithium (Li) dendrite penetration into LLZO hinders the practical application of LLZO in solid-state Li metal batteries (SSLMBs). Multidisciplinary evaluations are carried out to understand the mechanism of dendrite penetration. Herein, the formation and evolution of different types of Li dendrites within LLZO are reviewed. The Li dendrite penetration process is addressed from the perspectives of material design, Li/LLZO interfacial adaptability, and the interfacial charge transfer process. On this basis, recent efforts and solutions to inhibiting the penetration of Li dendrites in LLZO, including stabilizing LLZO phase and densification techniques, interfacial modifications, and grain boundary manipulations, are summarized. It is expected that the in-depth understanding of the Li dendrite penetration and corresponding solutions will provide a systemic guideline toward the development of LLZO-based solid-state electrolytes and the commercialization of ultra-stable SSLMBs. 相似文献
