The two Old World genera, Phlebotomus and Sergentomyia, were both recorded in southern Anatolia in Turkey. Phlebotomus species predominated and comprised about 93% of the entire collection (3,172 specimens). Out of the sixteen species identified, two belonged to the genus Sergentomyia: S. dentata and S. theodori. The remaining fourteen species in the genus Phlebotomus were grouped under four subgenera including some species that are elsewhere known to act as vectors of human cutaneous leishmaniasis. Most of the Phlebotomus were P. tobbi (32.5%), but P. papatasi, P. transcaucasicus, P. halepensis, P. galilaeus, P. sergenti, P. syriacus, P. neglectus, P. simici, P. alexandri, P. similis, P jacusieli, P. perfiliewi, and P. brevis were also identified. There were two associations of sand fly fauna with altitudinal gradient; the first one at relatively higher altitudes and the second one at lower altitudes. The transition between these two assemblages was within the range of 800-1,000 m. It is likely that Adana and Hatay provinces are transitional areas between western and eastern Anatolia. Mountains do not appear to be important geographical barriers for sand fly distribution. We also found that the proven vector P. sergenti is a widely distributed species throughout southern Anatolia and this species, together with its closely related species P. similis, shows sympatry in Konya Province. 相似文献

We investigated the effects of lipopolysachharide (LPS) on functional and structural properties of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) during pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced epileptic seizures in rats. Arterial blood pressure was significantly elevated during epileptic seizures irrespective of LPS pretreatment. Plasma levels of interleukin (IL)-1, interleukin (IL)-6, nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) increased while catalase concentrations decreased in animals treated with LPS, PTZ and LPS plus PTZ. The significantly increased BBB permeability to Evans blue (EB) dye in the cerebral cortex, diencephalon and cerebellum regions of rats by PTZ-induced seizures was markedly reduced upon LPS pretreatment. Immunoreactivity for tight junction proteins, zonula occludens-1 and occludin, did not change in brain vessels of animals treated with PTZ and LPS plus PTZ. Glial fibrillary acidic protein immunoreactivity was increased in LPS, but not in PTZ and LPS plus PTZ. These results indicate that LPS pretreatment reduces the passage of EB dye bound to albumin into the brain, at least partly, by increasing plasma NO and IL-6 levels during PTZ-induced epileptic seizures. We suggest that LPS may provide protective effects on the BBB integrity during epileptic seizures through transcellular pathway, since the paracellular route remained unaffected by LPS and LPS plus PTZ. 相似文献

The wing shape and size morphology of populations of the medically important phlebotomine sand fly, Phlebotomus papatasi, were examined in two endemic (south of the Atlas Mountains) and nonendemic (north of the Atlas Mountains) foci of cutaneous leishmaniasis by using geometric morphometrics in Morocco. Although it is present in all of Morocco, P. papatasi is the main vector of Leishmania major in only southern part of the Atlas Mountains. There are four major mountain ranges that serve as geographical barriers for species distribution in the study area and at least four gaps were recognized among these barriers. We found statistically significant differences in wing shape morphology between southern and northern populations. Analysis clearly recognized two main groups of populations on both sides of the mountains. The graphical depiction of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Canonical Variates Analysis (CVA) confirmed our morphometric study suggesting that the difference in wing morphology between the populations indicates that the population of P. papatasi shows phenotypic plasticity in the study area. According to centroid size analyses, which were used as measures of wing size differences among different sites, the north population of P. papatasi had relatively larger wings than the south population. 相似文献

This study was designed to evaluate insulin resistance and plasma levels of visfatin and resistin in obese and non-obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).A total of 37 premenopausal PCOS patients with (n = 18, mean (SD) age: 27.5 (5.7 years) or without obesity (n = 19, mean (SD) age: 23.7 (3.1) years) and healthy volunteers (n = 18, mean (SD) age:29.8 (4.1) years) were included in this study. Data on clinical characteristics, glycemic parameters and lipid parameters were recorded for each subject as were plasma visfatin and resistin levels. Mean (SD) HOMA-IR values were significantly higher in obese PCOS patients (3.4 (1.7)) compared with non-obese PCOS patients (2.0 (1.2), p<0.01) and controls (1.6 (0.8), p<0.01). No significant difference was noted between study groups in terms of plasma resistin (ng/mL) or visfatin (ng/mL) levels. There was no correlation between serum plasma visfatin (r = 0.127, p = 0.407) and resistin (r = -0.096, p = 0.544) levels and HOMA-IR. In conclusion, our findings revealed increased likelihood of metabolic and dyslipidemic manifestations in obese compared to non-obese PCOS patients, while no significant difference was noted in visfatin and resistin levels among PCOS patients in terms of co-morbid obesity and in comparison to controls. 相似文献

Presence of drug resistance in intestinal lactobacilli of dairy and human origin in Turkey 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The prevalence of different resistance genes was investigated in lactobacilli of human and dairy origin by PCR. The presence of erm, van, tet, and cat-TC genes were determined in 16 raw milk, 15 cream, 10 yogurt, 50 hand-made cheese, and 20 industrially produced white-cheese samples of dairy origin and 16 mouth, 32 fecal, and 36 vaginal samples from different subjects of human origin. Lactobacilli of dairy and human origin were found to carry only erm(B) and tet(M) genes. The majority of the isolates, Lactobacillus crispatus (61), Lactobacillus gasseri (49), Lactobacillus plantarum (80) studied were found to harbor either erm(B) or tet(M) gene or both. No resistant lactobacilli was found in raw-milk and cream samples. All the human fecal samples and the majority of vaginal (29 of 36) and mouth (10 of 14) samples were found to carry the resistance genes. While a third of the hand-made cheeses carried resistant lactobacilli only one industrially produced cheese was found to carry resistant lactobacilli. Furthermore, the genes were found in the non-starter species, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lb. plantarum, indicating that industrially produced cheeses in this respect could be considered more favorable. These results indicate that drug resistance seems to be very common in Turkey. Even though the number of dairy samples harboring the resistance genes (17 of 111) is smaller in regards to human samples, 10% of them were still found to carry the resistance genes as well. The presence of the resistance genes in majority of the samples of human origin and in minority of the samples of dairy origin indicates that drug resistance may be acquired in the intestinal tract during passage and spread to dairy products by the hands of workers during production. 相似文献

Proteins from halophiles have adapted to challenging environmental conditions and require salt for their structure and function. How halophilic proteins adapted to a hypersaline environment is still an intriguing question. It is important to mimic the physiological conditions of the archae extreme halophiles when characterizing their enzymes, including structural characterization. The NMR derived structure of Haloferax volcanii dihydrofolate reductase in 3.5 M NaCl is presented, and represents the first high salt structure calculated using NMR data. Structure calculations show that this protein has a solution structure which is similar to the previously determined crystal structure with a difference at the N terminus of beta3 and the type of beta-turn connection beta7 and beta8. 相似文献

Understanding the morphology of polymer‐based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells is necessary to improve device efficiencies. Blends of a low‐bandgap silole‐containing conjugated polymer, poly[(4,4′‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)dithieno[3,2‐b;2′,3′‐d]silole)‐2,6‐diyl‐alt‐(4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)‐5,5′‐diyl] (PSBTBT) with [6,6]phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were investigated under different processing conditions. The surface morphologies and vertical segregation of the “As‐Spun”, “Pre‐Annealed”, and “Post‐Annealed” films were studied by scanning force microscopy, contact angle measurements, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, near‐edge X‐ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy, dynamic secondary ion mass spectrometry, and neutron reflectivity. The results showed that PSBTBT was enriched at the cathode interface in the “As‐Spun” films and thermal annealing increased the segregation of PSBTBT to the free surface, while thermal annealing after deposition of the cathode increased the PCBM concentration at the cathode interface. Grazing‐incidence X‐ray diffraction and small‐angle neutron scattering showed that the crystallization of PSBTBT and segregation of PCBM occurred during spin coating, and thermal annealing increased the ordering of PSBTBT and enhanced the segregation of the PCBM, forming domains ~10 nm in size, leading to an improvement in photovoltaic performance. 相似文献

S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) denitrosation activity of recombinant human protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) has been kinetically characterized by monitoring the loss of the S-NO absorbance, using a NO electrode, and with the aid of the fluorogenic NOx probe 2,3-diaminonaphthalene. The initial rates of denitrosation as a function of [GSNO] displayed hyperbolic behavior irrespective of the method used to monitor denitrosation. The Km values estimated for GSNO were 65 +/- 5 microm and 40 +/- 10 microm for the loss in the S-NO bond and NO production (NO electrode or 2,3-diaminonaphthalene), respectively. Hemoglobin assay provided additional evidence that the final product of PDI-dependent GSNO denitrosation was NO*. A catalytic mechanism, involving a nitroxyl disulfide intermediate stabilized by imidazole (His160 a-domain or His589 a'-domain), which after undergoing a one-electron oxidation decomposes to yield NO plus dithiyl radical, has been proposed. Evidence for the formation of thiyl/dithiyl radicals during PDI-catalyzed denitrosation was obtained with 4-((9-acridinecarbonyl)-amino)-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl. Evidence has also been obtained showing that in a NO- and O2-rich environment, PDI can form N2O3 in its hydrophobic domains. This "NO-charged PDI" can perform intra- and intermolecular S-nitrosation reactions similar to that proposed for serum albumin. Interestingly, reduced PDI was able to denitrosate S-nitrosated PDI (PDI-SNO) resulting in the release of NO. PDI-SNO, once formed, is stable at room temperature in the absence of reducing agent over the period of 2 h. It has been established that PDI is continuously secreted from cells that are net producers of NO-like endothelial cells. The present demonstration that PDI can be S-nitrosated and that PDI-SNO can be denitrosated by PDI suggests that this enzyme could be intimately involved in the transport of intracellular NO equivalents to the cell surface as well as the previous demonstration of PDI in the transfer of S-nitrosothiol-bound NO to the cytosol. 相似文献

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the possible effects of a gastrointestinal lipase inhibitor “Orlistat (Xenical)” on the intestinal absorption of oxalate and thereby on the urinary levels of oxalate excretion in overweight patients. Methods and Procedures: Long‐term follow‐up data of 95 cases (57 men, 38 women; M/W= 1.5) were documented. Patients were randomly assigned into two groups. While the patients in group I (n = 55) were treated with orlistat (Xenical) for 6 months, patients in group II (n = 40) received no specific medication. Calcium, oxalate, and citrate levels were determined in a 24‐h urine collection from each patient. To evaluate the significance in the groups as well as the differences between the two groups, ANOVA test was performed and the results were given as mean ± s.d. Results: Comparative evaluation of urinary oxalate levels during 3‐month follow‐up clearly showed that urinary oxalate excretion significantly increased in 34/55 patients (61.8%) in the first group (P < 0.05). Of these 34 patients, 30 (88.2%) continued to have increased urinary oxalate excretion during 6‐month follow‐up (P = 0.001). However, our data did not show any significant effect of this medication on urinary citrate and calcium levels during 3‐ and 6‐month follow‐up evaluation (P = 0.05). Discussion: Our results suggest that increased intestinal absorption of dietary oxalate due to this type of medication in obese patients could make a substantial contribution to urinary oxalate excretion and may increase the risk of stone formation. 相似文献
