Immunological diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumonias]

A complex of immunological cell tests with M. pneumoniae antigen (the lymphocyte blast-cell transformation test, the allergic neutrophil alteration test) was carried out in order to establish the correlation between the results of positive seroconversion and the sepcific immunological reactivity of lymphoid cells in pneumonia patients. Mycoplasmic cutireactive allergen, when used for the accelerated diagnosis of mycoplasmic pneumonia in humans, was shown to be specific and safe. Cuti-allergic tests with mycoplasmic allergen allowed to diagnose mycoplasmic pneumonia at early stages (beginning from days 5--7), which ensures the possibility of indicating etiotropic treatment to patients in due time.     

Changes in nerve structure on one side of the body following section of the inferior alveolar and sciatic nerves on the opposite side of the body in dogs]

The author describes changes of the lower alveolar and ischiadic nerves on the non-operated side after cutting such nerves on the opposite side of dogs, as well as changes in the organs innervated by them. The observed dystrophic changes in the nerve fibres on the non-operated side turn into more severe and non-reversible changes due to abnormal stimulation. Changes of masticatory organs appearing after cutting the lower alveolar nerve have bilateral manifestations being more pronounced on the same side especially in the case of a simultaneous dissection of the lower alveolar artery. These investigations contribute to possible interpretation of cases of symmetrical caries, development of dento-maxillary deformations on both sides.     

Effect of the limbic cortex on regional lymph and blood flow in dogs]

Electrical stimulation of the anterior limbic area of the cortex in dogs resulted in increase of the lymph flow from the intestinal lymph duct, in enlargement of the mesenteric lymph nodes, in a fall of arterial pressure in the cranial mesenteric artery, and in decrease of the blood-stream from the homonymous vein and in the tone of the mesenteric veins. Constriction of the mesenteric veins and increase in the intestinal lymph-stream are considered to be a compensatory reaction to restore the arterial pressure to the initial level.     

Effect of acid metabolites on the osteoinductive activity of the bone matrix

The osteoinductive activity of bone matrix demineralized in acid metabolites of glycolysis and Krebs cycle have been studied in rats. The highest osteoinductive effect was reached during the demineralization in oxaloacetic acid, the lowest one--in the malic acid. The regulatory role of glycolysis metabolites and Krebs Cycle in posttraumatic osteogenesis is under discussion.     

Cyclic analogs of des-Arg9-[Leu8]bradykinin

Four cyclic derivatives of des-Arg9[Leu8]bradykinin have been obtained by classical methods of peptide chemistry. They are cyclo-(-X-Arg-Pro-Pro-Gly-Phe-Gly-Pro-Leu-), where X=Lys or none, and cyclo-(Y-Arg-Pro-Pro-Gly-Phe-Ser-Pro-Leu-), where Y= Lys or Orn. Peptide bonds have been formed by the pentafluorophenylester method, and cyclization has been carried out in a diluted dioxane solution with 40% yield. Subsequent cleavage of protecting groups was made by treatment with hydrogen fluoride. The products obtained were purified by droplet counter-current chromatography. These substances liberate histamine from the rat mast cells comparably to bradykinin and fail to produce myotripic and vascular effects.     

Mathematical approach to modeling of the treatment of suppurative processes

Consideration of an inflammation focus as an "open system" provided analogy between microbiological processes in inflamed wounds and in systems of continuous cultivation of microorganisms. Mathematical modeling of such systems is widely used. Some of the methods for the mathematical modeling were applied to chemoprophylaxis and chemotherapy of postoperative wounds. In modeling continuous cultivation of microorganisms it is usually necessary to determine optimal conditions for the maximum yield of their biomass. In modeling of wound treatment the aim was to determine the process parameters providing the minimum biomass. The described simple models showed that there could be certain optimal flow rate of the washing fluid in the aspiration-washing procedure for wound treatment at which the drug was not completely washed out while the growth rate of the microbial population was minimal. Such mathematical models were shown valuable in optimizing the use of bactericidal and bacteriostatic antibiotics.     

Participation of the thalamic reticular nucleus in the shaping of the interrelations of the mesencephalic reticular formation and the lateral geniculate body

On the awake rabbits and cats under nembutal anesthesia it has been shown that the reticular nucleus of the thalamus takes considerable part in the formation of reticulogeniculate response of the lateral geniculate body (LGB) to electrostimulation of the mesencephalic reticular formation. It is assumed that the reticular nucleus of the thalamus takes basic part in a realization of "rapid" physical influences of the reticular formation on the LGB.     

The causes of hydration changes during DNA protonation

Changes of DNA hydration provoked by protonation in the way of Na+- and H+-ions exchange, and in the way of HCl addition to Na+-DNA, were analysed by IR-spectroscopy. Water is shown not to contribute essentially to the formation and stabilization of conformations arising when DNA is protonated. The differences between hydratation of DNA protonated by different ways are in the main accounted for by alteration of the quantities of Na+ and Cl- ions forming the aqueous-salt envelope of polynucleotide.     

Therapeutic effect of purified components of a turtle spleen extract

The administration of a spleen extract of Testudo horsfieldi to mice exposed to lethal radiation of 8 Gy was shown to increase the survival rate and to stimulate haemopoiesis and formation of endocolonies in the spleen. The gel filtration method was used to obtain an active fraction which was subjected to chromatography on cation exchanger to give two more fractions. Active was the fraction with basic components.
