The influence of age and sex on the bioaccumulation of heavy metals in Apodemus sylvaticus was studied in Merja Zerga lagoon in northern Morocco. Five trace metal elements (Zn, Pb, Cr, Cu and Fe) were quantitatively analyzed by Varian AA 240 atomic absorption spectroscopy with graphite furnace in three organs (Liver, Kidney and Heart) from animals of different age and sex. The maximum metal level of the analyzed samples was recorded in adults and was limited to 46.62 μg/g for Pb and 35.1 μg/g for Cu, while it reached 22.69 μg/g, 7.59 μg/g and 6.78 μg/g for Cr, Zn and Fe, respectively. Highly significant differences were found for bioaccumulation of heavy metals according to animal ages and no significant differences were observed between the two sexes among the studied animals. Our results revealed also the existence of a strong correlation (r > 0.65) between the majority of biometric parameters and the trace element concentrations. In general, we found that age is a critical factor in estimating the level of heavy metal pollution. Other characteristics such as habitat, feeding habits and anti-predator behavior of the species need to be studied.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper was to evaluate the use of OLI spectral data as a tool to assess the steppe vegetation in a conservation context. The field sampling was conducted for two specific areas of treatment (a) an exclosure area and (b) a free grazing area. After testing several vegetation indices (VIs), the optimal results were obtained for the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI)‐based aboveground biomass model with r2 = 0.61 and r2 = 0.72 for total and perennial biomass, respectively. No difference between observed and predicted total and perennial biomass was found (p = 0.700 and p = 0.306, respectively). The comparison between the two treatments using the field sampling revealed a significant difference on total plant cover (p = 0.016) and total biomass (p = 0.005), with a plant cover of 50.6% and a biomass of 325.771 kg dry matter per hectare (kg DM ha?1) on average in grazed area and 66.9%, 1,407.869 kg DM ha?1 in exclosure. Finally, a concordance is noted between the results obtained by the NDVI‐based biomass model and the field sampling‐based biomass.  相似文献

In rats grown up in small and large nests the lipolytic activity of adipose tissue was studied in vitro in dependence on age. Independent of age and sex a significantly higher lipoprotein lipase activity as well as a lower basal or norepinephrine stimulated lipolysis and reesterification (absolute) occurred in rats from small nests compared with rats from large nests. The calculated degree of reesterification was independent of the nest size, but decreased from 80% to 30% from one month to one year of age. The marked differences in the lipolytic activities of adipose tissue emphasize the distinct influence of the post-natal nutrition on metabolic functions in the later life and lead to the conclusion that the metabolism of adipose tissue of animals from small nests is directed towards a long-term increased storage of lipids.  相似文献

Seedlings of two cultivars of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) Courgette d'Italie (CI) and Courgette d'Alger (CA) were pre-treated with various concentrations of cadmium, copper and zinc for 30 d. High accumulation of heavy metals especially in the roots was showed. Peroxidase activity was affected according to the type of metal added, concentration, and the plant cultivar used. In leaves and roots of the CI control plants peroxidase activities were 50 and 17 % higher than in the CA control plants. Treatment with Cd (5 μg g−1), Cu (200 μg g−1), and Zn (500 μg g−1) increased peroxidase activities in CA but decreased it in CI both in leaves and roots. Heavy metals tested lead also to some qualitative changes characterized by appearance of new isoforms of peroxidase. The results show the possibility to use the activities of peroxidase as biomarkers for Cd, Cu and Zn stresses. Stretchable solar cells are of growing interest due their key role in realizing many applications such as wearables and biomedical devices. Ultrastretchability, high energy‐efficiency, biocompatibility, and mechanical resilience are essential characteristics of such energy harvesting devices. Here, the development of wafer‐scale monocrystalline silicon solar cells with world‐record ultrastretchability (95%) and efficiency (19%) is demonstrated using a laser‐patterning based corrugation technique. The demonstrated approach transforms interdigitated back contacts (IBC) based rigid solar cells into mechanically reliable but ultrastretchable cells with negligible degradation in the electric performance in terms of current density, open‐circuit voltage, and fill factor. The corrugation method is based on the creation of alternating grooves resulting in silicon islands with different shapes. The stretchability is achieved by orthogonally aligning the active silicon islands to the applied tensile stress and using a biocompatible elastomer (Ecoflex) as a stretchable substrate. The resulting mechanics ensure that the brittle silicon areas do not experience significant mechanical stresses upon asymmetrical stretching. Different patterns are studied including linear, diamond, and triangular patterns, each of which results in a different stretchability and loss of active silicon area. Finally, finite element method based simulation is conducted to study the generated deformation in the different patterned solar cells.  相似文献

Onosma echioides Linn (Boraginaceae) is the most frequently used curative herb widely used for kidney obstruction, sciatic pain, and gout. The present study was designed to investigate the therapeutic effects of n-hexane bark extract of O. echioides (OE) L. root in vivo against Streptozotocin-induced diabetic neuropathy in SD rats. For in vivo activity, the experiment was categorized into five different groups (n = 5). Group-I was considered as nondiabetic/normal control (NC) treated with 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), Group II as diabetic control, Group-III, IV, and V served as diabetic treated with OE 50, OE 100, and pregabalin at a dose of 50, 100, and 10 mg/kg body weight, orally, respectively. Body weight, blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance test, behavioral studies (motor coordination test, thermal hyperalgesia, cold allodynia, locomotor activity, oxidative biomarkers (thio barbituric acid reactive substances [TBARS], superoxide dismutase [SOD], glutathione [GSH], and catalase), and histopathology of the sciatic nerve were performed. Treatment with OE showed a dose-dependent increase in neuroprotective activity by improving the myelination and decreasing the axonal swelling of nerve fibers. The verdicts of behavioral activities showed a remarkable effect on animals after the treatment of extract and standard drug pregabalin. In conclusion, our findings supported the traditional application of OE and explored its importance in the management of diabetic neuropathy. Additional clinical experiments may provide novel therapeutic drugs for diabetes and its complications.  相似文献

The root cell walls of the resistant cultivars of the date palm were more resistant to the action of the cell wall-degrading enzymes (CWDE) of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis than those of the susceptible cultivars. Date palm roots contain four cell wall-bound phenolics identified as p-hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid and sinapic acid. The contents of p-coumaric acid and ferulic acid in the resistant cultivars (IKL, SLY, BSTN) were about 2 times higher than those in the susceptible cultivars (BFG, JHL, BSK). The contents of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and sinapic acid in the resistant cultivars were 8.4 and 4.5 times, respectively, higher than those in the susceptible cultivars. The lignin contents in roots of the resistant cultivars were 1.8 times higher than those of the susceptible cultivars. The cell wall-bound phenols accumulated particularly in resistant cultivars reduced strongly the mycelial growth and the CWDE production in vitro.  相似文献

Influence of supra-optimal concentrations of N on growth and accumulation of N, K, P and Ca in the shoots and roots in Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R.Br. under water stress was assessed in a pot experiment under glasshouse conditions. Thirty four-day-old plants of two lines, ICMV94133 and WCA-78, were subjected to 224, 336, or 448 mg(N) kg–1(soil) and soil moisture 100 or 30 % of field capacity for 30 d. Increasing soil N supply decreased growth of both lines under water deficit. Nitrogen content in the shoots of both lines was not affected by supra-optimal levels of N or different watering regimes, but in contrast, the root N content was increased consistently in WCA-78 with increase in soil N content. Shoot P content increased considerably in WCA-78 at the two higher N contents, but it was significantly lower at drought stress than at well-watered treatment. In contrast, shoot or root P content in ICMV94133 did not differ under both watering regimes. Potassium content in the shoots of WCA-78 was considerably increased at the two higher N contents under drought conditions. Root K content was increased in WCA-78 at the highest N content under well-watered conditions, whereas the reverse was true in ICMV94133. Calcium content in the shoots of ICMV94133 was higher under drought stress compared with that at well-watered conditions, but such pattern was not observed in WCA-78. However, root Ca content increased in both lines with increase in N supply.  相似文献

To determine the relationship between the polymorphism of vitamin D receptor gene and the bone mineral density in children. The study group consisted of 395 children aged 6–18 years. All patients underwent genotyping using the PCR-RFLP method within polymorphic loci BsmI (rs1544410), FokI (rs2228570), ApaI (rs7975232) and Taq I (rs731236) of the VDR gene. The BMD (g/cm2, Z score) and BMC (g, Z score) by DXA method, as well as Z scores of the BUA, SOS and Stiffness ultrasound parameters were evaluated. Based on densitometry results, children were divided into 3 groups: I—Z score ± 1.0; II—Z score from −1.1 to −2.0; and III—Z score ≤ −2.1. A control group numbering 294 children was used for the purpose of allele frequency comparisons. The occurrence of studied polymorphism alleles in the control group did not significantly differ from the values expected according to the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (p values: 0.1224 for BsmI; 0.5958 for TaqI; 0.0817 for ApaI; and 0.8901 for FokI). Allele a ApaI carrier status in group III children was associated with an increased BMD (x = 0.8 vs 0.69, p = 0.0296) and BMC value (x = 28.76 vs 22.14, p = 0.0565) in spine projection results, Stiffness (x = −1.12 vs −1.91, p = 0.0347) and SOS (x = −1.43 vs −2.27, p = 0.0319) ultrasound parameters. In group II, significantly increased SOS values (−1.13 vs −1.73, p = 0.0378) were noted in f (FokI) carriers. The presence of aa ApaI and ff FokI polymorphisms favours a higher bone mass and better bone structure (decreased bone mass loss) in the analysed group.  相似文献
