This research deals with the exploitation of highly available and renewable marine biomass, Posidonia oceanica (L.) fibres as low cost biosorbent for the removal of metal-complexed textile dyestuff from aqueous medium, and the investigation of the probably involved physiochemical mechanisms. Experiments were carried out in batch reactor. Firstly, the adsorption process was studied as a function of initial solution pH and contact time under different initial dye concentration. The results showed that the highest dye adsorption capacity was found at pH 2 under a constant temperature of 30 °C, and the equilibrium state was reached within 48 h of exposure time. Secondly, several adsorption kinetic models were applied to fit the experimental data, namely Lagergren irreversible first-order, Reversible first-order, Pseudo-second-order, Elovich, Ritchie and intraparticle diffusion models. The proposed explanations were deduced from the theoretical assumptions behind the most appropriate model(s), which could satisfactorily describe the present biosorption phenomenon. The interpretation of the related results have shown that, with R2 of about 99%, the pseudo-second order model is the most suitable dynamic theory describing the biosorption of metal complex dye onto P. oceanica fibres, predicting therefore a chemisorption process. 相似文献

Salt marsh plants were tested for their insecticidal activities against larvae of the confused flour beetle Tribolium confusum (Tenebrionidae). 16 aerial part extracts were obtained using organic solvents of increasing polarity and tested for their anti-feedant and toxicity effects. Responses varied with plant material and extract type. Ethyl acetate extracts of F. laevis, S. echioides and. T. boveana and petroleum ether extract of F. laevis presented, anti-feedant property. However, S. fructicosa seemed to be attractive to the tested flour beetle. Mortalities of 97, 87, 97 and 80% were observed by using respectively ethyl acetate extracts of F. laevis, S. echioides and T. boveana and petroleum ether extract of F. laevis, when applied at a dose of 1%, mixed with the insect diet. This preliminary study showed that F. laevis, S. echioides and T. boveana presented potential bio-insecticidal activity with ethyl acetate extracts, similar result was found with petroleum ether extract of F. laevis. More complementary studies are needed for the use of these extracts to control T. confusum. 相似文献

Lipoprotein (a) is a new independent coronary risk factor, but the role of lipoprotein (a) in type 2 diabetes remains controversial. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the relationship between the level of lipoprotein (a) and the coronary artery diseases (CAD) in type 2 diabetes. Recruitment was carried out in 3 groups of patients: Group 1: 110 control subjects, Group 2: 115 diabetics (D), Group 3: 105 diabetics with CAD (DC). The mean age was, 51 + 7; 52 + 6; 56 + 6 respectively. Total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, LDL-C, Apo A-I, Apo B and lipoprotein (a) were measured for the patients. The Lp (a) level was significantly higher in the diabetic groups as compared to the controls (p < 0.05), but this level was different between D and DC: 312 + 232 vs 347.8 + (NS). However, when the Lp (a) level is higher than 300 mg/ml, there is a significant difference between DC and D (53% vs 42% p = 0.05). There is no correlation between Lp level and total cholesterol; however, there is a significant variation of Lp (a) level with LDL-C (r = -0.14, P = 0.01). There is a negative correlation between Lp (a) and HDL-C (r = -0.13, p = 0.03), Lp (a) and ApoA-I (r = - 0.11, p = 0.05); but there is a positive correlation between Lp (a) and ApoB (r = 0.14, p = 0.02). Lp(a) level higher than 300 mg/L constitutes a coronary risk factor in type 2 diabetes. This contributes, with the other lipid disorders, to the increase of the coronary risk factors in diabetes. 相似文献

Herein, we report isolation of the AlTMP2 gene from the halophytic C4 grass Aeluropus littoralis. The subcellular localization suggested that AlTMP2 is a plasma membrane protein. In A. littoralis exposed to salt and osmotic stresses, the AlTMP2 gene was induced early and at a high rate, but was upregulated relatively later in response to abscisic acid and cold treatments. Expression of AlTMP2 in tobacco conferred improved tolerance against salinity, osmotic, H2O2, heat, and freezing stresses at the germination and seedling stages. Under control conditions, no growth or yield penalty were mentioned in transgenic plants due to the constitutive expression of AlTMP2. Interestingly, under greenhouse conditions, the seed yield of transgenic plants was significantly higher than that of non-transgenic (NT) plants grown under salt or drought stress. Furthermore, AlTMP2 plants had less electrolyte leakage, higher membrane stability, and lower Na+ and higher K+ accumulation than NT plants. Finally, six stress-related genes were shown to be deregulated in AlTMP2 plants relative to NT plants under both control and stress conditions. Collectively, these results indicate that AlTMP2 confers abiotic stress tolerance by improving ion homeostasis and membrane integrity, and by deregulating certain stress-related genes. 相似文献

In order to investigate the effect of salinity on the growth and photosynthesis of the wild wheat and wheat, three accessions of Aegilops geniculata from Ain Zana, Zaghouan and Sbitla and one variety of durum wheat (Triticum durum) were grown in the INRAT greenhouse and treated with different salinity levels. The growth of leaves, water status and gas exchange parameters have been measured at the reproductive stage. The flag leaf length, total leaf dry weight, water status, CO2 assimilation rate, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 and transpiration for the three Ae. geniculata accessions and wheat variety significantly decreased with increasing salt. The decline in photosynthesis measured in response to salt stress was proportionally greater than the declines in transpiration, resulting in a reduction of water-use efficiency, at both the leaf and whole-plant levels. Among the factors inhibiting photosynthetic activity, those of a stomatal nature had a greater effect. This study has shown a high degree of variation of these characters mainly related to geographical origin. It was observed also that Sbitla accession was less affected by the imposed salt stress than all the others while Ain Zana was the most affected one. 相似文献

Conyza sumatrensis (Retz.) E.Walker (Asteraceae) is a spontaneous annual herb, fairly widespread throughout Tunisia, which has rarely been studied or valued in any sector. Essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation of different parts (flower heads, leaves, stems, and roots) of C. sumatrensis plants, which were collected in autumn (November 2007) at the flowering stage in the area of Monastir, Tunisia. In total, 98 compounds, representing 88.1–99.3% of the oil composition, were identified by GC‐FID and GC/MS analyses. The root essential oil was distinguished by its high content in acetylenes (matricaria ester, 4 ; 74.3%), while those from flower heads and leaves were dominated by oxygenated sesquiterpenes (61.1 and 50.3%, resp.). The oils of C. sumatrensis from Tunisia belonged to a matricaria ester/caryophyllene oxide chemotype. All the oils were evaluated for antibacterial, antifungal, and allelopathic activities. The results indicate that the leaf oil exhibited significant in vitro antibacterial activity against Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Proteus mirabilis and that the C. sumatrensis oils isolated from the aerial parts presented high mycelia‐growth inhibition of Candida albicans and the filamentous fungi tested. Moreover, the essential oils of the different plant parts inhibited the shoot and root growth of Raphanus sativus (radish) seedlings. Indeed, the inhibition of the hypocotyl growth varied from 28.6 to 90.1% and that of the radicle from 42.3 to 96.2%. 相似文献

IntroductionPulmonary embolism during pregnancy is a leading cause of maternal mortality. The aim of our study was to evaluate pregnant women with suspected pulmonary embolism prevalence of lesions on the lung perfusion as well as the relationship between the parenchymal lesions and various clinical factors and biological risk.MethodsThis is a retrospective study of 116 pregnant patients referred for suspected pulmonary embolism. The median age was 30 years, ranging from 15 to 47 years and the median gestational term was 31 weeks with a range of 12 to 40 weeks. Suspicion of pulmonary embolism was established with the presence of clinical signs (dyspnea, chest pain and palpitations). No patient had received a chest radiograph. The patients underwent planar perfusion scintigraphy with injected activity of 40 to 50 MBq of macroaggregates of human albumin (MAA) labeled with 99mTc. The scintigraphic results were classified according to the PIOPED criteria, depending on the likelihood of EP. The scans with low or intermediate probability were included in the same group, that of indeterminate results.ResultsThe scan was positive (with high probability) in 16 patients (13.8%), normal in 78 patients (67.2%) and classified as inconclusive in 22 patients (18.9%). In 16 patients with a positive scan, the lesions were interested the left lung in 10 cases (62.5%), the right lung in 1 case (6.25%) and were bilateral in 5 cases (31.25%).ConclusionsIn cases of suspected pulmonary embolism in a pregnant woman, the choice of imaging technique depends on both its diagnostic value and also its adverse effects. Lung scintigraphy is the examination to be carried out first in pregnant women with a chest radiograph. In others, it is that angiography should be performed as first line. 相似文献

Cystic hydatid disease is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the cestode Echinococcus granulosus and represents a major public health problem in many countries around the world, including North Africa. E. granulosus exists as a series of genetic variants or strains which differ in a wide variety of criteria that impact on the epidemiology, pathology and control of cystic hydatid disease. Nucleotide sequencing of the mitochondrial rrnS gene was here used to characterize 38 E. granulosus isolates collected from different regions and hosts in Tunisia and Mauritania. The results obtained reveal a significant genetic differentiation between E. granulosus hydatid cysts identified as belonging to the G1 genotype and to the G6/G7 cluster using the rrnS gene as marker, and indicate the circulation of the common sheep strain (G1) in all host species from Tunisia and the camel/pig strain cluster (G6/G7) in camel from Mauritania. Other investigations, using this method, are necessary for further genetic analysis of a wider range of isolates from different host species in order to more fully understand the genetic structure of E. granulosus populations and their transmission dynamics in this and neighbouring African countries. 相似文献
