Landscape parameters extracted from classified SPOT satellite imagery are used as independent variables for predicting potential habitat areas of the barn owl Tyto alba in a landscape north-east of Brussels, Belgium Field data on the nest sites, recorded during 9 yr, are used as the dependent variable A canonical correlation analysis of the landscape characteristics of 'successful breeding and non-breeding sites' selects a set of most significant parameters contributing to the distinction between suitable and unsuitable breeding habitat parameters measuring the spatial configuration and fragmentation of landscape elements, such as deciduous woods and grasslands, in combination with some visual characteristics of the open spaces in the landscape The selected set of parameters formed the basis for the calculation of a habitat model, whereby potential breeding sites could be located throughout the complete study area, at specific levels of confidence The results showed the relevance of this method for landscape ecological research and nature conservation planning  相似文献

Particle swarm optimization algorithms have been successfully applied to discrete/valued optimization problems. However, in many cases the algorithms have been tailored specifically for the problem at hand. This paper proposes a generic set-based particle swarm optimization algorithm for use in discrete-valued optimization problems that can be formulated as set-based problems. A detailed sensitivity analysis of the parameters of the algorithm is conducted. The performance of the proposed algorithm is then compared against three other discrete particle swarm optimization algorithms from literature using the multidimensional knapsack problem and is shown to statistically outperform the existing algorithms.  相似文献

Arterial platelet thrombosis was induced in vivo in a branch of the mesenteric artery of the white Wistar rat by topical superfusion by adenosine diphosphate following local de-endothelialization of the dissected segment by means of a small electrical current. Detection of the thrombotic phenomena was performed by projection of the arterial segment onto a set of light sensitive elements, wich allows the registration of several discriminating parameters. The addition of arachidonic acid to the superfusing mixture results in an increase in thromboformation; this increasing effect can be blocked completely by prior inhibition od the vessel wall cyclooxygenase activity by inhibitors such as flurbiprofen or indomethacin. We therefore concluded that the arachidonate cascade, triggered within the endothelial cells, is involved in platelet-vessel wall interaction leading ultimately to local thrombosis.  相似文献

In this paper we analyse the impact of financial liberalization and reforms on the banking performance in 17 countries from CEE for the period 2004–2008 using a two-stage empirical model that involves estimating bank performance in the first stage and assessing its determinants in the second one. From our analysis it results that banks from CEE countries with higher level of liberalization and openness are able to increase cost efficiency and eventually to offer cheaper services to clients. Banks from non-member EU countries are less cost efficient but experienced much higher total productivity growth level, and large sized banks are much more cost efficient than medium and small banks, while small sized banks show the highest growth in terms of productivity.  相似文献

Regulatory NK cell receptors can contribute to antigen-specific adaptive immune responses by modulating T cell receptor (TCR)-induced T cell activation. We investigated the potential of the NK cell receptor 2B4 (CD244) to enhance tumor antigen-induced activation of human T cells. 2B4 is a member of the CD2 receptor subfamily with both activating and inhibitory functions in NK cells. In T cells, its expression is positively associated with the acquisition of a cytolytic effector memory phenotype. Recombinant chimeric receptors that link extracellular single-chain Fv fragments specific for the tumor-associated surface antigens CD19 and GD2 to the signaling domains of human 2B4 and/or TCRζ were expressed in non-specifically activated peripheral blood T cells by retroviral gene transfer. While 2B4 signaling alone failed to induce T cell effector functions or proliferation, it significantly augmented the antigen-specific activation responses induced by TCRζ. 2B4 costimulation did not affect the predominant effector memory phenotype of expanding T cells, nor did it increase the proportion of T cells with regulatory phenotype (CD4+CD25hiFoxP3+). These data support a costimulatory role for 2B4 in human T cell subpopulations. As an amplifier of TCR-mediated signals, 2B4 may provide a powerful new tool for immunotherapy of cancer, promoting sustained activation and proliferation of gene-modified antitumor T cells.  相似文献

Background

Most longitudinal studies showed increased relative mortality in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus until now. As a result of major changes in treatment regimes over the past years, with more stringent goals for metabolic control and cardiovascular risk management, improvement of life expectancy should be expected. In our study, we aimed to assess present-day life expectancy of type 2 diabetes patients in an ongoing cohort study.

Methodology and Principal Findings

We included 973 primary care type 2 diabetes patients in a prospective cohort study, who were all participating in a shared care project in The Netherlands. Vital status was assessed from May 2001 till May 2007. Main outcome measurement was life expectancy assessed by transforming actual survival time to standardised survival time allowing adjustment for the baseline mortality rate of the general population. At baseline, mean age was 66 years, mean HbA1c 7.0%. During a median follow-up of 5.4 years, 165 patients died (78 from cardiovascular causes), and 17 patients were lost to follow-up. There were no differences in life expectancy in subjects with type 2 diabetes compared to life expectancy in the general population. In multivariate Cox regression analyses, concentrating on the endpoints ‘all-cause’ and cardiovascular mortality, a history of cardiovascular disease: hazard ratio (HR) 1.71 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.23–2.37), and HR 2.59 (95% CI 1.56–4.28); and albuminuria: HR 1.72 (95% CI 1.26–2.35), and HR 1.83 (95% CI 1.17–2.89), respectively, were significant predictors, whereas smoking, HbA1c, systolic blood pressure and diabetes duration were not.

Conclusions

This study shows a normal life expectancy in a cohort of subjects with type 2 diabetes patients in primary care when compared to the general population. A history of cardiovascular disease and albuminuria, however, increased the risk of a reduction of life expectancy. These results show that, in a shared care environment, a normal life expectancy is achievable in type 2 diabetes patients.  相似文献

以CO2浓度升高为主要标志的全球气候变化及由其引起的极端气候变化对陆地生态系统产生了重要的影响。利用步入式CO2生长室模拟研究了CO2浓度变化(400和700μL/L)和干旱胁迫(水分充足CK:100%FC(田间持水量);中度干旱MS:40%FC;重度干旱SS:20%FC)的交互作用对草本植物网果酸模(Rumex chalepensis)、野豌豆(Vicia sepium)、泥胡菜(Hemmistepta lyrata)、风轮菜(Clinopodium chinense)、藜(Chenopodium album)和玉米石(Sedum album)生长特性的影响。结果表明:CO2浓度升高总体上刺激了网果酸模、野豌豆、泥胡菜、风轮菜和藜这5种C3植物在任何水分条件下的生长,也刺激了玉米石在水分条件较好下的生长;干旱胁迫总体上抑制了所有6种植物的生长,但中度干旱胁迫有刺激CAM植物玉米石生长的趋势。CO2浓度升高能否缓解干旱的负面影响具有明显的种间差异:CO2浓度升高减缓了干旱胁迫对泥胡菜和风轮菜的负面影响,这种缓解作用在网果酸模和野豌豆中显著降低,对藜没有明显的促进作用,对干旱下的玉米石的生长却起到了抑制作用。CO2浓度升高总体上增加了根质量分数和干物质含量;干旱胁迫明显提高了6种草本植物的根生物量的分配比例,降低了干物质含量;但CO2浓度升高和干旱胁迫的交互作用可导致不同的物种产生不同的响应,说明植物能够通过调节生物量分配和植株本身的水分含量保持能力来适应CO2浓度和干旱胁迫的交互影响,这种调节能力取决于植物在碳的吸收和水分散失之间的平衡"trade-off"。研究结果有助于增进草本植物对未来气候变化的适应性理解,为评估和预测全球气候和水文变化对植物的生理生态影响提供理论依据。  相似文献
