Objective

To assess the etiological factors of erectile dysfunction in male diabetics.

Material and methods

We have performed a prospective evaluation including 69 diabetic patients suffering from erectile dysfunction. Studied parameters including age, type and duration of diabetes, complications, treatments and associated risk factors were analysed. Comparison was done with a control group of 138 diabetic patients without erectile dysfunction.

Results

There was a significant difference between the diabetic with neurologic complications and the others without neuropathy (p=0.0004). The duration of the diabete was was another risk factor of erectile dysfunction (p=0.049)

Conclusion

We confirm various authors who demonstrated that diabetic impotence seems to be mainly neuropathic in etiology even though it was a multifactorial discomfort.  相似文献

Successful treatment of cancer by boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) requires the selective delivery of (10)B to constituent cells within a tumor. The expression of the folate receptor is amplified in a variety of human tumors and potentially might serve as a molecular target for BNCT. In the present study we have investigated the possibility of targeting the folate receptor on cancer cells using folic acid conjugates of boronated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) containing 3rd generation polyamidoamine dendrimers to obtain (10)B concentrations necessary for BNCT by reducing the uptake of these conjugates by the reticuloendothelial system. First we covalently attached 12-15 decaborate clusters to 3rd generation polyamidoamine dendrimers. Varying quantities of PEG units with varying chain lengths were then linked to these boronated dendrimers to reduce hepatic uptake. Among all prepared combinations, boronated dendrimers with 1-1.5 PEG(2000) units exhibited the lowest hepatic uptake in C57BL/6 mice (7.2-7.7% injected dose (ID)/g liver). Thus, two folate receptor-targeted boronated 3rd generation polyamidoamine dendrimers were prepared, one containing approximately 15 decaborate clusters and approximately 1 PEG(2000) unit with folic acid attached to the distal end, the other containing approximately 13 decaborate clusters, approximately 1 PEG(2000) unit, and approximately 1 PEG(800) unit with folic acid attached to the distal end. In vitro studies using folate receptor (+) KB cells demonstrated receptor-dependent uptake of the latter conjugate. Biodistribution studies with this conjugate in C57BL/6 mice bearing folate receptor (+) murine 24JK-FBP sarcomas resulted in selective tumor uptake (6.0% ID/g tumor), but also high hepatic (38.8% ID/g) and renal (62.8% ID/g) uptake, indicating that attachment of a second PEG unit and/or folic acid may adversely affect the pharmacodynamics of this conjugate.  相似文献

In contrast to pathogenic human immunodeficiency virus and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infections, chronic SIVagm infections in African green monkeys (AGMs) are characterized by persistently low peripheral and tissue viral loads that correlate with the lack of disease observed in these animals. We report here data on the dynamics of acute SIVagm infection in AGMs that exhibit remarkable similarities with viral replication patterns observed in peripheral blood during the first 2 weeks of pathogenic SIVmac infections. Plasma viremia was evident at day 3 postinfection (p.i.) in AGMs, and rapid viral replication led by days 7 to 10 to peak viremias characterized by high levels of antigenemia (1.2 to 5 ng of p27/ml of plasma), peripheral DNA viral load (10(4) to 10(5) DNA copies/10(6) peripheral blood mononuclear cells [PBMC]), and plasma RNA viral load (2 x 10(6) to 2 x 10(8) RNA copies/ml). The lymph node (LN) RNA and DNA viral load patterns were similar to those in blood, with peaks observed between day 7 and day 14. These values in LNs (ranging from 3 x 10(5) to 3 x 10(6) RNA copies/10(6) LN cell [LNC] and 10(3) to 10(4) DNA copies/10(6) LNC) were at no time point higher than those observed in the blood. Both in LNs and in blood, rapid and significant decreases were observed in all infected animals after this peak of viral replication. Within 3 to 4 weeks p. i., antigenemia was no longer detectable and peripheral viral loads decreased to values similar to those characteristic of the chronic phase of infection (10(2) to 10(3) DNA copies/10(6) PBMC and 2 x 10(3) to 2 x 10(5) RNA copies/ml of plasma). In LNs, viral loads declined to 5 x 10(1) to 10(3) DNA copies and 10(4) to 3 x 10(5) RNA copies per 10(6) LNC at day 28 p.i. and continued to decrease until day 84 p.i. (<10 to 3 x 10(4) RNA copies/10(6) LNC). Despite extensive viremia during primary infection, neither follicular hyperplasia nor CD8(+) cell infiltration into LN germinal centers was detected. Altogether, these results indicate that the nonpathogenic outcome of SIVagm infection in its natural host is associated with a rapidly induced control of viral replication in response to SIVagm infection, rather than with a poorly replicating virus or a constitutive host genetic resistance to virus replication.  相似文献

Potential trophic competition between two sympatric mullet species, Mugil cephalus and Mugil curema, was explored in the hypersaline estuary of the Saloum Delta (Senegal) using δ13C and δ15N composition of muscle tissues. Between species, δ15N compositions were similar, suggesting a similar trophic level, while the difference in δ13C compositions indicated that these species did not feed from exactly the same basal production sources or at least not in the same proportions. This result provides the first evidence of isotopic niche segregation between two limno‐benthophageous species belonging to the geographically widespread, and often locally abundant, Mugilidae family.  相似文献

Introduction

Malaria is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in sub-Saharan Africa. Detailed characterization of the risks for malaria, among populations living in areas where the disease is endemic, is an important priority, especially for planning and evaluating future malaria-control tools. A prospective cohort study was implemented in children under ten years living in rural areas with high Plasmodium falciparum transmission in Senegal.

Methods

Malaria incidence was prospectively evaluated over three year follow-up among a cohort of children aged less than 10 years old living in eight villages of the Sokone health district. The parents of 1316 children comprising a passive case detection cohort were encouraged to seek care from the study health centers at any time their child felt sick. In the event of reported history of fever within 24 hours or measured axillary temperature ≥ 37.5°C, a Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) was performed.

Results

From November 2010 to October 2013, among the 1468 reported febrile episodes, 264 were confirmed malaria episodes. Over the 3 years, 218 (16.9%) children experienced at least one clinical malaria episode. Cumulative malaria incidence was 7.3 episodes per 100 children-year at risk, with remarkably heterogeneous rates from 2.5 to 10.5 episodes per 100 children-year at risk. Clinical malaria prevalence ranged from 11.5 to 28.4% in the high transmission season versus from 9.6 to 21.2% in the low transmission season.

Conclusion

This longitudinal community-based study shows that occurrence of clinical malaria was not evenly distributed among all the cohort children in the eight villages. It demonstrates the complexity of spatial distribution of malaria incidence at a local level, even in a region of vegetation and altitudinal homogeneity.  相似文献

The crystal structures of active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients should be strictly controlled because they influence pharmaceutical properties of products which cause the change in the quality or the bioavailability of the products. In this study, we investigated the effects of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) crystallinity on the hydrophilic properties of tablets and the hydrolysis of active pharmaceutical ingredient, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), inside tablets by using tablets containing 20% MCC as an excipient. Different levels of grinding were applied to MCC prior to tablet formulation, to intentionally cause structural variation in the MCC. The water penetration and moisture absorbability of the tablets increased with decreasing the crystallinity of MCC through higher level of grinding. More importantly, the hydrolysis of ASA inside tablets was also accelerated. These results indicate that the crystallinity of MCC has crucial effects on the pharmaceutical properties of tablets even when the tablets contain a relatively small amount of MCC. Therefore, controlling the crystal structure of excipients is important for controlling product qualities.  相似文献

 Five arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal species were isolated and propagated from surface and deep rhizospheres of Faidherbia albida trees growing in two ecoclimatic zones of West Africa: the semi-arid Sahelian and the more humid Sudano-Guinean areas. Of these species, Glomus aggregatum, Glomus caledonium, and Glomus mosseae were trapped by F. albida roots when cultivated with either surface or deep soils. Glomus fasciculatum was found exclusively at the semi-arid Sahelian sites of Louga and Diokoul and Gigaspora margarita was isolated only from 16.5-m and 34-m-deep samples. Comparable glomalean fungal species richness was identified in deep (1.5–34 m) and surface (0.15 m) samples. The isolation and the propagation of glomalean fungi from F. albida rhizospheres confirmed the presence of viable AM fungal propagules, down to the water table, as deep as 34 m. Albeit SH2 domains are abundant protein–protein interaction modules with fundamental roles in the regulation of several physiological and molecular pathways in the cell, the available information about the determinants of their thermodynamic stability and folding properties are still very limited. In this work, we provide a quantitative characterization of the folding pathway of the C‐terminal SH2 domain of SHP2, conducted through a combination of site‐directed mutagenesis and kinetic (un)folding experiments (Φ‐value analysis). The energetic profile of the folding reaction of the C‐SH2 domain is described by a three‐state mechanism characterized by the presence of two transition states and a high‐energy intermediate. The production of 29 site‐directed variants allowed us to calculate the degree of native‐like interactions occurring in the early and late events of the folding reaction. Data analysis highlights the presence of a hydrophobic folding nucleus surrounded by a lower degree of structure in the early events of folding, further consolidated as the reaction proceeds towards the native state. Interestingly, residues physically located in the functional region of the domain reported unusual Φ‐values, a hallmark of the presence of transient misfolding. We compared our results with previous ones obtained for the N‐terminal SH2 domain of SHP2. Notably, a conserved complex folding mechanism implying the presence of a folding intermediate arise from comparison, and the relative stability of such intermediate appears to be highly sequence dependent. Data are discussed under the light of previous works on SH2 domains.  相似文献
