The presence of surface-active material in the lung alveolus has been known for several decades as being essential for normal lung function. The host defense and controlling inflammatory processes of the lung are the major functions of SP-A and SP-D. SP-A and SP-D were originally demonstrated in alveolar type II cells, but recent studies have shown extrapulmonary expression of SP-A and SP-D indicating systemic roles of these proteins. Present study describes the presence of SP-A and SP-D in the stallion genital tract, prepuce, prostate, testis, and seminal vesicle using Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. This paper presents the first evidence for the existence of SP-A and SP-D glycoproteins in the stallion genital tract. We examined genital system organs and tissues from stallion and were able to show that surfactant protein A and D reactive with surfactant-specific antibodies were present in the stallion genital tract tissues and organs. On the basis of results, it can be postulated that surfactant proteins in the stallion reproductive tract contribute to the immune surveillance and to active barrier defense mechanism. 相似文献

Aspiration is a devastating complication during decontamination procedure in poisoning patients. We have investigated whether S-methylisothiourea protects different pulmonary aspiration gastrointestinal decontamination agent-induced lung injury in rats. Forty-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to one of six groups (n = 7): normal saline, activated charcoal, polyethylene glycol, normal saline + S-methylisothiourea treated activated charcoal + S-methylisothiourea treated and polyethylene glycol + S-methylisothiourea treated. Normal saline, activated aharcoal and polyethylene glycol were instilled into the lungs. The rats received S-methylisothiourea i.p twice daily for 7 days. Serum surfactant protein D, oxidative stress products and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression in the lung were investigated. The aspiration of activated charcoal significantly increased all histopathological scores (P < 0.01). Only peribronchial inflammatory cell infiltration, alveolar edema, and alveolar histiocytes were increased in the polyethylene glycol groups as compared to the normal saline group (P < 0.05). Pulmonary aspiration increased serum malondialdehyde (P < 0.001), and surfactant protein D (P < 0.05) levels and decreased serum superoxide dismutase levels (P < 0.05). S-methylisothiourea treatment decreased all histopathological scores in the activated charcoal treated S-methylisothiourea group (P < 0.01) and only decreased alveolar edema and alveolar histiocytes in the polyethylene glycol-treated S-methylisothiourea group (P < 0.05). S-methylisothiourea treatment reduced elevated oxidative factors, inducible nitric oxide synthase activity and serum surfactant protein D levels. Our findings showed that S-methylisothiourea may be a protective drug against Activated Charcoal and Polyethylene Glycol-induced lung injury. 相似文献

Effects of cadmium on antioxidant enzyme and photosynthetic activities in leaves of two maize cultivars 总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
Effects of cadmium (Cd(2+)) on photosynthetic and antioxidant activities of maize (Zea mays L.) cultivars (3223 and 32D99) were investigated. Fourteen-day-old cultivar seedlings were exposed to different Cd concentrations [0, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9mM Cd(NO(3))(2).4H(2)O] for 8 days. The results of chlorophyll fluorescence indicated that different levels of Cd affected photochemical efficiency in 3223 much more than that in 32D99. In parallel, the level of Cd at 0.9mM caused oxidative damage but did not indicate cessation of PSII activity of the cultivars; plant death was not observed at highly toxic Cd levels. Additionally, the increase in Cd concentration caused loss of chlorophylls and carotenoid and membrane damage in both cultivars, but greater membrane damage was observed in 3223 than in 32D99. Depending on Cd accumulation, a significant reduction in dry biomass was observed in both cultivars at all Cd concentrations. The accumulation of Cd was higher in roots than in leaves for both cultivars. Nevertheless, cultivar 3223 transferred more Cd from roots to leaves than did 32D99. On the other hand, our results suggest that there were similar responses in SOD, APX and GR activities with increasing Cd concentrations for both cultivars. However, POD activity significantly increased at highly toxic Cd levels in 32D99. This result may be regarded as an indication of better tolerance of the Z. mays L. cultivar 32D99 to Cd contamination. 相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate the potential of peanut husk (Arachis hypogaea L.) as a fiber–peanut mixture to produce fiberboards for general purposes. For panel production, the addition of peanut husk at various percentages to the wood fiber was the only variable. Panels produced utilizing peanut husk were compared to panels produced using 100% wood fiber. The chemical properties of peanut husk; holocellulose and lignin content, alcohol–benzene, hot and cold water, and dilute alkali (1% NaOH) solubility, were also determined. Results indicated that panels could be produced utilizing up to 30% peanut husk without affecting the usability of the panels. It was not possible to meet the minimum IB strength standards when peanut husk was added to the mixture. Higher additions resulted in panels having lower elastic and rupture moduli than the minimum requirements according to TS-EN standards. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the diversity of cultivable phosphate solubilising (PSB) and total bacteria originated from 384 rhizospheric acidic soils samples of tea plants grown at 32 locations. Over 900 rhizoplane bacteria were randomly selected from agar-solidified trypticase soy broth, and identified using fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) profiles. Based on FAME profiles, 53 bacterial genera were identified with a similarity index >0.3, but 60.3% of the identified isolates belonged to five genera: Bacillus (34.6%), Pseudomonas (8.9%), Stenotrophomonas (6.1%), Paenibacillus (5.9%) and Arthrobacter (4.8%). The bacilli group comprised many different species, with the most abundant being B. cereus, B. megaterium and B. sphaericus. The main identified Pseudomonads included P. fluorescens, P. putida, and P. alcaligenes. About 30.4% of the bacterial isolates could not be classified to genus since their similarity indices were <0.3 indicating no close matches. Most of the total and P-solubilizing bacteria isolated were Gram positive (61.3 and 52.3%), and Gram negative constituted only 38.7 and 47.7%. Out of the 214 PSB from a pool of 506 bacterial isolates recovered on the selective media from the rhizosphere of tea, 74 of them were characterized by carbon sources using BIOLOGM GN2 and GP2 plates. Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Paenibacillus and Stenotrophomonas genera were the most prominent P-solubilizing groups in the rhizosphere and soil populations analyzed. B. cereus, P. fluorescens, S. maltophilia, B. megaterium, P. putida, B. sphaericus and Paenibacillus polymyxa were the most frequent P-solubilizing species in the acidic tea rhizosohere soils. Selected Gram-positive PSB appeared to favour carbohydrates, and Gram-negative bacteria appeared to favour carboxylic acids, amino acids and carbohydrates as carbon sources. Background: Therapeutic benefits of Kinect-based virtual reality (VR) game training in rehabilitation encourage its use to improve motor function.Objective: To assess the effects of Kinect-based VR training on motor recovery of the upper extremity and functional outcomes in patients with chronic stroke.Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, group A received 20 sessions of physical therapy (PT)?+?20 sessions of Kinect-based VR training and group B received only 20 sessions of PT. Clinical outcome measures were assessed at baseline and at the end of the treatments. Primary outcome measures that assess stroke patients’ motor function included upper extremity (UE) Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA). Secondary outcome measures were Brunnstrom Recovery Stages (BRS), Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), Box and Block test (BBT), Motricity index (MI), and active range of motion (AROM) measurement.Results: Statistically significant improvements in game scores (p?0.05) were observed in group A. In within-group analysis, there were statistically significant improvements in all clinical outcome measures except for the BRS-hand, MAS-distal, and MAS-hand in group A; MAS-(proximal, distal, hand) and BRS-(UE, hand) in group B compared with baseline values. Differences from baseline of FMA, MI, and AROM (except adduction of shoulder and extension of elbow) were greater in group A (p?0.05).Conclusions: To conclude, our results suggest that the adjunct use of Kinect-based VR training may contribute to the improvement of UE motor function and AROM in chronic stroke patients. Further studies with a larger number of subjects with longer follow-up periods are needed to establish its effectiveness in neurorehabilitation. 相似文献

Carbon nanotube (CNTs) is a new alternative for efficient drug delivery and it has a great potential to change drug delivery system profile in pharmaceutical industry. One of the important advantage of CNTs is their needle-like, cylindrical shape. This shape provides a high surface area for multiple connections and adsorption onto for millions of therapeutic molecules. CNTs can be internalized by cells via endocytosis, passive diffusion and phagocytosis and release the drug with different effects like pH and temperature. The acidic nature of cancer cells and the susceptibility of CNTs to release the drug in the acidic environment have made it a promising area of research in cancer drug delivery. In this research, we investigated cell viability, cytotoxicity and drug delivery in breast cancer cell line by designing non-covalent single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT)–doxorubicin (DOX) supramolecular complex that can be developed for cancer therapy. Applied high concentrations of DOX loaded SWNTs changed the actin structure of the cells and prevented the proliferation of the cells. It was showed that doxorubicin loaded SWNTs were more effective than free doxorubicin at relatively small concentrations. Once we applied same procedure for short and long (short: 1–1.3 µm; long: 2.5–4 µm) SWNTs and compared the results, more disrupted cell structure and reduction in cell proliferation were observed for long CNTs. DOX is bounded more to nanotubes in basic medium, less bound in acidic environment. Cancer cells were also examined for concentration at which they were effective by applying DOX and it was seen that 3.68 µM doxorubicin kills more than 55% of the cells. 相似文献

In addition to previously obtained furanosesquiterpenes, two new eudesmanolides and a new glechomanolide were isolated from the fruits of Smyrnium cordifolium, while the roots gave two new eudesmanolides. The new compounds from the fruits were 1β-acetoxy-eudesman-4(15), 7(11)-dien-8,12-olide, 1β-acetoxy-8β-hydroxy-eudesman-4(15),7(11)-dien-8,12-olide, 1β,10α;4α,5β-diepoxy-8-hydroxy-glechomanolide, those obtained from the roots were smyrnicordiolide and the corresponding 8β-hydroxy derivative belonging to a new type of oxepine derivative. 相似文献

We have examined the expression of mRNAs for epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-α), EGF
receptor (EGFR), PDGF-A chain (PDGFA), PDGF-B chain (PDGFB) and PDGF receptor (PDGFR) genes in seven human colorectal carcinoma
cell lines and 18 human colorectal carcinomas.
In surgically resected specimens of the 18 colorectal tumors, TGF-α, EGFR, PDGFA, PDGFB and PDGFR mRNAs were detected at various
levels in 15 (83%), 9 (50%), 18 (100%), 8 (44%) and 12 (67%), respectively. They were also detected in normal tissues. Interestingly,
EGF mRNA was detected in only five (28%) of the tumors, but not in normal mucosa. Expression of EGF was also confirmed immunohistochemically
in tumor cells. Of the five tumors expressing EGF, four expressed EGFR mRNA and showed a tendency to invade veins and lymphatics.
All the colorectal carcinoma cell lines expressed TGF-α mRNA, and five cell lines expressed EGFR mRNA simultaneously. Production
of TGF-α protein by DLD-1 and CoLo320DM cells was confirmed by TGF-α specific monoclonal antibody binding assay. The spontaneous3H-thymidine uptake by DLD-1 was suppressed by an anti-TGF-α monoclonal antibody. PDGFA and PDGFB mRNA were also expressed
in four cell lines, but PDGFR and EGF mRNA was not detected. These results suggest that human colorectal carcinomas express
multi-loops of growth factors and that TGF-α produced by tumor cells functions as an autocrine growth factor in human colonic

The aerial parts of Passiflora serratodigitata yielded 5,7-dihydroxy-4-phenylcoumarin, its 7-β-glucoside and the known C-glycosylflavones 2″-xylosylvitexin, 2″-xylosylisovitexin, vitexin, isovitexin, a vicenin, and orientin.
