Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper commonly known as blackgram is an important legume crop with good quality dietary proteins and vitamins. Low production of blackgram in the chromium rich soil of Odisha is a serious concern against its demand. Chromium (VI) was tested on V. mungo var. B3-8-8 at 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 µM concentration on growth, anti-oxidative enzymes and chromium content at 15, 30 and 45 d of treatments. Seed germination and growth decreased with increase dose and duration. Cr uptake induced oxidative burst with significant increase of osmolytes was observed in cell at lower doses but failed to adjust homeostasis at higher dose. Increase of GPX and SOD and decrease of CAT was observed as dose dependent. Increased protein content was detected in < 200 µM Cr concentration whereas, significant decrease of protein was noted thereafter. Down regulation of proteins (29.2 kDa and 32.6 kDa) was observed at > 250 µM of Cr. Total Cr uptake was greater in root than in shoot which might be due to poor translocation of heavy metal or detoxification. Age at menarche was studied by the recollection method in two groups of Causasian Jewish high school girls, inhabitants of two towns in Israel, Safad and Elat. The two towns differ mainly in climatic conditions. The age at menarche was found to be significantly lower (P<0.02) in the hot town of Elat than in the temperate town of Safad: 13.30±1.21 and 13.58±0.9 years, respectively (mean ±SD). A significant association was found between the age at menarche and the town in which the girls lived. Accordingly, in the hot town of Elat, the percentage of girls who had their first menstrual cycle by the age of 12 years and earlier, was more than double that of the girls in Safad (17.9% and 7.1%, respectively). It is concluded that the environmental temperature, with or without any possible interaction of humidity, is probably responsible for the tendency for an earlier onset of menarche in girls living in the hot town of Elat. 相似文献

A hallmark of the desert locust's ancient and deserved reputation as a devastating agricultural pest is that of the long-distance, multi-generational migration of locust swarms to new habitats. The bacterial symbionts that reside within the locust gut comprise a key aspect of its biology, augmenting its immunity and having also been reported to be involved in the swarming phenomenon through the emission of attractant volatiles. However, it is still unclear whether and how these beneficial symbionts are transmitted vertically from parent to offspring. Using comparative 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and direct experiments with engineered bacteria, we provide evidence for vertical transmission of locust gut bacteria. The females may perform this activity by way of inoculation of the egg-pod's foam plug, through which the larvae pass upon hatching. Furthermore, analysis of the composition of the foam revealed chitin to be its major component, along with immunity-related proteins such as lysozyme, which could be responsible for the inhibition of some bacteria in the foam while allowing other, more beneficial, strains to proliferate. Our findings reveal a potential vector for the transgenerational transmission of symbionts in locusts, which contributes to the locust swarm's ability to invade and survive in new territories. 相似文献

The motor protein, non-muscle myosin II (NMII), must undergo dynamic oligomerization into filaments to participate in cellular processes such as cell migration and cytokinesis. A small non-helical region at the tail of the long coiled-coil region (tailpiece) is a common feature of all dynamically assembling myosin II proteins. In this study, we investigated the role of the tailpiece in NMII-C self-assembly. We show that the tailpiece is natively unfolded, as seen by circular dichroism and NMR experiments, and is divided into two regions of opposite charge. The positively charged region (Tailpiece1946–1967) starts at residue 1946 and is extended by seven amino acids at its N terminus from the traditional coiled-coil ending proline (Tailpiece1953–1967). Pull-down and sedimentation assays showed that the positive Tailpiece1946–1967 binds to assembly incompetent NMII-C fragments inducing filament assembly. The negative region, residues 1968–2000, is responsible for NMII paracrystal morphology as determined by chimeras in which the negative region was swapped between the NMII isoforms. Mixing the positive and negative peptides had no effect on the ability of the positive peptide to bind and induce filament assembly. This study provides molecular insight into the role of the structurally disordered tailpiece of NMII-C in shifting the oligomeric equilibrium of NMII-C toward filament assembly and determining its morphology. 相似文献

The construct General Sleep-related Experiences (GSEs, such as elevated dream recall, vivid or bizarre dreams, flying dreams, hypnagogic hallucinations, nightmares, and recurrent dreams) has been previously linked to various forms of psychopathology in nonclinical populations. The aim of this pilot study was to explore this relationship in the context of severe psychopathology. Nineteen outpatients of a mental health clinic were compared to 26 controls on sleep experiences, psychopathology, sleep quality, life stress, and transliminality. Outpatients also reported illness intrusiveness levels. As expected, the outpatient group had elevated GSEs. Within the outpatient group, illness intrusiveness, stress, and transliminality were correlated with GSEs.
