In order to gain an insight into the dynamics of the cardiovascular system throughout which the blood circulates, the signals measured from peripheral blood flow in humans were analyzed by calculating the Lyapunov exponents. Over a wide range of algorithm parameters, paired values of both the global and the local Lyapunov exponents were obtained, and at least one exponent equaled zero within the calculation error. This may be an indication of the deterministic nature and finite number of degrees of freedom of the cardiovascular system governing the blood-flow dynamics on a time scale of minutes. A difference was observed in the Lyapunov dimension of controls and athletes.  相似文献

PIN2-like auxin transporters are expressed, preferentially in a polarized manner, in antheridial cells of freshwater green alga Chara vulgaris , considered to be the closest relative of the present-day land plants.

Abstract

Chara vulgaris represents a group of advanced multicellular green algae that are considered as the closest relatives of the present-day land plants. A highly specialized structure of its male sex organs (antheridia) includes filaments consisting of generative cells, which after a series of synchronous divisions transform into mature sperm, and non-generative cells comprising outer shield cells, cylindrical manubria, and central complex of capitular cells from which antheridial filaments arise. Immunofluorescence observations indicate that PIN2-like proteins (PIN2-LPs), recognized by antibodies against PIN-FORMED2 (PIN2) auxin transporter in Arabidopsis thaliana, are expressed in both types of antheridial cells and, in most of them, preferentially accumulate in a polarized manner. The appearance of PIN2-LPs in germ-line cells is strictly confined to the proliferative period of spermatogenesis and their quantities increase steadily till antheridial filaments reach the 16-celled stage. An enhanced level of PIN2-LPs observed in the central cell walls separating two asynchronously developing parts of antheridial filaments (characterized by the plugged plasmodesmata) is correlated with an enhanced deposition of callose. Intense PIN2-LPs immunofluorescence maintained in the capitular cells and its altering polarity in manubria suggest a pivotal role of these cells in the regulation of auxin transport directionality during the whole time of antheridial ontogenesis. Immunohistochemical staining of IAA revealed a clear-cut correspondence between localization sites of auxins and PIN2-LPs. It seems probable then that a supplementary developmental mechanism has evolved in Chara, by which all antheridial elements may be integrated at the supra-cellular level via plasma membrane-targeted PIN2-LPs and auxin-mediated processes.

The efficacy of growth promoting hormonal therapy is assessed on the basis of growth rate as well as bone age progression until the patients reach their final height. The aim of our study was to investigate which hormonal therapy influences in most appropriate way height velocity and bone age progression in patients with Turner syndrome (TS) and to establish the optimal age to initiate treatment. Patients were divided into five groups according to the type of hormonal therapy: 1) 11 patients treated with growth hormone (GH); 2) 18 patients treated with GH and oxandrolone (Ox); 3) 7 patients treated with GH, Ox and estrogens (E); 4) 6 patients treated with OX and E; and the control group (Group 0) of 62 untreated patients. The patients height was expressed in hSDS calculated on the basis of growth chart for patients with TS (hSDST). Bone age (BA) was assessed according to Greulich-Pyle method. Results: The mean values of deltahSDST in the first and second year of therapy in individual groups were significantly different. The difference resulted from significantly higher value of deltahSDST in group treated with GH+Ox. Analysis of regression between deltaCA and deltaBA revealed regression coefficients alpha of equation deltaBA= alpha x deltaCA: in group 0: 0.817; group GH: 1.233; group GH+Ox: 0.861; group GH+Ox+E: 0.997; group Ox+E: 1.141. There was significant difference between regression coefficients in studied groups. It resulted from significantly higher value of alpha in group treated with GH than in a group 0 and treated with GH+Ox. Only group treated with GH+Ox showed a significant negative correlation between baseline CA and deltaBA during the therapy. We can conclude that all regimens of hormonal therapy improved height in our patients but the highest increase of height during the therapy and the smallest progression of the bone age in the same time were observed in patients treated with GH+Ox.  相似文献

Despite advanced diagnostic techniques used for detecting cancer, this disease still remains a leading cause of death in the developed world. What is more, the greatest danger for patients is not related with growing of tumor but rather with metastasis of cancer cells to the distant organs. In this study, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to track chemical changes in blood plasma to find spectral markers of metastatic breast cancer during the disease progression. Plasma samples were taken 1‐5 weeks after orthotropic inoculation of 4T1 metastatic breast cancer cells to mice. The earliest changes detected by FTIR spectroscopy in plasma were correlated with unsaturation of phospholipids and secondary structures of proteins that appeared 2 and 3 weeks, respectively, after 4T1 cells inoculation (micrometastatic phase). Significant alternations in the content and structure of lipids and carbohydrates were identified in plasma at the later stages (macrometastatic phase). When large primary tumors in breast and macrometastases in lung were developed, all bands in FTIR spectra significantly differed from those at earlier phases of the cancer progression. In conclusion, we showed that each phase of the breast cancer progression and its pulmonary metastasis can be characterized by a specific panel of spectral markers.  相似文献

A visualization method for inter-fragment interaction energies (IFIEs) of biopolymers is presented on the basis of the fragment molecular orbital (FMO) method. The IFIEs appropriately illustrate the information about the interaction energies between the fragments consisting of amino acids, nucleotides and other molecules. The IFIEs are usually analyzed in a matrix form called an IFIE matrix. Analyzing the IFIE matrix, we detect important fragments for the function of biomolecular systems and quantify the strength of interaction energies based on quantum chemistry, including the effects of charge transfer, electronic polarization and dispersion force. In this study, by analyzing a protein-DNA complex, we report a visual representation of the IFIE matrix, a so-called IFIE map. We comprehensively examine what information the IFIE map contains concerning structures and stabilities of the protein-DNA complex.  相似文献

DNA methylation is an epigenetic modification that plays an important role in the normal development and function of organisms. The level of DNA methylation is species-, tissue-, and organelle-specific, and the methylation pattern is determined during embryogenesis. DNA methylation has also been correlated with age. The aim of this study was to determine the global DNA methylation levels and their correlation with age in the chicken, using a Polish autosexing chicken breed, Polbar. A quantitative technique based on an immunoenzymatic assay was used for global DNA methylation analysis. The results show increased global DNA methylation levels with older Polbar embryos. Global DNA methylation levels decrease with the age of hens in the postembryonic stage. This study expands the current knowledge of the Polbar epigenome and the general knowledge of the function of epigenetic mechanisms in birds.  相似文献
