The Amyloid A1 (AA1) and A2 (AA2) proteins, which result from proteolytic cleavage of the Serum Amyloid A1 (SAA1) and A2 (SAA2) proteins, are major protein components of the Amyloid A deposits found in secondary amyloidosis. This study determines frequency of serum amyloid A2 alleles (alpha, beta) in healthy Turkish, Azerbaijan and Kazakh subjects. Two hundred Turkish, sixty five Azerbaijan and sixty five Kazakh healthy individuals were studied by previously described the PCR-RFLP methods. Our data revealed that the frequencies of the alpha and beta alleles at the SAA2 locus in the Turkish healthy population were different when compared to those in Azerbaijan and Kazakh healthy populations (p = 0.014 and p = 0.02), respectively. In contrast, the difference between alpha and beta alleles at the SAA2 locus was not different in both Kazakh and Azerbaijan healthy populations (p = 0.882). 相似文献

Teucrium stachyophyllum P. H. Davis was first described as a separate species in the ‘Syrian, Lebanon and Palestine Flora’, but was reduced to a subspecies of T. lamiifolium d’Urv. in the ‘Turkish Flora’. Studies on the macro‐ and micro‐morphology as well as the anatomy of populations of T. lamiifolium subsp. stachyophyllum (P. H. Davis) Hedge & Ekim and T. lamiifolium subsp. lamiifolium in Turkey have been carried out based on herbarium specimens and field observations. The results from the anatomical studies on stems and leaves show that although the two taxa are similar in stem anatomy, they differ in terms of mesophyll thickness and occurrence of crystals in the upper epidermal cells of the leaf. Light and scanning electron microscope analyzes revealed striking differences in colour, size, sculpture and gland density between nutlets of the two taxa. Morphological studies also showed that there were important differences between the two taxa in terms of inflorescence, indumentum, and stem length and thickness. In addition, the essential oils from aerial parts of T. lamiifolium subsp. stachyophyllum and T. lamiifolium subsp. lamiifolium were isolated by steam distillation and analysed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The major components were characterized as β‐caryophyllene (23.5–44.8%), trans‐β‐bergamotene (22.4–26.4%), germacrene D (22.2%) and (Z)‐β‐farnesene (14.0%) for subp. lamiifolium and trans‐β‐bergamotene (38.1–41.1%) and β‐caryophyllene (8.7–8.9%) for subsp. stachyophyllum, respectively. As a result of the studies, it is proposed that the taxon treated as T. lamiifolium subsp. stachyophyllum in the Turkish flora should be raised to specific rank as T. stachyophyllum. 相似文献

Upper gastrointestinal motor function and incretin hormone secretion are major determinants of postprandial glycemia and insulinemia. However, the impact of small intestinal flow events on glucose absorption and incretin release is poorly defined. Intraluminal impedance monitoring is a novel technique that allows flow events to be quantified. Eight healthy volunteers were studied twice, in random order. A catheter incorporating six pairs of electrodes at 3-cm intervals, and six corresponding manometry sideholes, was positioned in the duodenum. Hyoscine butylbromide (20 mg) or saline was given as an intravenous bolus, followed by a continuous intravenous infusion of either hyoscine (20 mg/h) or saline over 60 min. Concurrently, glucose and 3-O-methylglucose (3-OMG) were infused into the proximal duodenum (3 kcal/min), with frequent blood sampling to measure glucose, 3-OMG, insulin, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). The frequency of duodenal pressure waves and propagated pressure wave sequences was reduced by hyoscine in the first 10 min (P<0.01 for both), but not after that time. In contrast, there were markedly fewer duodenal flow events throughout 60 min with hyoscine (P<0.005). Overall, blood glucose (P<0.01) and plasma 3-OMG concentrations (P<0.05) were lower during hyoscine than saline, whereas plasma insulin, GLP-1, and GIP concentrations were initially (t=20 min) lower during hyoscine (P<0.05). In conclusion, intraluminal impedance measurement may be more sensitive than manometry in demonstrating alterations in duodenal motor function. A reduction in the frequency of duodenal flow events is associated with a decreased rate of glucose absorption and incretin release in healthy subjects. 相似文献

Infection with the human liver fluke, Opisthorchis viverrini, is a serious public health problem in Thailand, Laos and nearby locations in Southeast Asia. Both experimental and epidemiological evidence strongly implicate liver fluke infection in the etiology of one of the liver cancer subtypes, cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). To identify parasite proteins critical for liver fluke survival and the etiology of CCA, OFFGEL electrophoresis and multiple reaction monitoring were employed to characterize 300 parasite proteins from the O. viverrini excretory/secretory products and, utilizing selective labeling and sequential solubilization, from the host‐exposed tegument. The excretory/secretory included a complex mixture of proteins that have been associated with cancers, including proteases of different mechanistic classes and orthologues of mammalian growth factors and anti‐apoptotic proteins. Also identified was a cysteine protease inhibitor which, in other helminth pathogens, induces nitric oxide production by macrophages, and, hence may contribute to malignant transformation of inflamed cells. More than 160 tegumental proteins were identified using sequential solubilization of isolated teguments, and a subset of these was localized to the surface membrane of the tegument by labeling living flukes with biotin and confirming surface localization with fluorescence microscopy. These included annexins, which are potential immuno‐modulators, and orthologues of the schistosomiasis vaccine antigens Sm29 and tetraspanin‐2. Novel roles in pathogenesis were suggested for the tegument–host interface since more than ten surface proteins had no homologues in the public databases. The O. viverrini proteins identified here provide an extensive catalogue of novel leads for research on the pathogenesis of opisthorchiasis and the development of novel interventions for this disease and CCA, as well as providing a scaffold for sequencing the genome of this fluke. 相似文献

The origin of the European bison (Bison bonasus, Linnaeus, 1758) has been widely discussed and investigated in recent years. The species had a wide historic geographic distribution throughout the European continent during the middle and late Holocene, ranging from France in the west to the Caucasus in the east. However, archaeological evidence is needed to resolve the southern extent of the European bison distribution. We discovered one bison skull fragment during archaeological excavations in 2008 in the area of Yenikap? Metro and Marmaray (Turkey). Radiocarbon dating indicated the skull was deposited during the Byzantine period (seventh to eighth century AD). Mitochondrial genome analyses provided clear evidence that the skull was from a European bison. This is the first unambiguous evidence of the presence of this species in southeastern Europe during Byzantine times, which validates the historical written records of a potentially wider range of the European bison in historical times. 相似文献

Placental type 3 iodothyronine deiodinase (D3) potentially protects the fetus from the elevated maternal thyroid hormones. Na+/I? symporter (NIS) is a plasma membrane glycoprotein, which mediates active iodide uptake. Our objectives were to establish the distribution of NIS and D3 gene expressions in the placenta and the amniotic membrane and to investigate the relationship between placental D3 and NIS gene expressions and maternal iodine, selenium, and thyroid hormone status. Thyroid hormones, urinary iodine concentration (UIC), and selenium levels were measured in 49 healthy term pregnant women. NIS and D3 gene expressions were studied with the total mRNA RT-PCR method in tissues from maternal placenta (n?=?49), fetal placenta (n?=?9), and amniotic membrane (n?=?9). NIS and D3 gene expressions were shown in the fetal and maternal sides of the placenta and amniotic membrane. Mean blood selenium level was 66?±?26.5 μg/l, and median UIC was 143 μg/l. We could not demonstrate any statistically significant relationship of spot UIC and blood selenium with NIS and D3 expression (p?>?0.05). Positive correlations were found between NIS and thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG) (r?=?0.3, p?=?0.042) and between D3 and preoperative glucose levels (r?=?0.4, p?=?0.006). D3 and NIS genes are expressed in term placenta and amniotic membrane; thus, in addition to placenta, amniotic membrane contributes to regulation of maternofetal iodine and thyroid hormone transmission. Further studies are needed to clarify the relationship between maternal glucose levels and placental D3 expression and between TBG and placental NIS expression. 相似文献
