Embolectomy is one of the emergency procedures performed to remove emboli. Assessing the composition of human blood clots is an important diagnostic factor and could provide guidance for an appropriate treatment strategy for interventional physicians. Immunostaining has been used to identity compositions of clots as a gold-standard procedure, but it is time-consuming and cannot be performed in situ. Here, we proposed that the optical attenuation coefficient of optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be a reliable indicator as a new imaging modality to differentiate clot compositions. Fifteen human blood clots with multiple red blood cell (RBC) compositions from 21% to 95% were prepared using healthy human whole blood. A homogeneous gelatin phantom experiment and numerical simulation based on the Lambert–Beer's law were examined to verify the validity of the attenuation coefficient estimation. The results displayed that optical attenuation coefficients were strongly correlated with RBC compositions. We reported that attenuation coefficients could be a promising biomarker to guide the choice of an appropriate interventional device in a clinical setting and assist in characterizing blood clots. 相似文献

There are 370 000 kilometres of roads in Great Britain, mostly bordered by a verge that is potential habitat for small mammals. The present study assessed the importance of road verges as small mammal habitat and investigated the influence of some key features on rodent abundance. Five rodent and three shrew species were live‐trapped on 14 road verges in late summer 1994 and nine verges in autumn 1996 in north Cambridgeshire, UK. On average, between three and four species were captured per verge. Bank Voles Clethrionomys glareolus, Wood Mice Apodemus sylvaticus and Field Voles Microtus agrestis were the most abundant species, with mean densities of 45.5, 40.2 and 29.5 animals km–1 in summer and 52.8, 181.9 and 47.2 animals km–1 in autumn. Numbers varied between verges and this was significantly correlated with particular features on the verge. Bank Vole and Field Vole numbers showed a significant positive correlation with the dimensions of hedges and the width of the tall grass area, respectively. Wood Mice were also more numerous on verges with big hedges but the relationship between mouse abundance and verge structure was complex. The number of mice in 1994 was positively and significantly correlated with hedge features and with the width of the short grass sightline, whereas, in autumn 1996, they were only significantly correlated with total verge width (positive association) and ditch width (negative association). 相似文献

The maintenance of the beneficial plant microbiome to control plant pathogens is an emerging concept of disease management, and necessitates a clear understanding of these microbial communities and the environmental factors that affect their diversity and compositional structure. As such, studies investigating the microbiome of economically significant cultivars within each growing region are necessary to develop adequate disease management strategies. Here, we assessed the relative impacts of growing season, management strategy, and geographical location on the fungal microbiome of ‘Honeycrisp’ apples from seven different orchard locations in the Atlantic Maritime Ecozone for two consecutive growing years. Though apple fruit tissue was dominated by relatively few fungal genera, significant changes in their fungal communities were observed as a result of environmental factors, including shifts in genera with plant-associated lifestyles (symbionts and pathogens), such as Aureobasidium, Alternaria, Penicillium, Diplodia, and Mycosphaerella. Variation in fungal composition between different tissues of fruit was also observed. We demonstrate that growing season is the most significant factor affecting fungal community structure and diversity of apple fruit, suggesting that future microbiome studies should take place for multiple growing seasons to better represent the host–microbiome of perennial crops under different environmental conditions. 相似文献

The efficacy of condensed distiller's solubles (CDS), a co-product of ethanol production from corn, rich in organic matter, and high in carbon to nitrogen ratio, was tested as a pre-plant amendment against Verticillium wilt of eggplant and potato scab in potato soils from commercial fields and against damping-off diseases of radish and cucumber seedlings in a peat-based mix and muck soil. Eggplants grown in a potato soil amended with CDS (1% mass/mass) showed less Verticillium wilt and increased fresh (37-54%) and dry (31-45%) plant biomass compared to the control in the greenhouse. In a potato soil with medium levels of disease, CDS (1 or 2%) increased the percentage of marketable tubers by 116% under greenhouse, 119% under micro-plot and 75% under field conditions. In the growth room, CDS (1, 2, and 4%) amendment to a peat-based mix infested with Rhizoctonia solani 1 week before planting seeds improved the percentage of healthy radish seedlings (22-72% healthy seedlings compared to 2% in the control). Levels of disease suppression increased with the incubation time prior to planting. Disease control effect of CDS was not consistent between different batches of peat-based mix. In a non-suppressive batch of peat-based mix, disease suppression by CDS was enhanced by a bio-control agent, Trichoderma hamatum 382. In muck soil from a commercial field naturally-infested with Pythium spp., CDS (0.25, 0.5, and 1%) provided protection of cucumber seedlings from damping-off immediately after incorporation, but the maximum protection was seen after 1 week with all three rates. The number of total bacteria was enhanced in the CDS-amended muck soil. In the micro-plots, CDS (0.5 and 1%) as an amendment to muck soil 2 weeks before planting improved the percentage of healthy cucumber seedlings and fresh plant weight compared to the control. Four isolates of Gram-negative facultatively anaerobic bacteria, three of them producing NDM-1 carbapenemase, were isolated from hospitalized patients and outpatients attending two military hospitals in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and studied for their taxonomic position. Initially the strains were phenotypically identified as Citrobacter species. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences then showed that the four strains shared >97%, but in no case >98.3%, 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities to members of the genera Citrobacter, Kluyvera, Pantoea, Enterobacter and Raoultella, but always formed a separate cluster in respective phylogenetic trees. Based on multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) including partial recN, rpoA, thdF and rpoB gene sequence and respective amino acid sequence analysis it turned out that the strains also here always formed separate clusters. Based on further comparative analyses including DNA–DNA hybridizations, genomic fingerprint analysis using rep- and RAPD-PCRs and physiological tests, it is proposed to classify these four strains into the novel genus Pseudocitrobacter gen. nov. with a new species Pseudocitrobacter faecalis sp. nov. with strain 25 CITT (= CCM 8479T = LMG 27751T) and Pseudocitrobacter anthropi sp. nov. with strain C138T (= CCM 8478T = LMG 27750T), as the type strains, respectively. 相似文献
