The objective of this study was to examine relations between body iron (Fe) status and cadmium (Cd) accumulation in a small
rodent, the bank vole, caught from the wild population in late autumn (November) and early spring (March). The concentrations
of Fe in the liver, kidneys, and duodenum in the bank voles from the spring were only 30%, 60%, and 70%, respectively, of
those found in the animals from the autumn. An analysis of hematocrit and hemoglobin content of blood showed no significant
effect of the season, suggesting that the animals from the spring were not anemic. The exposure to dietary Cd (10 μg/g) for
7 days resulted in 70% higher accumulation of Cd in the liver and kidneys of the spring than autumn bank voles, and the concentration
of Cd in the duodenum was 3.5 times higher in the spring animals, despite the fact that relative Cd intake was significantly
higher in the autumn bank voles. The data indicate that seasonal changes of body Fe status occurring in the wild bank voles

Blood is collected during animal experimentation to measure haematological and metabolic parameters. It cannot be assumed that circulating blood has the same composition irrespective of its location, and indeed, differences in the composition of blood sampled from the arterial and venous compartments have been reported. Here we investigated whether blood collected by cardiac puncture (CP) versus that collected following removal of the distal 1 mm of the tail tip (TT) differs with respect to glucose and lipid profiles in male C57BL/6J mice at 4, 7, 20 and 28 weeks of age. Blood was first collected from the TT of unanaesthetized mice, which were then immediately anaesthetized using ketamine/xylazine, and a second blood sample was collected by CP. The CP glucose concentration was significantly higher than TT glucose by a positive bias averaging +80% (P < 0.01), irrespective of the age of the mice. Conversely, the concentrations of the CP lipids, including total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride were lower than TT lipids by a negative bias averaging -25% (P < 0.05). These observations highlight the difficulty in measuring and comparing metabolic parameters such as glucose and lipid between one blood compartment and another. They illustrate the need to standardize sampling sites, especially when repeated blood sampling is required. 相似文献

Two frequently reported but poorly known hemiurid digeneans, Lecithochirium musculus (Looss, 1907) (Lecithochiriinae), from the stomach of Trachinus draco and Citharus linguatula, and Ectenurus lepidus Looss, 1907 (Dinurinae), from the stomach of Spicara maena, are redescribed based on material from off the Barcelona coast of the western Mediterranean. The two species are commented upon, and Lecithochirium israelense Fischthal, 1980 is considered a synonym of L. musculus. Recently, an alternative route to the proteasomal protein-degradation pathway was discovered that specifically targets transmembrane proteins marked with a single ubiquitin to the endosomal multivesicular body (MVB) and, subsequently, to the vacuole (yeast) or lysosome (animals), where they are degraded by proteases. Vps23p/TSG101 is a key component of the ESCRT I-III machinery in yeast and animals that recognizes mono-ubiquitylated proteins and sorts them into the MVB. Here, we report that the Arabidopsis ELCH (ELC) gene encodes a Vps23p/TSG101 homolog, and that homologs of all known ESCRT I-III components are present in the Arabidopsis genome. As with its animal and yeast counterparts, ELC binds ubiquitin and localizes to endosomes. Gel-filtration experiments indicate that ELC is a component of a high-molecular-weight complex. Yeast two-hybrid and immunoprecipitation assays showed that ELC interacts with Arabidopsis homologs of the ESCRT I complex. The elc mutant shows multiple nuclei in various cell types, indicating a role in cytokinesis. Double-mutant analysis with kaktus shows that increased ploidy levels do not influence the cytokinesis effect of elc mutants, suggesting that ELC is only important during the first endoreduplication cycle. Double mutants with tubulin folding cofactor a mutants show a synergistic phenotype, suggesting that ELC regulates cytokinesis through the microtubule cytoskeleton. 相似文献

Records of derogenid digeneans in the Mediterranean and Black Sea region are scarce and tend to be restricted to a small number
of host-groups, but especially to sparid fishes. This work reports on the presence of derogenine and halipegine derogenids
from two sparids, Diplodus annularis (L.) and D. sargus (L.), from off the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Five derogenid forms were recovered. Derogenes
adriaticus Nikolaeva, 1966 is redescribed from Diplodus
annularis, and Derogenes sp. is described from the same host but differentiated from the former species. Magnibursatus
barretti n. sp. is described from Diplodus sargus and distinguished from other species of the genus especially by its smaller body size and smaller eggs. M. bartolii Kostadinova, Power, Fernández, Balbuena, Raga & Gibson, 2003 is redescribed from D. sargus, a new host for this species. A single specimen from D. sargus, somewhat similar to M. minutus Kostadinova, Power, Fernández, Balbuena, Raga & Gibson, 2003, is also described, as it exhibits some morphometric differences
