The effect of six phosphorus levels (0, 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 kg/ha) on the duration of cumulative leaf area, biomass and agronomic yield was determined in the maize cultivars: Amarillo Almoloya, Cacahuacintle and Condor in 2010 and 2011. Such cultivars were sown in the Cerrillo Piedras Blancas Mexico. A completely randomized complete block design with factorial arrangement was utilized. High phosphorus levels (120, 160 and 200 kg/ha) positively affected the duration of cumulative leaf area; greatest values were obtained in Cacahuacintle. A greater duration of accumulated leaf area contributes to determine high values of biomass accumulation and grain yield in this cultivar. Leaf area duration appeared to be a useful tool for evaluating different genotypes in a given environment.  相似文献

Classically, two neurotransmitters in the brain have been implicated in thermoregulation: 5-hydroxytryptamine and norepinephrine. A dopamine action is less well-known and usually has been studied by means of pharmacological rather than physiological procedures. In the present work using a physiological approach to the problem, the role of different central dopaminergic systems in the thermoregulatory response of rats exposed to cold (4 degrees C) or warm (45 degrees C) environments has been studied. Rostral incertohypothalamic neurons in the medial preoptic area synthesized and released more dopamine in response to a warm but not to a cold environment. On the other hand DA and DOPAC levels in nigrostriatal systems were decreased by cold but not warm environments. The dopaminergic neurons projecting to nucleus accumbens or hypothalamus do not appear to be related to the thermoregulatory response in the rat.  相似文献

Bacterial pathogens often subvert the innate immune system to establish a successful infection. The direct inhibition of downstream components of innate immune pathways is particularly well documented but how bacteria interfere with receptor proximal events is far less well understood. Here, we describe a Toll/interleukin 1 receptor (TIR) domain‐containing protein (PumA) of the multi‐drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA7 strain. We found that PumA is essential for virulence and inhibits NF‐κB, a property transferable to non‐PumA strain PA14, suggesting no additional factors are needed for PumA function. The TIR domain is able to interact with the Toll‐like receptor (TLR) adaptors TIRAP and MyD88, as well as the ubiquitin‐associated protein 1 (UBAP1), a component of the endosomal‐sorting complex required for transport I (ESCRT‐I). These interactions are not spatially exclusive as we show UBAP1 can associate with MyD88, enhancing its plasma membrane localization. Combined targeting of UBAP1 and TLR adaptors by PumA impedes both cytokine and TLR receptor signalling, highlighting a novel strategy for innate immune evasion.  相似文献

Ventricular tachycardia, a life-threatening regular and repetitive fast heart rhythm, frequently occurs in the setting of myocardial infarction. Recently, the peri-infarct zones surrounding the necrotic scar (termed gray zones) have been shown to correlate with ventricular tachycardia inducibility. However, it remains unknown how the latter is determined by gray zone distribution and size. The goal of this study is to examine how tachycardia circuits are maintained in the infarcted heart and to explore the relationship between the tachycardia organizing centers and the infarct gray zone size and degree of heterogeneity. To achieve the goals of the study, we employ a sophisticated high-resolution electrophysiological model of the infarcted canine ventricles reconstructed from imaging data, representing both scar and gray zone. The baseline canine ventricular model was also used to generate additional ventricular models with different gray zone sizes, as well as models in which the gray zone was represented as different heterogeneous combinations of viable tissue and necrotic scar. The results of the tachycardia induction simulations with a number of high-resolution canine ventricular models (22 altogether) demonstrated that the gray zone was the critical factor resulting in arrhythmia induction and maintenance. In all models with inducible arrhythmia, the scroll-wave filaments were contained entirely within the gray zone, regardless of its size or the level of heterogeneity of its composition. The gray zone was thus found to be the arrhythmogenic substrate that promoted wavebreak and reentry formation. We found that the scroll-wave filament locations were insensitive to the structural composition of the gray zone and were determined predominantly by the gray zone morphology and size. The findings of this study have important implications for the advancement of improved criteria for stratifying arrhythmia risk in post-infarction patients and for the development of new approaches for determining the ablation targets of infarct-related tachycardia.  相似文献

A 36K MW polypeptide was previously identified by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis whose relative proportion increases in S phase of HeLa cells, and following viral transformation of mouse 3T3B and hamster BHK21 cells. We report here experiments that show that this polypeptide (isoelectric focusing (IEF 49)) is localized in the nucleus and that its relative proportion decreases dramatically under conditions for which there is a decrease in the rate of cell proliferation, due for example, to the formation of giant HeLa cells by X-ray irradiation or the senescence of human skin fibroblasts. It is present in negligible amounts in non-cycling cells of adult tissues. These studies also revealed and unrelated cytoplasmic polypeptide (IEF 52; tropomyosin related; coordinates 35/1.43) whose relative proportion increased significantly and reproducibly with a decrease in the rate of cell proliferation. It is suggested that IEF 49 may be a useful marker for cycling cells.  相似文献

By reviewing 3,506 autopsy records to determine the prevalence of gallbladder disease among San Francisco county coroner cases for 1981 and 1982, we found an overall prevalence rate of 92.7 per 1,000. After confirming age as a significant risk factor (P ≤.0001), the data were age adjusted and then analyzed using a stepwise logistic regression. Women were found to have a twofold to threefold greater prevalence compared with men. Latina women showed a higher prevalence than whites, blacks or Asians. Black women did not have a significantly higher prevalence than the white sample. Actual to ideal weight was also significantly related to the presence of gallbladder disease.  相似文献

New insight into the biomechanics of cancer cell motility in 3D extracellular matrix (ECM) environments would significantly enhance our understanding of aggressive cancers and help identify new targets for intervention. While several methods for measuring the forces involved in cell-matrix interactions have been developed, previous to this study none have been able to measure forces in a fibrillar environment. We have developed a novel assay for simultaneously measuring cell mechanotransduction and motility in 3D fibrillar environments. The assay consists of a controlled-density fibrillar collagen gel atop a controlled-stiffness polyacrylamide (PAA) surface. Forces generated by living cells and their migration in the 3D collagen gel were measured with the 3D motion of tracer beads within the PAA layer. Here, this 3D fibril force assay is used to study the role of the invasion-associated protein kinase Src in mechanotransduction and motility. Src expression and activation are linked with proliferation, invasion, and metastasis, and have been shown to be required in 2D for invadopodia membranes to direct and mediate invasion. Breast cancer cell line MDA-MD-231 was stably transfected with GFP-tagged constitutively active Src or wild-type Src. In 3D fibrillar collagen matrices we found that, relative to wild-type Src, constitutively active Src: 1) increased the strength of cell-induced forces on the ECM, 2) did not significantly change migration speed, and 3) increased both the duration and the length, but not the number, of long membrane protrusions. Taken together, these results support the hypothesis that Src controls invasion by controlling the ability of the cell to form long lasting cellular protrusions to enable penetration through tissue barriers, in addition to its role in promoting invadopodia matrix-degrading activity.  相似文献
