Background
Persons with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), performing some level of regular physical activity, have a lower risk of both COPD-related hospital admissions and mortality. COPD patients of all stages seem to benefit from exercise training programs, thereby improving with respect to both exercise tolerance and symptoms of dyspnea and fatigue. Physical inactivity, which becomes more severe with increasing age, is a point of concern in healthy older adults. COPD might worsen this scenario, but it is unclear to what degree. This literature review aims to present the extent of the impact of COPD on objectively-measured daily physical activity (DPA). The focus is on the extent of the impact that COPD has on duration, intensity, and counts of DPA, as well as whether the severity of the disease has an additional influence on DPA.Results
A literature review was performed in the databases PubMed [MEDLINE], Picarta, PEDRO, ISI Web of Knowledge and Google scholar. After screening, 11 studies were identified as being relevant for comparison between COPD patients and healthy controls with respect to duration, intensity, and counts of DPA. Four more studies were found to be relevant to address the subject of the influence the severity of the disease may have on DPA. The average percentage of DPA of COPD patients vs. healthy control subjects for duration was 57%, for intensity 75%, and for activity counts 56%. Correlations of DPA and severity of the disease were low and/or not significant.Conclusions
From the results of this review, it appears that patients with COPD have a significantly reduced duration, intensity, and counts of DPA when compared to healthy control subjects. The intensity of DPA seems to be less affected by COPD than duration and counts. Judging from the results, it seems that severity of COPD is not strongly correlated with level of DPA. Future research should focus in more detail on the relation between COPD and duration, intensity, and counts of DPA, as well as the effect of disease severity on DPA, so that these relations become more understandable. 相似文献33.
The interdomain motions in myosin subfragment 1 (S1) were studied by steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence of tryptophan residues and N-(iodoacetyl)-N'-(5-sulfo-1-naphtyl)ethylenediamine (AEDANS) attached to Cys178 of alkali light chain 1 (A1) exchanged into S1. The efficiency of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from tryptophan residues of motor domain to AEDANS at A1 decreased dramatically after addition of ATP to S1A1-AEDANS. The efficiency of FRET calculated from the crystal structure of chicken S1 corresponded to the experimental one measured in the presence of ATP. The results showed that AEDANS at Cys178 of A1 became more mobile and distant from the motor domain of S1 upon ATP binding. These findings led to the suggestion that a release of the products of ATP hydrolysis and power stroke might be associated with movement of light chain-binding domain towards the N-terminal domain of S1. 相似文献

The dynamics of direct current potentials of the brain was studied in 10-11-year-old children during sustained attention to successive presentation of series of Shulte tables. Children were examined twice: before and after the series of training to fast reading. A gradual increase in the level of direct current potentials during sustained attention was observed. The increase was more pronounced in children with excessive than in children with moderate reactions to the loading. After the series of training to fast reading, the increase in the level of direct current potentials was reduced in both groups. This aftertraining neurophysiological phenomenon was combined with a transformation of psychophysiological characteristics: a decrease in the time of viewing of Shulte tables and increase in the speed of reading. It is suggested that the shifts of direct current potentials reflects the dynamics of intensity of the cerebral energy metabolism. 相似文献

A membrane fraction enriched in plasma membrane (PM) vesicles was isolated from the root cells of a salt-accumulating halophyte Suaeda altissima (L.) Pall. by means of centrifugation in discontinuous sucrose density gradient. The PM vesicles were capable of generating ΔpH at their membrane and the transmembrane electric potential difference (Δψ). These quantities were measured with optical probes, acridine orange and oxonol VI, sensitive to ΔpH and Δψ, respectively. The ATP-dependent generation of ΔpH was sensitive to vanadate, an inhibitor of P-type ATPases. The results contain evidence for the functioning of H+-ATPase in the PM of the root cells of S. altissima. The addition of Na+ and Li+ ions to the outer medium resulted in dissipation of ΔpH preformed by the H+-ATPase, which indicates the presence in PM of the functionally active Na+/H+ antiporter. The results are discussed with regard to involvement of the Na+/H+ antiporter and the PM H+-ATPase in loading Na+ ions into the xylem of S. altissima roots. 相似文献

This review considers current research of different forms of non-shivering thermogenesis related to thermoregulatory and substrate
homeostasis. The term “homeostatic non-shivering thermogenesis (HNST)” is proposed for explanation of facultative heat production
stimulated by exposure to cold, food intake and accumulation of lactate during intensive muscle loading. Similarities and
differences in physiological activity are displayed in three HNST types. Existence of a number of common points makes it possible
to propose common physiological mechanisms of HNST realization. Among other candidates for HNST location, the brown adipose
tissue (BAT) fits best as its function is specifi between thermogenic function in cold environment and diet-induced thermogenesis
that makes it possible to link these two HNST types with BAT activity. Here we present the data indirectly confirming BAT
functioning in processes of homeostatic normalization not related to cold acclimation or food intake. We also consider new
data about BAT functional activity, its topographic body location, mechanisms of uncoupled respiration in different tissues
in adult humans and about methods of BAT diagnostics which include the use of molecular markers. We list a number of facts
confirming our suggestion about BAT activity being related to homeostatic normalization after physical loading. In conclusion,
we propose an experimental research program for the testing of our hypothesis regarding BAT universal homeostatic function

Mouse Monoclonal antibodies against human adiponectin were produced by the routine method and the specificity of antibodies was verified. These monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) interacted with the monomeric and trimeric forms of recombinant adiponectin according to the results of a Western blot analysis. Human blood serum was fractionated by gel filtration, and the protein of these fractions was stained using labeled MoAbs. It was established that a single high-molecular-weight form (HMW) of endogenous adiponectin was detected by this method. The use of competitive enzymelinked immunoassay on the basis of the obtained MoAbs allowed us to show that the sera of healthy male donors contains lower adiponectin concentrations than that of female donors (8.42 ± 1.59 μg/ml vs. 11.01 ± 2.58 μg/ml, p = 0.01). We also detected statistically significant lower adiponectin levels in the serum of patients with coronary artery disease for both men (6.01 ± 2.73 μg/ml vs. 8.42 ± 1.59 μg/ml, p = 0.015) and women (5.79 ± 2.98 μg/ml vs. 11.01 ± 2.58 μg/ml, p = 0.0003). Therefore, the developed methods for the analysis of the HMW form of adiponectin can be helpful in the diagnostics of the possible implications and assessment of unfavorable prognoses in patients with cardiovascular disorders. 相似文献

The review focuses on the mechanisms employed by plant vacuoles for maintaining the redox homeostasis under generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) promoted by various abiotic stressors. These mechanisms are based on functioning of diverse enzymes and transport systems of the tonoplast as well as on vacuole-specific redox reactions involving vacuolar antioxidants of enzymatic and non-enzymatic nature.
