Effects of form of olive cake (OC) on growth performances and carcass quality were studied on forty-eight Awassi lambs. All lambs were male with an average body weight of 29.5 kg (S.D. = 2.3 kg) at the beginning of the experiment. Animals were randomly divided into four groups of 12 lambs each. Lambs in each group received individually corn–soybean meal (SBM) total mixed rations (TMRs). Rations were incorporated with a fixed amount (149 g/kg DM) of OC of different forms: crude OC, a product of the three centrifugation extraction procedure (control group), alkali treated, ensiled and pelleted. All rations were isonitrogenous and isocaloric. The growth experiment lasted 10 weeks. In the following week, all lambs were slaughtered. At termination of the experiment, lambs fed crude, alkali treated or ensiled OC rations consumed more feed and gained more weight (P<0.05) than those fed the pelleted OC. This same trend was found for the feed conversion (FC), carcass and empty body weights (EBWs). However, external (hide, head and feet, HHF) and thoracic organs (heart and lungs, HL), gut and liver weights proportional to EBW (g/kg) were not affected by the form of OC. The form of OC had no effects on muscle (P=0.4) and bone (P=0.21) tissues. Carcass, pelvic, kidney fats and total carcass fats weights when expressed as g/kg EBW and the percent of carcass fat of total body fat (TBF) were lower in lambs fed the pelleted OC compared to those offered the other forms of OC. However, the subcutaneous, inter muscular and TBF fats weights (g/kg) were comparable among lambs in different OC form rations. Results from this work suggest that the treated OC had no advantages compared to crude in regard to parameters investigated in this research. 相似文献

and it was able to decolorize Malachite Green (MG) dye (50 mg/l) within 4 h under shaking condition (pH 9 and temperature
25°C). The effect of inoculum size, dye concentration, temperature and initial pH of the solution were studied. The results
obtained from the batch experiments revealed the ability of the tested bacteria to remove dye. UV–Vis spectroscopy and FTIR
analysis of samples before and after decolorization confirmed the ability of the tested strain to decolorize MG. In addition,

To enhance table olive tree authentication, relationship, and productivity, we consider the analysis of 18 worldwide table olive cultivars (Olea europaea L.) based on morphological, biological, and physicochemical markers analyzed by bioinformatic and biostatistic tools. Accordingly, we assess the relationships between the studied varieties, on the one hand, and the potential productivity–quantitative parameter links on the other hand. The bioinformatic analysis based on the graphical representation of the matrix of Euclidean distances, the principal components analysis, unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean, and principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) revealed three major clusters which were not correlated with the geographic origin. The statistical analysis based on Kendall’s and Spearman correlation coefficients suggests two highly significant associations with both fruit color and pollinization and the productivity character. These results are confirmed by the multiple linear regression prediction models. In fact, based on the coefficient of determination (R 2) value, the best model demonstrated the power of the pollinization on the tree productivity (R 2 = 0.846). Moreover, the derived directed acyclic graph showed that only two direct influences are detected: effect of tolerance on fruit and stone symmetry on side and effect of tolerance on stone form and oil content on the other side. This work provides better understanding of the diversity available in worldwide table olive cultivars and supplies an important contribution for olive breeding and authenticity. 相似文献

Lipopeptides constitute a structurally diverse group of metabolites produced by various bacterial and fungal genera. In the past decades, research on lipopeptides has been fueled by their surfactant activities. However, natural functions of lipopeptides compounds have received considerably less attention. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify the lipopeptides from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens An6, and further evaluate their biological activities. An6 lipopeptides were detected by PCR using degenerated primers and MALDI‐TOF‐MS. An6 strain was found to produce surfactin, fengycin, and bacillomycin. Following their purification, the in vitro antioxidant activity of An6 lipopeptides was studied through different assays. The scavenging effect on 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl radicals at a dosage of 0.75 mg/mL was 81%. Its reducing power was concentration‐dependant and reached a maximum of 1.07 at 2.5 mg/mL. Moreover, they showed a strong inhibition of β‐carotene bleaching. An6 lipopeptides mixture was also found to display significant antimicrobial activity against several Gram‐positive, Gram‐negative bacteria, and fungal strains. An6 lipopeptides were insensitive to proteolytic enzymes, stable between pH 4.0 and 12.0, and resistant to high temperature. Examination of sputum provides a direct method to investigate airway inflammation non-invasively in particular Th1 (IL-2, IFN-gamma) and Th2 (IL-4, IL-10) cytokine production. IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and IFN-gamma cytokine were studied in induced sputum mononuclear cells of asthmatic patients. Sputum induction was performed on 10 patients and 10 normal controls. Basal and mitogen-stimulated cytokine production was determined in induced sputum T-cell culture. Supernatants were collected and assayed not only with specific ELISA but also with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques. Data showed a significantly higher production of IL-10 by both the ELISA and the RT-PCR techniques in asthmatic patients compared with sputum mononuclear cells from healthy controls. IL-4 production was detected at a low level using the ELISA method in asthmatic patients. The RT-PCR analysis detected a significantly IL-4-mRNA expression in all asthmatic patients, compared with controls. Results of IL-10 and IL-4 mRNA expression were reproducible. We did not find any alteration in the expression of the type 1 derived cytokines (IL-2 and IFN-gamma) in asthmatic patients or in healthy controls. Our study showed a tendency of induced sputum mononuclear cells to express a Th2-like cytokine pattern in acute exacerbation of asthmatic patients, where IL-10 and IL-4 are synthesized in larger amounts. The combination of sputum induction as a non-invasive tool to explore the lung and the identification of disease-associated cytokine expression and of specific cytokine mRNA should help elucidate mechanisms of the immunologically mediated inflammatory responses in asthma. 相似文献

Tightly balanced antagonism between the Polycomb group (PcG) and the Trithorax group (TrxG) complexes maintain Hox expression patterns in Drosophila and murine model systems. Factors belonging to the PcG/TrxG complexes control various processes in plants as well but whether they participate in mechanisms that antagonize, balance or maintain each other's effects at a particular gene locus is unknown. CURLY LEAF (CLF), an Arabidopsis homolog of enhancer of zeste (EZ) and the ARABIDOPSIS HOMOLOG OF TRITHORAX (ATX1) control the expression of the flower homeotic gene AGAMOUS (AG). Disrupted ATX1 or CLF function results in misexpression of AG, recognizable phenotypes and loss of H3K4me3 or H3K27me3 histone H3-tail marks, respectively. A novel idea suggested by our results here, is that PcG and TrxG complexes function as a specific pair generating bivalent chromatin marks at the silent AG locus. Simultaneous loss of ATX1 and CLF restored AG repression and normalized leaf phenotypes. At the molecular level, disrupted ATX1 and CLF functions did not lead to erasure of the CLF- and ATX1-generated epigenetic marks, as expected: instead, in the double mutants, H3K27me3 and H3K4me3 tags were partially restored. Kombucha is a health-promoting fermented beverage traditionally made by fermenting a sweetened tea with a symbiotic culture of yeast species and acetic acid bacteria. The aim of this work was to develop a beverage using red grape juice as an alternative substrate. Grape juice contains various nutrient elements and phytochemicals, such as polyphenols, which possess a wide range of biological activities. We investigated the chemical characteristics and sensory and antimicrobial activities of the fermented grape juice Kombucha beverage. The pH decreased from 3.95 to 2.9 during the fermentation process and remained fairly constant thereafter, and the acetic acid bacteria and yeast counts in the broth increased up to 6 days of fermentation and subsequently decreased. Phenolic and anthocyanin contents and the antioxidant activity of the fermented beverage were higher after fermentation, with the maximum increase observed on the sixth day of fermentation when values were approximately 2.47- and 1.59-fold higher than pre-fermentation values, respectively, as assessed by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6- sulfonic acid) radical scavenging assays. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used for the qualitative analysis of the grape juice before and after fermentation. Distinct peak variations in the spectral region between 2500 and 1650 cm?1 were observed, which matched the appearance of organic acids and changes in phenolic compounds. Fermented juice Kombucha showed antibacterial activity toward all tested bacteria, which can be primarily ascribed to the increased production of acetic acid, but also to the biosynthesis of other metabolites, during the fermentation process. The 6-day fermented juice was the most appreciated by the taste panel based on the overall quality evaluation; with prolongation of fermentation the fermented juice acquired a distinct sour flavor. 相似文献

A water quality study was carried out on ground water wells, which serve as drinking water sources in farming communities in Al-Mahareth village of Assir region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The objective of this research was to determine concentrations of different forms of nitrogen in drinking water samples. Water samples were collected from these sources every 3 months (from January to December 2008) and analyzed for ammonia, nitrate and nitrite using the Plaintest Photometer Method. Results indicated that the annual mean concentration of nitrate, nitrite and ammonia varied from 23.09 to 25.06 mg/l, 0.006 to 0.36 mg/l and 0.008 to 0.179 mg/l, respectively. An important observation was that, in general, higher nitrate and nitrite concentrations were found during the rainy season compared to the dry season. Concentrations of these potentially toxic substances were below WHO acceptable limits for surface and ground waters, indicating that these water resources appear safe for drinking from a dissolved nitrogen perspective. 相似文献

Geotrichum candidum is a yeast-like filamentous fungus that has attracted industrial interest. The present work investigated G. candidum biomass production in agro-industrial wastewaters (olive mill wastewater (OMW) and cheese whey (CW)) as the only substrate.
Different solid media (Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA), CW, OMW, and OMW/CW mixtures in different proportions) were tested.
OMW/CW mixtures proved to be suitable for optimal mycelia growth of G. candidum with a very high hyphae density. The highest fungal and expansion rate growth of 83 ± 1 mm and 12.4 day−1, respectively, were obtained on a 20:80 mixture of OMW/CW, which was incubated for 7 days. This optimal mixture was used
to study the biomass production and the OMW decolorization ability of G. candidum in the presence of CW in liquid medium. Liquid cultures were also conducted in OMW and CW separately. After 5 days of incubation,
fungal biomass reached 9.26 g l−1 in the OMW/CW mixture and only 2.83 g l−1 in CW, while no biomass production was observed in OMW alone. OMW decolorization and dephenolization by G. candidum also improved in the presence of CW with a decolorization efficiency of 54.5% and a total phenolic reduction of 55.3%, compared
with the control which yielded values of about 10% and 15%, respectively. These results suggested that OMW/CW—as the only
substrate—could be used as a cost-effective medium to produce G. candidum biomass, without the need for water dilution or supplementation with other nutriments. 相似文献
