Summary. Two hundred and eighty-two alloantisera were submitted by 20 participating laboratories from 13 countries and tested against lymphocytes of 1298 cattle. The cell panel consisted of samples from 38 Bos taurus breeds, 11 Bos taurus crossbreeds, 4 Bos indicus breeds, 6 Bos taurus X Bos indicus , and a variety of other crossbred populations. Using a standardized lymphocytotoxicity test, all 17 previously identified BoLA specificities were confirmed. The workshop produced agreement on 16 new lymphocyte alloantigenic specificities. Three of the new specificities behaved as splits of previously identified BoLA specificities. Four of the new specificities behaved as alleles at the agreed BoLA-A locus. Seven new specificities are tentatively assigned to the BoLA-A locus but require further definition. Two new specificities may represent products of a second closely-linked BoLA locus. 相似文献

Large, rapidly evolving intergenic spacers in the mitochondrial DNA of the salamander family Ambystomatidae (Amphibia: Caudata) 总被引:5,自引:2,他引:3
We report the presence, in the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of all of the
sexual species of the salamander family Ambystomatidae, of a shared 240- bp
intergenic spacer between tRNAThr and tRNAPro. We place the intergenic
spacer in context by presenting the sequence of 1,746 bp of mtDNA from
Ambystoma tigrinum tigrinum, describe the nucleotide composition of the
intergenic spacer in all of the species of Ambystomatidae, and compare it
to other coding and noncoding regions of Ambystoma and several other
vertebrate mtDNAs. The nucleotide substitution rate of the intergenic
spacer is approximately three times faster than the substitution rate of
the control region, as shown by comparisons among six Ambystoma
macrodactylum sequences and eight members of the Ambystoma tigrinum
complex. We also found additional inserts within the intergenic spacers of
five species that varied from 87-444 bp in length. The presence of the
intergenic spacer in all sexual species of Ambystomatidae suggests that it
arose at least 20 MYA and has been a stable component of the ambystomatid
mtDNA ever since. As such, it represents one of the few examples of a large
and persistent intergenic spacer in the mtDNA of any vertebrate clade.

Abstract Two reptile tick species, Aponomma hydrosauri and Amblyomma limbatum, have a parapatric distribution in South Australia. Predation may play a role in maintaining the boundary. Laboratory colonies of Rhytidoponera and Iridomyrmex ants were collected from near Mt Mary, South Australia, close to the tick boundary. They were tested as predators of the two tick species. In the experiments, ticks in leaf litter were more protected from predation than those on bare soil. When comparing leaf litter types from the Mt Mary area, mallee litter was more protective than bluebush litter of equivalent depth. Ticks positioned at the base of the litter layer were more protected from predation than those at the litter surface, and Amb. limbatum ticks were more resistant to predation than Ap. hydrosauri ticks. These results contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms maintaining the abrupt parapatric boundary between the two tick species. Predators may contribute to preventing the more susceptible Ap. hydrosauri from spreading further north, where bluebush litter is more common, and so predation risk is higher. Predators probably have less influence in preventing Amb. limbatum from spreading further south. 相似文献

Studies of the Utilization of Coconut Water Waste for the Production of the Food Yeast Saccharomyces fragilis 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The accepted food yeast Saccharomyces fragilis was grown in batch and chemostat culture on coconut water and on a simulated coconut-water medium containing glucose, fructose, sucrose and sorbitol, to provide kinetic data for a feasibility study of microbial protein production. Analyses of growth on individual and mixed carbon substrates were made to determine sugar assimilation patterns in batch and chemostat cultures on coconut water. Growth on the polyol produced a much reduced specific growth rate, assimilation rate, growth yield and productivity compared to growth on the sugars. In mixed substrate fermentations a sequential utilization of the carbohydrates occurred. Both the monosaccharides repressed invertase synthesis and all three sugars repressed sorbitol assimilation. Complete carbon assimilation was only obtained by prolonged batch fermentation or in chemostat cultures at low dilution rates (<0.10 h-1 ). Supplementation of coconut water with biotin and nicotinic acid increased biomass yields in chemostat cultures. 相似文献
