Cortinarius sarcoflammeus is proposed as a new species belonging to subgenus Dermocybe, on the basis of its morphological, chemical and ecological characters. The strong red-orange colour of the context and stipe base, large spores, sphagnicolous habitat and high dermorubin content are characteristic for the new species. Holotypes of C. huronensis and C. huronensis var. olivaceus have been examined for comparison, and their differences discussed. Photographs and line drawings of C. sarcoflammeus are added. Experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of exposure to nitric oxide on the ability by NADPH‐dependent microsomal electron transfer to generate oxygen radicals. Such interactions could play a role in the potential antioxidant action of nitric oxide (NO). Isolated microsomes from soybean ( Glycine max [L.] Merr. cv. Hood) embryonic axes were exposed to an exogenously added source of nitric oxide (NO) (S‐nitrosoglutathione + dithiothreitol). The O2 generation rate by microsomes exposed to NO decreased significantly as compared to the rate measured in microsomes incubated in the absence of NO. The exposure of the microsomes to the NO donor did not alter the microsomal rate of hydroxyl radical generation. Preincubation of the microsomes with the NO donor affected neither iron reduction rate nor activity of cytochrome c reductase. However, cytochrome P450 activity was significantly inhibited after exposure to NO. This inhibition was completely prevented by hemoglobin. The data are consistent with the hypothesis that NO exhibits a potential antioxidant role in the plant cell by decreasing the rate of generation of superoxide anion. Since endogenous NO was detected in homogenates of soybean embryonic axes by EPR studies, this interaction between NO and cytochrome P450 in soybean embryonic axes could be a factor of relevance for the control of oxidative stress in vivo.  相似文献

1. Manipulation of host behaviour by parasitoids has long captured the imagination of ecologists. Parasitoid wasps in the Polysphincta group of genera develop as external parasitoids of spiders. 2. In the present study, the previously undescribed interaction between a Zatypota sp. wasp (Ichneumonidae) and a social spider Anelosimus eximius (Theridiidae) is described. The larva of this Zatypota wasp is found to induce its host to disperse from their communal web and build an entirely enclosed web consisting of densely spun silk. 3. The wasp is observed to target primarily immature A. eximius individuals, with 37.5–44% of nests in a given area being parasitised. Of those nests, approximately 1.3–2.0% of individuals are hosts to the parasitoid larvae. Larger spider colonies had a significantly higher probability of harbouring parasitoids. 4. This interaction results in unusual behaviours for A. eximius induced by the parasitoid: (i) leaving the protection of the social nest and (ii) building a unique, altered web that it would not otherwise build. It is suggested that the wasp may be tapping into ancestral dispersal behaviours in its host and that a social species provides this wasp an evolutionary advantage by allowing a stable host source.  相似文献

Forty-five populations of Pentanema corresponding to seven species included in the Pentanema conyzae clade have been studied using AFLP fingerprinting. The results show that allopolyploidization could have been involved in the diversification of this group, specifically in species P. langeanum and P. maletii. Molecular data confirm the presence of P. britannicum in the Iberian Peninsula and key steps are provided to identify the species that are morphologically the most challenging.  相似文献

We hypothesized that the acute ventilatory response to hypoxia is enhanced after exposure to episodic hypoxia in awake humans. Eleven subjects completed a series of rebreathing trials before and after exposure to eight 4-min episodes of hypoxia. During the rebreathing trials, subjects initially hyperventilated to reduce the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (Pet(CO(2))) below 25 Torr. Subjects then breathed from a bag containing normocapnic (42 Torr), low (50 Torr), or high oxygen (140 Torr) gas mixtures. During the trials, Pet(CO(2)) increased while a constant oxygen level was maintained. The point at which ventilation began to rise in a linear fashion as Pet(CO(2)) increased was considered to be the ventilatory recruitment threshold. The ventilatory response below and above the recruitment threshold was determined. Ventilation did not persist above baseline values immediately after exposure to episodic hypoxia; however, Pet(CO(2)) levels were reduced compared with baseline. In contrast, compared with baseline, the ventilatory response to progressive increases in carbon dioxide during rebreathing trials in the presence of low but not high oxygen levels was increased after exposure to episodic hypoxia. This increase occurred when carbon dioxide levels were above but not below the ventilatory recruitment threshold. We conclude that long-term facilitation of ventilation (i.e., increases in ventilation that persist when normoxia is restored after episodic hypoxia) is not expressed in awake humans in the presence of hypocapnia. Nevertheless, despite this lack of expression, the acute ventilatory response to hypoxia in the presence of hypercapnia is increased after exposure to episodic hypoxia.  相似文献
