The inclusion complexation of pyrimethamine in 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin has been investigated by 2D (1)H NMR, FTIR and UV/visible spectroscopy and also by molecular modelling methods (AM1, PM3, MM3). From the phase-solubility diagram a linear increase was observed in pyrimethamine aqueous solubility in the presence of 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin, evidencing the formation of a soluble inclusion complex. According to the continuous variation method (Job's plot) applied to fluorescence measurements, a 1:1 stoichiometry has been proposed for the complex. Concerning the structure of the complex, a Cl-in orientation of pyrimethamine in the 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin cavity has been proposed from the theoretical calculations, being confirmed by two-dimensional (1)H NMR spectroscopy (ROESY). The viability of a formulation of Duddingtonia flagrans was assessed in the control of parasite gastrointestinal nematodes of cattle. Two groups (A and B) of eight crossbred Holstein × Zebu
cattle, approximately one year old, were placed in Brachiaria decumbens pasture. Each animal in group B (treated) received orally 20 g sodium alginate pellets containing mycelial mass of the D. flagrans fungus, while the animals in the group A (control) received pellets without fungus for seven months, starting in March 2005.
The egg per gram of feces counting the gastrointestinal nematodes showed a difference (P < 0.05) in the treated group in June, July and August, with reductions of 58% (June), 47% (July) and 51% (August) compared
to the control group. The infective larvae recovered in the pastures collected up to 20 cm from distance of the fecal dung
in group B differed (P < 0.01) from the larvae recovered in group A. At the end of the experimental period, the animals in group B presented a greater
weight gain (P < 0.01) compared to the untreated group (A). The treatment of cattle with pellets containing the D. flagrans nematophagous fungus, at the dose and duration used was effective in controlling the infective larvae of gastrointestinal

Effect of composted textile sludge on growth, nodulation and nitrogen fixation of soybean and cowpea
The effect of composted textile sludge on growth, nodulation and nitrogen fixation of soybean and cowpea was evaluated in a greenhouse experiment. The compost was incorporated into soil at 0, 9.5, 19 and 38 t ha(-1) (bases upon the N requirement of the crops, i.e., 0, 50, 100 and 200 kg available N ha(-1)). Growth, nodulation and shoot accumulation of nitrogen were evaluated 36 and 63 days after plant emergence. Nodule glutamine synthetase (GS) activity and leghemoglobin content were evaluated 63 days after emergence. Composted textile sludge did not show negative effects on nodule number and weight, nodule GS activity and leghemoglobin content. Nitrogen accumulation in shoot dry matter in soybean and cowpea was higher than other treatments with application of 19 t ha(-1) of compost. Composting can be an alternate technology for the management of solid textile mill sludge. This study verifies that the composted textile sludge was not harmful to growth, nodulation and nitrogen fixation of soybean and cowpea. 相似文献

The radiobiocomplexes labeled with technetium-99m (Tc-99m) have been widely used in nuclear medicine in single photon emission computed tomography and in basic research. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of a Nectandra membranacea extract on the bioavailability of the sodium pertechnetate (Na(99m)TcO(4)) radiobiocomplex in rat organs. The animals were treated with a N. membranacea extract (30 mg/ ml), for 6 days. Na(99m)TcO(4) was injected, the organs were isolated and weighed, and the radioactivity was determined in each organ (%ATI/organ). The %ATI/organ was divided by the mass of each organ to calculate the %ATI/g. A significant increase of the %ATI/organ of Na(99m)TcO(4) was observed in muscle and thyroid as well as in the %ATI/g in the heart, kidney and thyroid. These findings could result from the interaction between components of the plant extract and the radiobiocomplex which may influence the uptake Na(99m)TcO(4) in rat organs. Therefore, precaution is suggested in the interpretation of nuclear medicine results in patients using this herb. 相似文献

Candida albicans is an opportunistic pathogen that is of growing medical importance because it causes superficial, mucosal and systemic infections in susceptible individuals. Here, the effect of suramin, a polysulfonated naphthylurea derivative, on C. albicans development and virulence was evaluated. Firstly, it was demonstrated that suramin (500 microM) arrested its growth, showing a fungicidal action dependent on cell number. Suramin treatment caused profound changes in the yeast ultrastructure as shown by transmission electron microscopy. The more important changes were the enlargement of the fungi cytoplasmic vacuoles, the appearance of yeasts with an empty cytoplasm resembling ghost cells and a reduction in cell wall thickness. Suramin also blocked the transformation of yeast cells to the germ-tube and the interaction between C. albicans and epithelial cells. In order to ascertain that the action of suramin on C. albicans growth is a general feature instead of being strain-specific, the effects of suramin on 14 oral clinical strains isolated from healthy children and HIV-positive infants were analyzed. Interestingly, the strains of C. albicans isolated from HIV-positive patients were more resistant to suramin than strains isolated from healthy patients. Altogether, the results produced here show that suramin interfered with essential fungal processes, such as growth, differentiation and interaction with host cells. 相似文献

This study was designed to detect tissue non-specific alkaline phosphatase (TNSALP) by Azo-dye staining, calcium by glyoxal
bis (2-hydroxyanil) (GBHA) staining, bone sialoprotein (BSP) and osteopontin (OPN) by immunoperoxidase staining in developing
rat molars, and also to discuss the mineralization process during acellular cementogenesis. To restrain a reduction in histochemical
and immunohistochemical reactions, fresh-frozen undemineralized sections were prepared. Where the epithelial sheath was intact,
TNSALP reaction was observed in the dental follicle, but not in the epithelial sheath. With the onset of dentin mineralization,
the BSP- and OPN-immunoreactive, initial cementum layer appeared. At this point, cementoblasts had shown intense TNSALP reaction
and GBHA reactive particles (=calcium-GBHA complex) appeared on the root surface. With further development, the reaction of
TNSALP and GBHA became weak on the root surface. Previous studies have shown that the initial cementum is fibril-poor and
that matrix vesicles and calciferous spherules appear on the root surface only during the initial cementogenesis. The findings
mentioned above suggest that: during the initial cementogenesis, cementoblasts release matrix vesicles which result in calciferous
spherules, corresponding to the GBHA reactive particles. The calciferous spherules trigger the mineralization of the initial

During the studies involving the correlation between the water temperature of the breeding site of Simulium pertinax larvae and the infection prevalence by microsporidia, developed in the Andorinhas river, Magé, RJ, weekly samples of blackfly larvae were taken within a two-year period (2001-2002 and 2003-2004), and it was noticed that the infections by Amblyospora sp. were more prevalent when compared to infections by Polydispyrenia sp. in larvae. It was also observed that the infections do not follow the same pattern, since the genus Amblyospora was recorded almost every month during the study with the exception of December, 2001. In the results of correlation between the environmental water temperature and the microsporidia infection rates, it was observed that for the first period studied, there was a high negative correlation, while during the second period there was absence correlation. On the other hand, the Amblyospora sp. infection rates prove that the correlation was high and significant in the first period, but was not significant in the second sampling period and Polydispyrenia sp. showed absence correlation in both periods. 相似文献

Biomass and population structure of Constrictotermes cyphergaster (Silvestri) were studied in an area of dry forest of caatinga in the State of Paraiba, northeastern Brazil. Twelve nests of different sizes were randomly collected, being six during the dry season (November 2004 and 2005) and six during the wet season (March 2004). Soldier and worker populations varied between 4880 and 118800 individuals per nest. The ratio between soldiers and workers did not significantly vary between seasons. Biomass (measured as fresh weight) of individuals varied between 13.9 and 408.8 g per nest, and soldiers and workers had significantly greater biomass during the wet season. The estimated density of nests of C. cyphergaster was 59.0 +/- 22.53 active nests/ha. Quantitative data of the study colonies and data on the nest abundance showed that C. cyphergaster encompassed some 278.2 individuals/m(2), with approximately 0.9 g (fresh weight)/m(2). These data suggest that C. cyphergaster is an important consumer of vegetal matter and, therefore, an important species affecting the nutrient cycling and energy flow in the caatinga vegetation. 相似文献
