In thin sections of wheat rachis and stem, embedded in Spurr's resin, prefixed with glutaraldehyde and postfixed with osmium, large amounts of barley thionins were localized in cell walls with anti-thionin-protein A/gold. Reduced binding to thionin was detected in cell walls penetrated by Fusarium culmorum, suggesting that cell wall thionins were degraded by the fungus.  相似文献

The reduction of hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), to trivalent chromium, Cr(III), can be an important aspect of remediation processes at contaminated sites. Cellulomonas species are found at several Cr(VI) contaminated and uncontaminated locations at the Department of Energy site in Hanford, Washington. Members of this genus have demonstrated the ability to effectively reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III) fermentatively and therefore play a potential role in Cr(VI) remediation at this site. Batch studies were conducted with Cellulomonas sp. strain ES6 to assess the influence of various carbon sources, iron minerals, and electron shuttling compounds on Cr(VI) reduction rates as these chemical species are likely to be present in, or added to, the environment during in situ bioremediation. Results indicated that the type of carbon source as well as the type of electron shuttle present influenced Cr(VI) reduction rates. Molasses stimulated Cr(VI) reduction more effectively than pure sucrose, presumably due to presence of more easily utilizable sugars, electron shuttling compounds or compounds with direct Cr(VI) reduction capabilities. Cr(VI) reduction rates increased with increasing concentration of anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQDS) regardless of the carbon source. The presence of iron minerals and their concentrations did not significantly influence Cr(VI) reduction rates. However, strain ES6 or AQDS could directly reduce surface-associated Fe(III) to Fe(II), which was capable of reducing Cr(VI) at a near instantaneous rate. These results suggest the rate limiting step in these systems was the transfer of electrons from strain ES6 to the intermediate or terminal electron acceptor whether that was Cr(VI), Fe(III), or AQDS.  相似文献

Essential oils (EOs) are products of secondary metabolism with recognized organoleptic characteristics and biological properties. Recently, there has been a growing demand for EOs in the national and international market, mainly due to the recognition of their use as complementary medicine practices, and the increased use in the industries of pharmaceutics, cosmetics, well-being, veterinary and agroecology, boosting the productive sector. In this context, EOs from grasses of the Cymbopogon (Poaceae) are promising sources of bioactive compounds, due to their recognized biological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antidiabetic, repellent, and larvicide. Thus, the present study aims to carry out a review of the scientific literature of the main works related to the evaluation of the antifungal action of essential oils extracted from plants of the Cymbopogon genus, compiling the species that showed the best results and relating them to their main chemical constituents. This review covers the following species: C. citratus, C. flexuosus, C. winterianus, C. martinii, C. nardus, C. giganteus, C. schoenanthus, C. khasans, and C. proximus. Among them, C. citratus was the most assessed, being associated with the vast majority of studies (61.9 %), and it was also the species that showed the best results in terms of MIC.  相似文献

The rates at which ions (86Rb+, [3H]-choline, 36Cl), 3H2O and nonelectrolytes ([14C]-urea, [14C]-glycerol, and [14C]-sugars) equilibrate across track-etched polyethyleneterephthalate (PETP) membranes (isotopic diffusion) have been measured by a `static' and a `dynamic' technique under conditions where no net flow takes place; the two techniques give essentially the same results. All tracers diffuse faster the longer the membranes are etched, consistent with an increase in pore size. Water and neutral solutes diffuse at rates that are relatively independent of ionic strength, pH or the presence of divalent cations. Diffusion of cations is decreased by high ionic strength, by reducing pH or by addition of divalent catons; diffusion of chloride is increased by these procedures. Treatment of the membrane with diazomethane to reduce the negative fixed charge decreases diffusion of cations and increases that of anions; diffusion of water and neutral solutes is unaffected by methylation except in the membranes with the narrowest pores (i.e., those etched for the shortest time), in which case diffusion is reduced. We conclude (1) that the special features of flow near a charged surface apply to ions but not to water or nonelectrolytes and (2) that calculation of absolute rates of diffusion leads to values for the radii of pores through track-etched PETP membranes that are in remarkably good agreement with measured values.
