A detailed investigation of the effect of hole transport material (HTM) pore filling on the photovoltaic performance of solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (ss‐DSCs) and the specific mechanisms involved is reported. It is demonstrated that the efficiency and photovoltaic characteristics of ss‐DSCs improve with the pore filling fraction (PFF) of the HTM, 2,2’,7,7’‐tetrakis‐(N, N ‐di‐ p ‐methoxyphenylamine)9,9’‐spirobifluorene(spiro‐OMeTAD). The mechanisms through which the improvement of photovoltaic characteristics takes place were studied with transient absorption spectroscopy and transient photovoltage/photocurrent measurements. It is shown that as the spiro‐OMeTAD PFF is increased from 26% to 65%, there is a higher hole injection efficiency from dye cations to spiro‐OMeTAD because more dye molecules are covered with spiro‐OMeTAD, an order‐of‐magnitude slower recombination rate because holes can diffuse further away from the dye/HTM interface, and a 50% higher ambipolar diffusion coefficient due to an improved percolation network. Device simulations predict that if 100% PFF could be achieved for thicker devices, the efficiency of ss‐DSCs using a conventional ruthenium‐dye would increase by 25% beyond its current value.  相似文献

Recurrence is a major complication of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea and occurs in 15 to 20% of patients after discontinuation of therapy. Strains from 53 patients with Clostridium difficile recurrences were fingerprinted by PCR ribotyping. Reinfection with a different strain occurred in 15 out of 53 patients (28,3%), while 38 patients relapsed. These data suggest the need to perform molecular typing for implementation of infection control procedures and for a more appropriate therapeutic strategy.  相似文献

Stimulation of the tail nerve (pedal nerve 9, p9) of the mollusk, Aplysia californica, causes release of serotonin (5-HT), which mediates sensitization of withdrawal responses. There are about 35 serotonin-immunoreactive (5-HT-ir) axons in p9, yet the cell bodies of these axons have not been located. Backfills of p9 were combined with 5-HT immunohistochemistry to locate the cell bodies of 5-HT-ir neurons with axons in p9. About 100 neurons had axons in p9. Only about ten neurons, however, were both backfilled and 5-HT-ir. These double-labeled neurons were all located in the pedal ganglion associated with p9, which had a total of approximately 42 5-HT-ir somata. The discrepancy between the number of 5-HT-ir axons and double-labeled cell bodies is not likely due to neurons having multiple axons in the nerve; intracellular fills suggest that these neurons do not branch before entering p9. Additionally, no evidence was found for peripheral 5-HT-ir cell bodies that project axons centrally through p9. Thus, approximately 70% of the neurons that give rise to the 5-HT-ir axons in tail nerve are unaccounted for, but likely to reside in the pedal ganglion.  相似文献

Question: What is the effect of climate change on tree species abundance and distribution in the Italian peninsula? Location: Italian peninsula. Methods: Regression tree analysis, Random Forest, generalized additive model and geostatistical methods were compared to identify the best model for quantifying the effect of climate change on tree species distribution and abundance. Future potential species distribution, richness, local colonization, local extinction and species turnover were modelled according to two scenarios (A2 and B1) for 2050 and 2080. Results: Robust Random Forest proved to be the best statistical model to predict the potential distribution of tree species abundance. Climate change could lead to a shift in tree species distribution towards higher altitudes and a reduction of forest cover. Pinus sylvestris and Tilia cordata may be considered at risk of local extinction, while the other species could find potential suitable areas at the cost of a rearrangement of forest community composition and increasing competition. Conclusions: Geographical and topographical regional characteristics can have a noticeable influence on the impact of predicted climate change on forest ecosystems within the Mediterranean basin. It would be highly beneficial to create a standardized and harmonized European forest inventory in order to evaluate, at high resolution, the effect of climate change on forest ecosystems, identify regional differences and develop specific adaptive management strategies and plans.  相似文献

Background

Genome-wide association studies of pooled DNA samples were shown to be a valuable tool to identify candidate SNPs associated to a phenotype. No such study was up to now applied to childhood allergic asthma, even if the very high complexity of asthma genetics is an appropriate field to explore the potential of pooled GWAS approach.

Methodology/Principal Findings

We performed a pooled GWAS and individual genotyping in 269 children with allergic respiratory diseases comparing allergic children with and without asthma. We used a modular approach to identify the most significant loci associated with asthma by combining silhouette statistics and physical distance method with cluster-adapted thresholding. We found 97% concordance between pooled GWAS and individual genotyping, with 36 out of 37 top-scoring SNPs significant at individual genotyping level. The most significant SNP is located inside the coding sequence of C5, an already identified asthma susceptibility gene, while the other loci regulate functions that are relevant to bronchial physiopathology, as immune- or inflammation-mediated mechanisms and airway smooth muscle contraction. Integration with gene expression data showed that almost half of the putative susceptibility genes are differentially expressed in experimental asthma mouse models.

Conclusion/Significance

Combined silhouette statistics and cluster-adapted physical distance threshold analysis of pooled GWAS data is an efficient method to identify candidate SNP associated to asthma development in an allergic pediatric population.  相似文献

Choice variety is supposed to increase the likelihood that a chooser's preferences are satisfied. To assess the effects of variety on real-world mate choice, we analysed human dating decisions across 84 speed-dating events (events in which people go on a series of sequential 'mini-dates'). Results showed that choosers made fewer proposals (positive dating decisions) at events in which the available dates showed greater variety across such attributes as age, height, occupation and education, and this effect was particularly strong when choosers were confronted with a larger number of opposite-sex speed daters. Additionally, participants attending events in which the available options showed greater variety across these attributes were less likely to choose the consensually preferred mate option and more likely to choose no one at all. In contexts in which time is a limited resource, choice variety-rather than facilitating choice quality or increasing choosiness-is confusing and potentially detrimental to choice quality.  相似文献

BTB-kelch proteins can elicit diverse biological functions but very little is known about the physiological role of these proteins in vivo. Kelch-like protein 6 (KLHL6) is a BTB-kelch protein with a lymphoid tissue-restricted expression pattern. In the B-lymphocyte lineage, KLHL6 is expressed throughout ontogeny, and KLHL6 expression is strongly upregulated in germinal center (GC) B cells. To analyze the role of KLHL6 in vivo, we have generated mouse mutants of KLHL6. Development of pro- and pre-B cells was normal but numbers of subsequent stages, transitional 1 and 2, and mature B cells were reduced in KLHL6-deficient mice. The antigen-dependent GC reaction was blunted (smaller GCs, reduced B-cell expansion, and reduced memory antibody response) in the absence of KLHL6. Comparison of mutants with global loss of KLHL6 to mutants lacking KLHL6 specifically in B cells demonstrated a B-cell-intrinsic requirement for KLHL6 expression. Finally, B-cell antigen receptor (BCR) cross-linking was less sensitive in KLHL6-deficient B cells compared to wild-type B cells as measured by proliferation, Ca2+ response, and activation of phospholipase Cgamma2. Our results strongly point to a role for KLHL6 in BCR signal transduction and formation of the full germinal center response.  相似文献

Over the last few years there has been a growing interest in geriatric oncology, mainly because of the evidence that advanced age is the greatest risk factor for the development of cancer and that, since the elderly population is rapidly expanding, so too will the number of cancer patients. This forecast necessitates the development of new and more specific strategies for the prevention and cure of cancer in the elderly and as a result an ever-increasing need for oncologists, geriatricians and researchers to work closely together. The increased incidence of cancer in elderly people has been related to the age-associated changes occurring in the immune system, the so-called immunosenescence. This phenomenon is best characterised by a remodelling of the immune system, which appears early on and progresses throughout a persons life and mainly involves a decrease in cellular functions. This review aims to provide a rationale for the development of specific immunotherapeutic and immunopreventive regimens for the elderly. We also include a discussion on the influence that immunosenescence has on the growth of tumours and the effectiveness of immunogene therapy and cancer vaccination following a brief analysis of the age-related alterations of the cell populations involved in antitumour immunity.  相似文献
