Three new psilostomid genera, Byrdtrema n. g., Longisaccus n. g. and Macracetabulum n. g., each with a single species, are described from ducks, Aix sponsa (L.) and Bucephala albeola (L.) in North America. Byrdtrema n. g. and Macracetabulum n. g. possess a bipartite seminal vesicle and share this character with four psilostomid genera, Grysoma Byrd, Bogitsh & Maples, 1961, Neopsilotrema Kudlai, Pulis, Kostadinova & Tkach, 2016, Psilostomum Looss, 1899 and Psilotornus Byrd & Prestwood, 1969. Byrdtrema n. g. differs from Macracetabulum n. g. in the shape of the body (elongate vs elongate-oval); the position of the ventral sucker (in first third of body vs just pre-equatorial); the shorter forebody; as well as in the smaller size of the eggs in relation to body length. Both new genera differ from (i) Grysoma by the nature of the vitellarium (large, compact follicles with small vitelline cells vs weakly defined follicles with large vitelline cells, respectively) and the smaller size of the eggs in relation to body length; (ii) Psilostomum in the posterior extend of the cirrus-sac in relation to ventral sucker (slightly posterior vs more posterior), the location of the genital pore (at the level of oesophagus vs just postbifurcal), the shorter length of uterine and longer post-testicular fields in relation to body length, and the anterior limits of vitellarium (at the level of ventral sucker vs posterior to ventral sucker); (iii) Psilotornus by the presence of a muscular pharynx (vs absent or rudimentary) and the location of the cirrus-sac (antero-dorsal to ventral sucker or more posterior vs entirely anterior to ventral sucker) and ovary (in hindbody vs in forebody). Byrdtrema n. g. differs from Neopsilotrema in the shape of the body (elongate vs subspherical to elongate-oval) and ventral sucker (elongate-oval vs subspherical to transversely oval), the shorter forebody and smaller eggs in relation to body length. Macracetabulum n. g. differs from Neopsilotrema by the shape of the ventral sucker (elongate-oval vs subspherical to transversely oval), the anterior limits of vitellarium (level of middle of ventral sucker vs level of intestinal bifurcation or anterior testis); and the slightly smaller size of eggs in relation to body length. Among the psilostomid genera, Longisaccus n. g. shows close affinities to Psilochasmus Lühe, 1909 in the presence of the long cirrus-sac and tubular internal seminal vesicle but can be clearly distinguished from the latter by the absence of the retractile tail-like process. In combination with molecular data, the above differences justify the recognition of three new genera. A key to the genera of the Psilostomidae is provided.  相似文献

The status of the nominal species of Haploporus Looss, 1902 and Lecithobotrys Looss, 1902 is re-assessed by means of a comparative morphological study based on newly collected specimens from the western Mediterranean, the re-examination of museum material and a critical evaluation of published data. H. benedeni (Stossich, 1887) (type-species) is described and H. lateralis Looss, 1902 is considered to be its junior synonym. Additional data are given for H. pseudoindicus Rekharani & Madhavi, 1985, H. spinosus Machida, 1996 and H. magnisaccus Machida, 1996. Species parasitising Valamugil spp. from the Indo-West Pacific region, H. indicus Rekharani & Madhavi, 1985, H. spinosus, H. magnisaccus, H. mugilis Liu & Yang, 2002 and H. muscolosaccus Machida, 2003, are considered incertae sedis with respect to their generic affiliation. H. pacificus (Manter, 1963) (syn. Neohaploporus pacificus Manter, 1963), H. pseudoindicus and H. musculosaccus are designated as species inquirendae and H. lossii Al-Bassel, 1990 is considered to be a nomen nudum. Lecithobotrys putrescens Looss, 1902 is described based on newly collected material from Liza spp. Pseudolecithobotrys n. g. is erected to accommodate Lecithobotrys stomachicola Machida, 1996, as P. stomachicola (Machida, 1996) n. comb., from the North Pacific. L. aegyptiacus Hassan, El-Aziz, Khidr & Abu Samak, 1990 is considered to be a synonym of Saccocoelium tensum Looss, 1902, and L. brisbanensis (Martin, 1974) (syn. Paralecithobotrys brisbanensis Martin, 1974), L. vitellosus Sharma & Gupta, 1970 and L. suezcanali Nisreen Ezz El-Dien, Abdel-Rahman, El-Gawady, Imam & Fahmy, 1990 are regarded as species inquirendae. New generic diagnoses are presented for both Haploporus and Lecithobotrys.

We used differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as a technique capable of identifying photosynthetic complexes on the basis of their calorimetric transitions. Annotation of thermal transitions was carried out with thylakoid membranes isolated from various photosynthetic mutants of Synechocystis sp. PCC6803. The thylakoid membranes exhibited seven major DSC bands between 40 and 85°C. The heat sorption curves were analyzed both by mathematical deconvolution of the overall endotherms and by a subsequent annealing procedure. The successive annealing procedure proved to be more reliable technique than mathematical deconvolution in assigning thermal transitions. The main DSC band, around 47°C, resulting from the high enthalpy change that corresponds to non-interacting complex of PSII, was assigned using the PSI-less/apcE(-) mutant cells. Another band around 68-70°C relates to the denaturation of PSII surrounded by other proteins of the photosynthetic complexes in wild type and PSI-less/apcE(-) cells. A further major transition found at 82-84°C corresponds to the PSI core complex of wild type and PSII-deficient BE cells. Other transition bands between 50-67 and 65-75°C are believed to relate to ATP synthase and cytochrome b(6)f, respectively. These thermal transitions were obtained with thylakoids isolated from PSI(-)/PSII(-) mutant cells. Some minor bands determined at 59 and 83-84°C correspond to an unknown complex and NADH dehydrogenase, respectively. These annotations were done by PSI-less/apcE(-) and PSI(-)/PSII(-) mutants.  相似文献

The genus Verbascum (mulleins), belonging to the family Scrophulariaceae, comprises about 360 species of flowering plants. The leaves, flowers and whole aerial parts of Verbascum spp. have been widely used in traditional medicine for the treatment of respiratory and inflammatory disorders and also display powerful wound healing activity. Verbascum species are found to accumulate several groups of bioactive molecules, therefore they might be utilized as attractive sources of new (drug) leads. The present review attempts to provide an up-to-date comprehensive overview on phytochemical and pharmacological aspects of Verbacum spp. research along with some successful examples of growing (and transforming) mulleins in vitro.  相似文献

Methionine aminopeptidase, known to be encoded by single genes in prokaryotes, is a cobalt-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the removal of N-terminal methionine residues from nascent polypeptides. Three ORFs encoding putative methionine aminopeptidases from the genome of cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. strain PCC6803, designated as slr0786 (map-1), slr0918 (map-2) and sll0555 (map-3) were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The purified recombinant proteins encoded by map-1 and map-3 had much higher methionine aminopeptidase activity than the recombinant protein encoded by map-2. Comparative analysis revealed that the three recombinant enzymes differed in their substrate specificity, divalent ion requirement, pH, and temperature optima. The broad activities of the iso-enzymes are discussed in light of the structural similarities with other peptidase families and their levels of specificity in the cell. Potential application of cyanobacterial MetAPs in the production of recombinant proteins used in medicine is proposed. This is the first report of a prokaryote harboring multiple methionine aminopeptidases.Abbreviations map Gene encoding methionine aminopeptidase - MetAP Methionine aminopeptidase - eMetAP-Ia Escherichia coli methionine aminopeptidase type Ia - yMetAP-Ib Yeast methionine aminopeptidase type Ib - yMetAP-IIa Yeast methionine aminopeptidase type IIa - hMetAP-IIb Human methionine aminopeptidase type IIb - pfMetAP–IIa Pyrococcus furiosis methionine aminopeptidase type Ia - bst MetAP-Ia Bacillus stearothermophilus methionine aminopeptidase type Ia - c1MetAP-Ia Cyanobacterial methionine aminopeptidase type Ia encoded by map-1 - c2MetAP-Ia Cyanobacterial methionine aminopeptidase type Ia encoded by map-2 - c3MetAP-Ib Cyanobacterial methionine aminopeptidase type Ib, ncoded by map-3  相似文献

The existence of a two-host life-cycle in ophiotaeniid proteocephalideans was tested experimentally using Ophiotaenia europaea as a model. Three species of reptiles, Natrix natrix, Natrix tessellata and Lacerta viridis, were fed with experimentally infected copepods containing a large number of infective plerocercoids I. A few plerocercoids, most of which were dead, corresponding morphologically to the plerocercoid II developmental stage of O. europaea, were found encysted in the intestinal wall of N. natrix (8 days p.i.), N. tessellata (5 and 150 days p.i.) and L. viridis (40 days p.i.), while no plerocercoids or adult worms were recovered from their intestines. The results indicate that the infective plerocercoid I of O. europaea cannot undergo further development when ingested directly by the final host (a reptile), and that environmental temperature stimuli cannot initiate a reverse plerocercoid migration to the gut followed by strobilization.  相似文献

Two frequently reported but poorly known hemiurid digeneans, Lecithochirium musculus (Looss, 1907) (Lecithochiriinae), from the stomach of Trachinus draco and Citharus linguatula, and Ectenurus lepidus Looss, 1907 (Dinurinae), from the stomach of Spicara maena, are redescribed based on material from off the Barcelona coast of the western Mediterranean. The two species are commented upon, and Lecithochirium israelense Fischthal, 1980 is considered a synonym of L. musculus. Records of the two species in the Mediterranean Basin and North East Atlantic region are summarised.  相似文献

Sarabeev & Balbuena (2003) considered Dicrogaster perpusilla Looss, 1902 and D. contracta Looss, 1902 (Digenea: Haploporidae) synonymous. They designated a neotype for the type-species, D. perpusilla, from a sample of specimens ex Chelon labrosus off West Thurrock, UK. The morphology of the material (three specimen lots) studied by these authors was re-examined in detail and compared with their data. The material labelled ‘D. perpusilla’ from off West Thurrock, from which the neotype specimen was selected, consists of 14 specimens; of these one might belong to Haploporus Looss, 1902 and one to Haplosplanchnus Looss 1902. A well-developed genital atrium was observed in 11 of the 12 remaining specimens, and they all possess large saccular caeca and a vitellarium consisting of two groups of loosely coalesced follicles rather than two compact masses. These features suggest that the 12 specimens of this lot may belong to Saccocoelium Looss, 1902, but the state of the material does not permit its reliable identification. The specimen designated by Sarabeev & Balbuena (2003) as the neotype of D. perpusilla represents a neogravid dorso-laterally mounted specimen and is unrecognisable. Although five of the six voucher specimens of these authors may represent Dicrogaster spp., the poor state of this material does not allow its accurate identification. The metrical data obtained from this voucher material indicate that juvenile and laterally mounted specimens have been used in the comparisons upon which the synonymy of D. perpusilla and D. contracta was suggested. The overall conclusion of the study is that the synonymy of D. contracta and D. perpusilla proposed by Sarabeev & Balbuena (2003) is based on questionable material. Since the neotype of D. perpusilla is unrecognisable, and a number of qualifying conditions of the ICZN in its designation were not met, the usage of the original conception of the type-species of Dicrogaster given by Looss (1902) is recommended.  相似文献
