Subjects perceived touch sensations as arising from a table (or a rubber hand) when both the table (or the rubber hand) and their own real hand were repeatedly tapped and stroked in synchrony with the real hand hidden from view. If the table or rubber hand was then 'injured', subjects displayed a strong skin conductance response (SCR) even though nothing was done to the real hand. Sensations could even be projected to anatomically impossible locations. The illusion was much less vivid, as indicated by subjective reports and SCR, if the real hand was simultaneously visible during stroking, or if the real hand was hidden but touched asynchronously. The fact that the illusion could be significantly diminished when the real hand was simultaneously visible suggests that the illusion and associated SCRs were due to perceptual assimilation of the table (or rubber hand) into one's body image rather than associative conditioning. These experiments demonstrate the malleability of body image and the brain's remarkable capacity for detecting statistical correlations in the sensory input.  相似文献

Lipid-based formulations such as lip glosses that are very alike on the base of their components may have significant differences in their expected macroscopic properties as cosmetics. To differentiate such formulations, high-resolution 13C NMR was performed under magic angle spinning to investigate the properties at both molecular and microscopic levels. Temperature studies were carried out and no polymorphism in the solid domains could be evidenced after the thermal treatment performed for obtaining the commercial lip glosses. 13C NMR spectra also showed that some waxes remain partially solubilized in the oils of formulations. The microscopic structure of the wax-oil liquid domains was worked out on the basis of restricted diffusion properties obtained with proton pulsed-field gradient NMR. Changing a single wax component, in two identical formulations, yields significant morphological differences. In the first one the liquid phase appears as a continuum whereas in the second one, the liquid phase is fractionated into micrometric droplets.  相似文献

PurposeTo define a new index of gait pathology in adults based on electromyographic data: the Ker-EGI for Kerpape-Rennes EMG-based Gait Index. The principle is similar to the one of Gait Deviation Index but using EMG profiles instead of joint angles. It first needs to build a database of healthy subjects gait to be able then to quantify the deviation of one peculiar patient’s gait from this typical behavior.MethodsNinety adults (59 healthy and 31 pathological) participated to this study. All pathological subjects had a diagnosis of central nervous system disorder. On each subject we collected the joint angles and the activation profile of seven muscles of each lower limb. Moreover, we recorded two videos (face and profile) of each patient to compute his/her Edinburgh Visual Gait Score (EVGS). Then for each patient, we computed the GGI (Gillette Gait Index), the GDI (Gait Deviation Index) and the Ker-EGI.ResultsCorrelation Ker-EGI and each of the three kinematical indices (GGI, GDI, EVGS) is fair to good (respectively R2 = 0.62, 0.42, and 0.69).ConclusionKeR-EGI is a valid index to evaluate gait and is complementary to one of these three kinematical indices providing synthetic vision on patients’ motor control abilities.  相似文献

Root respiration consumes an important part of the daily assimilated carbon but the magnitude of this component of forest net ecosystem exchange and its partitioning among the different energy demanding processes in roots are still poorly documented. 5-month old Eucalyptus cuttings were grown in a greenhouse in pot filled with coarse sand. They were fertilized with three different amounts of a slow-release fertilizer with the doses of 8, 24 and 48 g of nitrogen per plant. Root respiration was measured using an infrared gas analyser by perfusing air through the pot on 9 plants per treatment on three dates 14 days apart. Measure of root respiration of the three treatments over time was made in order to obtain a large range of growth and nutrient uptake. Root respiration normalized at 22°C ranged from 0.09 to 0.23 gC d?1 for the three treatments during all the experiment. It was well predicted with a model that includes root growth rate and root nitrogen content.The nitrogen related maintenance coefficient was negatively correlated to the root nitrogen concentration suggesting a decrease in protein turnover with increasing fertility. Growth rate of fine root in a virtual stand was simulated using age-related allometric equations and further used to estimate root respiration in the field. Simulated root respiration increased over time from 0.39 to 3.14 gC m?2 d?1 between 6 and 126 months assuming a turnover of 2 yr?1 for fine roots. The major fraction of simulated root respiration in the field (78–92%) was used for the maintenance of the existing biomass.  相似文献
