Thaparocleidus wallagonius is a monogenean parasite and a fish-borne pathogen with a worldwide distribution. The genome for Thaparocleidus wallagonius is known. Therefore, it is of interest to report the DNA motif analysis data in the 18S rDNA of Thaparocleidus wallagonius collected from the fish Wallago attu in India. This data forms a framework for an in-depth analysis of the parasite biology and development, immune evasion strategies, virulence and long-term survival within the definitive host.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Filariasis and its consequences are a major health problem in tropical countries, including the Indian subcontinent. Despite its high incidence, it is unusual to find microfilaria in fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) smears. We present a case of subcutaneous firm to cystic swelling, aspiration of which revealed a large number of microfilaria. CASE: A 30-year-old man presented with a chain of intermittent, firm swellings in both arms. FNAC of the swellings revealed a large number of 4 microfilariae with associated giant cell reaction and inflammatory cell-like eosinophils. CONCLUSION: Besides the documented usual mode of presentation of filarial infection, it can present in an atypical manner, so careful examination of aspirates from the subcutaneous swellings, especially in filariasis endemic zones, is very important.  相似文献

Use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) with chemotherapy to enhance responses in oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC) is an attractive approach. We identified subpopulations of OAC cells expressing inhibitory immune checkpoint (IC) ligands (PD-L1, PD-L2 and CD160) and receptors (PD-1, TIGIT, TIM-3, LAG-3 and A2aR) in vitro and in ex vivo biopsies. Combination chemotherapy regimens FLOT and CROSS promote a more immune-resistant phenotype through upregulation of IC ligands and receptors on OAC cells in vitro. Importantly, this study investigated if OAC cells, enriched for ICs exhibited a more stem-like and senescent-like phentoype. FLOT preferentially upregulates PD-L1 on a stem-like OAC cell phenotype, defined by ALDH activity. Expression of senescence-associated β-galactosidase is induced in a subpopulation of OAC cells following FLOT and CROSS chemotherapy treatment, along with enhanced expression of TIM-3 and A2aR ICs. Blockade of PD-1 signalling in OAC cells induced apoptosis and enhanced FLOT and CROSS chemotherapy toxicity in vitro. Upregulation of ICs on OAC cells following chemotherapy may represent potential mechanisms of chemo-immune resistance. Combination ICIs may be required to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy and immunotherapy in OAC patients.  相似文献

Arsenic (As) contaminated food chains have emerged as a serious public concern for humans and animals and are known to affect the cultivation of edible crops throughout the world. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the individual as well as the combined effects of exogenous silicon (Si) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide (NO) donor, on plant growth, metabolites, and antioxidant defense systems of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) plants under three different concentrations of As stress, i.e., 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 mM in a pot experiment. The results showed that As stress reduced the growth parameters of radish plants by increasing the level of oxidative stress markers, i.e., malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide. However, foliar application of Si (2 mM) and pretreatment with SNP (100 µM) alone as well as in combination with Si improved the plant growth parameters, i.e., root length, fresh and dry weight of plants under As stress. Furthermore, As stress also reduced protein, and metabolites contents (flavonoids, phenolic and anthocyanin). Activities of antioxidative enzymes such as catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (POD), and polyphenol oxidase (PPO), as well as the content of non-enzymatic antioxidants (glutathione and ascorbic acid) decreased under As stress. In most of the parameters in radish, As III concentration showed maximum reduction, as compared to As I and II concentrations. However, the individual and combined application of Si and NO significantly alleviated the As-mediated oxidative stress in radish plants by increasing the protein, and metabolites content. Enhancement in the activities of CAT, APX, POD and PPO enzymes were recorded. Contents of glutathione and ascorbic acid were also enhanced in response to co-application of Si and NO under As stress. Results obtained were more pronounced when Si and NO were applied in combination under As stress, as compared to their individual application. In short, the current study highlights that Si and NO synergistically regulate plant growth through lowering the As-mediated oxidative stress by upregulating the metabolites content, activity of antioxidative enzymes and non-enzymatic antioxidants in radish plants.

An epigeic (surface dweller) earthworm species Eisenia fetida and an anecic (deep burrower) earthworm species Lampito mauritii have been tested for decomposition of kitchen waste plus cow dung. Chemical analyses of worm-worked substrates by both species showed g/kg increases in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium and decreases in C/N and C/P ratios after 150 days of vermicomposting. However, organic carbon matter showed reduction in their amounts for 3-4 months and afterwards slightly increased up to 150 days. E. fetida produced 0.27%, 156%, 41% and 38% increases in organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium as well as 61% and 29% decreases in C/N and C/P ratios as compared to control after 150 days of earthworm inoculation. In contrast, L. mauritii produced 14%, 102%, 33% and 42% increases in organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as well as 43% and 14% decreases in C/N and C/P ratios as compared to control after 150 days of earthworm activity. There was moderate mineralization and faster decomposition by E. fetida in comparison to moderate mineralization and moderate decomposition by L. mauritii. The average numbers of cocoons and adults produced were greater by E. fetida than by L. mauritii after 150 days. These results indicate E. fetida may be a better adapted species for decomposition of kitchen waste plus cow dung under tropical conditions.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of food availability on the seasonal testicular growth in the photoperiodic house sparrow (Passer domesticus). Two experiments were performed, each lasting 4 weeks. In experiment 1, sparrows were exposed to natural (NDL; group 1), short (8L:16D; group 2) and long (16L:8D; groups 3-5) day lengths with access to food ad libitum (groups 1-3) or for 10 h (zeitgeber time (zt) 0-10, group 4; zt 0 is the time of light onset) or for 8 h (zt 8-16, group 5). Testes recrudesced under long, but not short and natural, day lengths, and the recrudescence under long days was influenced by the duration of food availability. In experiment 2, the sparrows were exposed to short (8L:16D, group 1) and long (16L:8D, groups 2-5) day lengths with access to food ad libitum (for groups 1 and 2) or for 6 h (for groups 3-5) at different times during the 16 h light period (group 3- zt 0-6, group 4- zt 5-11, group 5- zt 10-16). As the expected, the testes recrudesced only under long lengths, but the photoinduction was variable among the 4 groups. The testes grew to full size in groups 2 and 3 that received food either ad libitum or for 6 h at zt 0-6, but to sub-maximal size in the groups that received 6 h food either at zt 5-11 (group 4) or at zt 10-16 (group 5). Altogether, these results support the idea that the photoperiodic regulation of reproduction in a seasonally breeding species is influenced both by the duration and the time of food availability.  相似文献
